Keep in mind while you might not be able to just throw up cantina wire in your yard. You absolutely can have a nice chain link fence and then have blackberry bushes(full of thorns) for food/natural spikey vines and beehives in the yard. Neighbors will not only appreciate free berries and honey but might even start some gardening and apiary work of there own. And if you already do a fair amount of backyard gardening nodbody bats an eye at having further fencing or chicken wire to keep pesky deer and rabbits from eating the food you share with your family and community. Always remember that even a well placed garden can both feed and add some extra perimeter defense for the yard.

If we're talking about gardening obstacles, those wire tomato plant protectors properly placed are invisible in low light or when moving at speed, they stack nice for storage, could be incorporated into a tin can alarm setup and will trip up and slow down infiltrators.

Another point about stringing razor wire or an obvious obstacle up around the house: In the context of civil unrest it might actually just draw more attention to your house. A mob in an adversarial mindset and out for trouble will just see a target. You also lose a kind of element of surprise that way too.

@@lastdaysarehere7133 One would imagine so. You are not wrong for thinking it. It's a consideration for sure. The benefits can outweigh the risks. All of that brush dead trees/limbs... ...it's free materials. Proper clearing {combined with creative recycling of that material} will yield obstacles and aid in confusing a foe. Just because a thing "looks solid"; doesn't mean it is. Natural obstacles ,like holes and animal dens, make for ankle breaking mistakes. Briars, and brambles can make an effective physical barrier. Noise is more pronounced in the relative quiet of the countryside. Sound carries differently as well. A loud whisper might be audible for 50 yards in the right conditions.* Gunshots carry for miles. Gunfire is a regular sound. Gunfire and a gunfight are separate things. They are distinct. Certain times of day or night might draw more attention. Then there is the neighbor factor. One might be forced to take other structures/positions before dealing with you. They may not expect a response from surrounding homes....they'd get one. Day or night there are the living natural hazards Tree limbs, snakes, deer, bear, mountain lions.....fucking skunks. NIGHT is a different deal. It's not a place to allow one's thoughts to wander. Even with advanced equipment it can be an unsettling ,and daunting, place. If it is raining you are deaf. If snowing you are blind. Both make you cold and wet. You can work your opponent (psychologically) in a way that stands apart from Urban and Suburban environments. *Sometimes further. Reflective surfaces bounce sound. That can amplify it. If you are on a porch having a conversation; it will be clear (as a bell) for a few hundred yards.

Great video! I'd like to add something. If possible: Create false cover and concealment. An adversary will seek advantage. [If you offer an "obvious" FP, they may take it.] Construction, alignment/orientation and location can be used to nullify any useful attributes. For example: A lightly maintained screen of vegetation would appear to be a fine hiding spot. To the defender; the sudden appearance of an odd shaped lump behind it would draw attention. Cover that is only good from one direction is another method. [Imagine a sharp decline towards a road] At the top there is a meter high picket fence. You have reinforced the lower half and left the upper half as is. Anyone trying to use it as concealment will be forced to stand to look over it. Only the lower portion provides cover. You could fight/observe from there, while the enemy is drawn to aim above you.

As to useful criticism; A sharp decline towards a road would be like a hill crest, useful for both sides from the ground floor, same as flat terrain from the first floor. A meter high picket fence thats has the lower 50 cm reinforced and boarded up on the holes still allows looking over it while prone, and is no different then a normal one when crouched.

@@kevind.k7512 I don't see that as a "criticism" at all. This is just conversation. Preparatory actions can take any number of paths. Psychological warfare is an important component. Drawing a foe into a rage is an old tactic. It makes them clumsy. They get blinded by emotion. If you set things up to take FULL advantage of the ground and resources; failure is all they can achieve. [I'd elaborate and give examples. Unfortunately, my cold meds are getting to me.]

I thought similar when I saw a map around Orlando of the various walmarts. Almost looked like a ring around the north east of the city. Not to mention they are built with concrete block, up to about 10 feet. About the same height as army mobile barricades for bases that are filled with dirt. Along with what looks like great firing cover at the roof line.

Just like to bring up that it's important to have both a bug-out bag and shelter-in-place supplies prepared for such events. Most situations will require sheltering, at least in the initial stages, but in the event that you need to egress or evacuating initially winds up being the move, bug-out bags and kits allow you to use whatever means of transportation you need, including on-foot as mentioned in the video. It's a lot to stock up on and manage and perfect, so it's important to build these things over time as soon as you can start so you're not caught with your ass cheeks out when you do need it.

