There is no way YOU can defend those throws... ...Mifune is in a whole another level.
@loudenvier17 жыл бұрын
You are right to some extent. The attacker on this video didn't twist the body to the right nor used his arms to throw Mifune. He simply did a Hane Goshi and lifted Mifune up. He could have done a Makikomi too and Mifune could not have defended. But surely Minufe knew the limitations of his oponent and let him try to do that, so he could defend easily. The defense against Ippon Seioi, on the other hand is perfectly effective even against rolling (makikomi) attacks.

I have studied Judo for many years. And I am very familiar with Mifune. Look as his opponent while Mifune is in the air. Mifune uses his own weight to offset the throw. If you look (and pause), you can see that the opponent is unable to twist his body and complete the technique. This is very possible, as I have done it multiple times in competition and practice.

Have a person hug you from behind, tightly around the waist, now try to make the person rotate around your body... His grasp has to loosen or slip. When Mifune is lifted with the 1st throw he hugs or hand blocks and drops his weight (in the legs)

He also partially catches the opponents lifting leg from the inside with his own leg

All that is missing from the 1st throw (Hane goshi perhaps) is rotating Mifune over the hip... Mifune stays tight to the back, also his left hand may post on the front of his opponents hip blocking the rotation, but it is hard to see (try pausing)

Just watched them, and you could argue that something like butterfly was in there. HOwever the other ones I mentioned weren't and not even by a longshot. All the influence came from judo, however if you take into consideration the very short amount of time that carlos trained in judo, you will understand that it isn't possible for him to have learned all judo moves. You should also realize that it is possible for more than one person to invent the wheel, simply out of necessity.

@LardInATubeSock I've trained with a guy who was 70 and he kicked my ass. I thought I had him when i picked him up. He floated around and tossed me on my ass. After that I knew he was serious. Every time I tried a throw, and I didn't hold back, he would counter and destroy my ass. This man was Gene LeBell. Mifune was the greatest technician after Kano. I don't doubt he would have the same skills.

This is what Judo should be like, "the gentle way", using techniques to beat sheer bull strength opponent of bigger size than you are. He is demonstrating the essence of traditional martial art where it isn't about sheer strength or weight class bla bla like they solely focus on in modern times US (or the West), good techniques can be utilized by the weaker side, Good martial art should be about fighting with your brain, not size.
@superhadoman17 жыл бұрын
Unlike average judo practitioners, do you notice that his reaction is very quick and fast? Also notice that his opponent was not able to do the "kuzushi" successfully. It's really important when you offset and neutralize a throw. Not letting the opponent use the leverage is what he's doing in this clip. You know, even when you throw your opponent, you won't be successful if you don't have 1) kuzushi and 2) enough leverage (pulling and pushing).

@youngdones There is no set number of years to "master" any real martial art. No one ever masters judo, and I am pretty sure this is the same for Aikido, BJJ, and all of the other soft arts. This includes Karate, even though to the uninitiated it looks like a hard art. I don't know anything about non-japanese arts. Your second question: some things are hard some things are easy. I am sure it is no more difficult than any other serious, full contact martial art.

99%? Not even close. Bjj has changed itself in many ways in the last 10 years as it has been influenced by many other styles. There has also been many newer guards and styles that have sprung up.
