This is why it can be tough to do custom jewelry sometimes. Been in a few situations like that and it can go so many ways. End of day you don't wanna get robbed or jumped 3 weeks later and end up in a shootout over a chain. I've sat on thousands of dollars of work that was never picked up because people went to jail, got shot, or just plain dissapeared for years then came back randomly like they weren't gone for 2 years to pick up their stuff...and it's like bro wtf. Dudes be like sorry bro they got me doing a run, or they raided me or I even had one customer that was deported lol. Some items we saved but others items it was just too long and we melted or resold and it is what it is. Stuff like that can ruin a small business

I am just now seeing this incident. I am a fan of TRAXNYC. And I have had many of my own custom jewelry pieces made by a local jeweler I have known and trusted for like 2 decades. So I see all sides of this issue. Trax made the mistake of not getting his money upfront. And then made another mistake of trying to recoup his money into the piece (by giving the piece to Kodak and figuring that for major promotion by Kodak and probably for future business from Kodak as well), when that design is intellectual property of someone else’s. As a businessman, I understand his frustration. But he cannot use someone else’s intellectual property to try and recoup his lost money. As a veteran businessman, Trax knows this and he should have just taken this small financial hit for making the mistakes of not getting paid in full or at least half before the piece was made. Now his image got hit (besides the financial hit) by ruining his relationship with Kodak over a relatively small piece. Sometimes as businessmen, we have to recognize our own mistakes and take the small L to keep our reputation intact. And consider it a lesson learned to get paid in full from people you haven’t worked with before. Especially when they are independent artists like this other dude. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ For what’s it worth, none of my pieces were super huge money. But I DID pay for them all IN FULL before my jeweler made them for me or released them to me. Experience probably taught him to do that. 🤷‍♂️💯 I hope to own a Trax piece one of these days. 💯🔥💯🔥💯🔥

That is a pretty good analysis of the situation. I think Max can do better for himself by working up a solid stash of money over time to fund customs in such a way as to have a contract with clients for 1-2 years where if they come in and want a custom done, then Trax will work with them for up to 1-2 years before they have the exclusive rights to that intellectual property and thus if it’s not paid off in full within that period of time or not picked up, then it becomes theirs to do whatever they want with it, and aside from that this stash of money will be able to fund those pieces that take a longer time or where the person disappears for a while such that it doesn’t eat into Max’s core business or ability to pay for his daily dealings… it will just be something like a cherry on top so he never has to worry about getting rid of pieces that collect dust (so he doesn’t have his regular business “money tied up in it”). Aside from that, unless he simply decided to knowingly screw Billy over to do business instead with Kodak for the PR (and no PR is bad PR except for some bad PR 😂), then that is a bit of a different story.

Trax is the real deal. Real aggression and no bulletin. Just straight business and manliness.

I'm so happy he released this. Billy thought he was gonna go and strong arm my boy and got made to look weak 💪🏿

Love the series!!! Gives a deep look into the world you live in. I've never purchased a chain or project that expensive, but I would expect that I would have to pay for it in its entirety. I would expect that if I don't do it the jeweler can do whatever he wants. I also don't understand how someone can't finish paying for the chain if you're in a position to have such a chain made. Seems like he could still make some major profits from the trickle effect and be happy the world sees the Gremlin.

I know I'm late to the game but some people would probably tell HK to sue TRAX. I feel like that would be a waste of time, energy, and money if they both can compromise. HK can get a 2-7% on the sale and recognition on the design plus free publicity for his own business and TRAX can hook him up on another peice at a slight discount and walk away with a lesson learned.... or just make them sign some document stating that they are allowing you to use the design as see fit for "production" purposes which could give you the rights to the design to be sold on jewelery so that way if this happens again you could at least try to sell it and not get sued... if they actually own the design.

Cash is king if he wanted the chain that much he would of paid for the peice sooner than two weeks before Trax did everything by the book

Customs are almost never an investment. It's a loss of money if you try to melt it down. usually you paying for the material and the work they do. Then when you sell it it's just being bought for the material

Well done for standing your ground at the sit down! if Kodak hadn't of got that pendant and bought so much media attention round it, I bet Billy would've left it at the design stage for a few more months, the only leg he has to stand on is if he gave the OK to the design, if so it was time pay up....and move onto the next phase!

When you put something on layaway in Walmart or some other store, if you don’t pay in time, someone else buys it. If he wanted his trademark to hit for him, he should have waited and paid. Business doesn’t have feelings, unfortunately 🤷🏽‍♂️

I been buying jewelry for over 20 years. If my jeweler gave my custom piece away 3 months after I commissioned it, he woulda had to pay but Billy is getting good promo for their mistake tbh. I never heard of em till today tbh.