My favorite option for marking key terrain and checkpoints on a map is to use a deck of tarot cards, and a regular card deck, if there are an excessive number of points. A regular deck of cards has 52 unique cards, plus two jokers, max; a classic "Rider-Waite" tarot deck has 78 unique cards, all of which are different from the regular deck. If you rename the taro suites 'swords' to 'knives', and 'cups' to 'rods', you can use a two-letter/number (or use the actual card name, e.g., _"3 of Clubs"_ or _"Knight of Knives",_ etc.) code to refer to every point on your map. Given that you are working with 130-132 potential points (and you will not need them all, unless you are directing a battalion), that's a perfect quick reference that is only known to your group, and that can be quickly changed for a new location, if needed. Hope that helps. *NB:* If you get up in arms at the thought of using "divination tools of SATAN" for a practical purpose, you also believe that your weapons are alive and whispering to you while you sleep. Grow up, and get help.

im an old man, and know it is best to design your home base with defense/offense in mind before you purchase your property. then incorporate cameras (wired) to cover any blind spots (maybe create blind spots for the adversary intelligence to find and use) also think of cover they might use to their advantage. if there is none, then maybe you should create some over for them to feel secure in using. a remote controlled 22 semi automatic rifle with camera on the scope could be concealed to keep adversary pinned down. an air propelled device with an electrically operated valve could spray a flammable liquid to soak anyone hiding behind cover. a flame might be included if desired. the sight and screams of your comm rads burning alive affect moral greatly especially if you are NOT able to provide assistance. busted up television picture tubes will shred anything that comes into contact with the pieces and the cuts hurt like hell. as someone that has broken hundreds of these i know from personal experience. since intelligence can spot funnels that could be used to create an ambush, it is easy to create these funnels so the adversary will avoid them and choose a route that might just be a trap. it is easy to dig a hole that will swallow up a armored vehicle, cover it with a roof that will not hold the weight and then grow grass on top. with good planning you can take just about any house in any city and dig escape tunnels without worry of hitting things you shouldn't hit, or a telephone pole falling on your head. if there was a total political situation that needed to be toppled there is always sabotage to use as a tool. the older i get, the less LIFE IN PRISON is a deterrent!

I suggest adding a "Human Terrain" overlay (KOCOA-H?). I also suggest modifying your Terrain Analysis to account for more likely scenarios. ie Storms/Flooding, Neighborhood Search & Rescue, and Criminal Activity Unlike the other features, Human Terrain is dynamic and would need to be updated more often. Some, like, Tactical Allies, may fall under Operations but other features do not. Which locations/neighbors would support you/hostiles is not as simple as it is in the Battlespace (Actionspace?). Or which ones may be in need of assitance/rescue? Relationship may change based on the nature of The Event. ex. In my rural-ish community, I have a block of neighbors who were supportive after a hurricane and harbored unfriendly actors during the 2020 Insurrection/Riots. In the other direction, direction are 2-5 neighbors at any given time who "wander" due to Dementia. And just a few weeks ago, week a jailbird on the loose. This is a critical overlay that would make for a good, future S2 Underground episode.

Obviously when SHTF it's not going to subjectively matter as much, but in the preparation for such events it would certainly be wise to consider the regulations that apply to your property (if you live in a city/ metro area moreso) and even worse if you're in an HOA-zone. Can get fined into oblivion if you don't play their games unfortunately so it must be done with tact and care to not draw attention. Out in the sticks, fair game-- get them HESCO's set up, get you some heavy duty barbed wire in concentric setup, get your tripline flare alert system in place, etc.. Just keep all of the points and nuances of what they're detailing here in mind and practice so you don't leave room for an out.

Many people in my state have guns and highly capable off road vehichles to get around the pretty common rugged terrain that is my area. The example map looks pretty suburban to me, single-family homes are quite uncommon in actual urban areas. It’d be interesting to hear how tactics shift for apartment dwellers. Either way though, the single most important thing you can do is be a part of your community. Unlike a fortified bunker, a support network and good relations with your neighbors are just as helpful in peacetime as they are in crisis - not to mention how vital those connections are for recovery efforts, as almost anyone who’s lived through a natural disaster can tell you. We’re all stronger and more resilient together.

Can you give us a list or make a video about books on this and other contents of your channel. Mainly about hiding from drones, home defense and sabotage. I want to keep this info even without internet, anyway great job this is an amazing channel especially in those crazy days.
