Kodak 8mm Film Projector model Brownie A-15

A long time ago people had to make movies of their families with movie film and this was a projector that they used to watch those movies on.

Great video, just what needed! I just got my parents old Brownie A-15 but not a clue about how to use it. This video showed me everything I needed to know, thanks :)

Back in 2002, I bought a Kodak Brownie Movie Camera and projector. Bought a soviet Lomo processing tank and taught myself how to process B&W 8mm reversal. Used Fomapan B&W Reveral film. It was a fun yet expensive hobby! The film turned out spectacular. I have several reels of my kids when they were toddlers. I need to get it transferred to a digital medium as I sold my camera, projector and processing equipment years ago and haven't been able to watch the film since. The Kodak Brownies, made for novice, entry-level users, sure did make some fine pictures. I was impressed with the results.

As a lark, I did nearly the same thing with regular 8 color Kodak film in 2005, when Kodachrome could still be purchased and developed at a few places (Dwayne's Photo in KS). The last chance to film with the nice Bolex my grandfather used.

I have an older version of this that is Standard 8 film. It is over 60 years old and still works.

The cool thing is that you can still shoot 8mm today thanks to a company called “Film Photography Project” who takes raw Kodak film stock and perforates them into the Double 8 format so you can feed new film in these old projectors

I recently used FFP for the first time and they are really good! Over this past summer I shot a cartridge of Kodak 200T super 8mm on an old Chinon XL 555 Macro for the first time and it came out excellent!

I think the film may have been from the '70s, because all of them we had from the '50s and '60s did not have the blue plastic container for the reels, they just sent them back in a little yellow cardboard box with a special rubber band around the film.

The white reels with blue plastic covers were used at least as early as 1968-69, as my parents filmed some double 8 at that time that came back like this.

Hi, I can't believe it. That was my projector from when I was a kid. The truth, they had lent us for having a superior one. We watched all the family movies there. One day, they asked us for it ... and we had to return it to its owner. A pity, the film reels, I have taken them to a place where they passed them to VHS. There they passed it as Super 8, or maybe 16 mm. What the needle, which held the frames per second, pierced and ruined the entire tape. So they gave it to me. The next day, I went to claim. And they told me the boy who did the work will be tomorrow and he will solve it for you. The next day I went and everything was closed. They had left my city. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina. ✊✌💪🐧👍🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷

Nice projector. I also have my Kodak Super Showtime 8 movie projector and it's also 8mm. This one I don't have, but the Super Showtime 8 can also run 8mm films up to 400 ft. and it came with a 7" reel. It's all metal base. It will not run Super 8 movie, because Super 8 did not come out until 1964 or 1965.

No! You shoot 25 feet first then the 2nd time thru you'd expose the 2nd side of the 25 feet. after processsing you would have 50 feet. Of course if you ran the film thru a 3rd or 4th time you would have double exposed your film (Ive done this one time---bad results). Ex-Kodak Employee, so I know!

Is anyone else here to try and fix there Brownie 8mm projector? Currently I’ve managed to half resolve my stuck switch, now there’s a problem with the loading mechanism (I.e. what he does at 5:32). Any tips or knowledge I could use would be greatly appropriated

After half fixing my switch, soldering some disconnected wires, and painfully reconnecting the rubber belt, I also had trouble feeding the film sprocket holes into the projector. They will not catch no matter what! Burned a few holes into my film in the process!

databits I just asked my question out of curiosity. That's all. I LOVE the old film projectors, or the old film video cameras for that matter. I can't afford to buy any right now, but I would someday like to find some & buy those things, as well as the appropriate reel of blank film to record/playback. I think I might prefer Super 8mm film. It looks great from the videos of it that I've seen, and the reviews that I've read. It's also the kind of film that was shown in some of the scenes in Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird: The Movie". Great stuff!

I don't think people sell the bulbs on this specific one so my suggestion is you get a really bright flashlight and you tape it where the lightbulb used to be then whenever you're ready to project just turn on the flashlight. Plus even if they do sell them one lite bulb they will be $110 and they only lasts 11 hours.
