Although your video was not intended for this, it proved to be very helpful for resolving the "Projector always reverses" issue. (Troubleshooting Symptom 5.5 in "Servicing the Kodak Carousel Projector" Sept. 1971) My projector suffered from "Bind between direction lever and mechanism frame." Although the direction lever moved, I could tell from your video that my lever's movement was limited. I reached in with my hook tool and lifted the lever's flange. The lever gave a small pop and moves freely now. The projector advances and reverses just fine. Thanks Curt!!

Carburetor cleaner then a little light oil on the brass bearing pivot point worked like a charm. Thanks for the tip, Curt :-)

Thanks for the timely video. My old slides got a new lease on life after I Q-tipped a bit of rubbing alcohol on the two places you mentioned.

Hi Curt, I have an 850H that we recently purchased to look over some old family photos. The projector continually advances, without any input. When I plug it in, and turn it to either the fan, low, or high positions, it advances through slides at a very fast rate without allowing for actual viewing of the photos. The lever assembly is not gunked up and works perfectly. The only issue is that it doesn’t stop moving! Thanks!

Greetings! Thanks to your video, I fixed my projector in about ten minutes total. I sprayed VCR head cleaner on the internal gear and it freed up instantly. The tray was advancing whether I pressed the forward or the reverse button. Great video.

What model did you have? You say it just kept advancing over and over again without stopping, or are you saying it advanced forward even if you hit the reverse button? That appears to be the experience a customer of mine is having. It was fine before I sent it, I tested it at least a dozen times, but I don't know if something got jostled or some dirt got moved around during transit, but now it appears that it's advancing forever without stopping.

@@kritsadventures Sorry for late reply! I just noticed your posting. I believe the projector was a 650H and the issue was that the projector advanced the carousel when the Reverse button was depressed. According to my consulting the above video and available online repair instructions, I suggest that you investigate the condition of the Clutch Spring that is part of the Cam Stack. The spring may be broken or bent. But, Curt is the expert! Best of luck!

Greetings again! I now have an Ektagraphic AF-1 projector with multiple issues: (a) the projector goes forward upon pressing the Forward button but the picture comes on for a second as the shutter closes immediately; (b) the projector goes forward when the Reverse button is pressed and again the picture comes on for a second as the shutter closes immediately; (c) the Select button does not go down all the way and has no effects; and, at times, the slide lever gets stuck as it raises a slide out of the slot. I adjusted the height of the solenoid over its range with no trigger of the reverse function and I believe I cleaned (again with VCR head cleaner) every levers that I saw including the Directional Lever Assembly (the lever seems to work fine as you demonstrate in the above video). I studied carefully your repair manual regarding the solenoid as well as the September 1971 Kodak Carousel Projectors repair manual that is available online to understand the sequence of operations (critical page 9, however, is missing!). Would you have suggestions for investigation? I much appreciate your time devoted to the repair of projectors. Many thanks, JP

Eureka - I found the solution to all the issues with my projector! I only had to lubricate the Cam Stack Clutch Spring with WD-40 (or equivalent since I used VCR head cleaner). The head cleaner loosened the old grease that is lodged in cam.

Curt, I just installed the new parts kit on my 750H. The solenoid is now working, the slides will advance, but the slides will not reverse. My directional lever assembly is not gummed up - it is free to move. Although I have my solenoid plate mounted at its original elevation I suspect it is not at the proper elevation to provide reverse operation. It is situated fully downward, closer to the bottom of the projector in its normal operating stance on a table top. Do I need to raise the solenoid plate to correct? How do I test for this to verify a revised elevation without fully reassembling the projector (each time) after I have made an adjustment? Many thanks. Your videos are most helpful.

Hi Curt, This is exactly my problem. The lever does not move freely. What would be the best way to clean it? I have spray cans of electrical contact cleaner, automotive MAF sensor cleaner, carburetor cleaner... Is there a particular product or technique you recommend for cleaning? Thanks to your excellent video, my old 760H is about to come to life again :-)

Mr Fargo. I just acquired a 650H. I know nothing about these but I have decent mechanical/troubleshooting skills. So mine does not advance in either direction. The person that gave it to me said it might be the solenoid link. I've inspected it and it seems intact. I've also lubed the parts mentioned here. The solenoid intermittently clicks when pushing either the fwd or rev. I've loosened the adjustment screw and have tried that. No change. So, I'm thinking the signal that's getting to the solenoid is intermittent or the solenoid itself has a bad magnet. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

Hi, I have a Wards 70's Q888 that I recently found a bulb for on eBay. It's not projecting out the front lens. Do you know what the problem might be? I can't find anybody in Montana that works on them. Thank you.
