Kobe Bryant
Hidden Gem Full Highlights (Rare)
LA Lakers vs Memphis Grizzlies
November 29, 2002
Pyramid Arena
- 45 pts, 6r, 5a, 2s / 18-35 fg, 2-4 3pt, 7-9 ft
(Game 17 of 82)
Another nasty showcase from ‘03 Kobe; even with Shaq back in the lineup, there was no letup. The season’s first 12 games (Shaq injured) saw Kobe put up 29.4p, 8.8r, and 6.2a. But as was noted under the Concord 11 game, the Lakers were struggling to find solid role playing around the superstar. Shaq’s toe injury, along with the aging/decline of supporting players contributed to the team’s unforeseen and lottery destined 11-19 start thru 30 games. It’s important to address the Western Conference’s other elite teams such as San Antonio, Sacramento, Dallas and Minnesota all making a tremendous effort to catch up, to get better, intent on dethroning the Lakers’ dynasty.
The 2002-03 team was the most top-heavy squad of any in their 5 season Phil Jackson era. The Kobe-Shaq dynamic peaked in terms of production. 2 superstars, 1 of which arguably the league’s best perimeter player, the other a reigning 3x Finals MVP, both tasked with carrying the weight of scoring nearly 30+ ppg each for wins to pile up. Kobe’s heightened play, paired with an ‘exiting his prime but still capable of tapping into it’ Shaquille O’Neal, resulted in 2 players averaging a combined 57.5 points. It was a daily collaboration, a nightly demonstration of unparalleled talent from the league’s best duo. After the 11-19 start, the next 52 games went like this:
Lakers 39-13 record:
Kobe (52 g) - 31.9p, 6.4r, 5.2a, 2.3s on 46-40-86 (%)
Shaq (49 g) - 28.0p, 11.1r, 3.3a, 2.5b on 58-64 (%)
-
Rare - few or no known highlights of player/game on KZread at time of publishing.

Cuz of vids like this, I'm now starting to prefer 03 kobe over the typically proclaimed 06 prime kobe.

Same. Ive started to feel like ‘06 was more about volume because of the lack of supporting players. Shot attempts went way up, and so did the points. But in no way does take away from the absurdity that 35.4 in that era was.

Agreed! He had packed on about 15lbs of muscle that year, due to not only weights, but dude was doing kickboxing drills during The Summer of 02. He had the perfect combination of strength, speed, athleticism, and the skills were coming together. Definitely my all time favorite version of Kobe.

03 Kobe is maybe the best version of bean we have seen! If he had the supporting cast he had later in his other laker mini dynasty run, this Kobe would have easily been more in this 🐐 conversation more. Picture a young pau running the lanes with Kobe 🔥🔥

That *360* dunk he made at the end is a rare highlight of Kobe, imo. He just ignored the guard dunking on and all around him. It is unbelievable when you think about the skills, athleticism and confidence involved.

I just appreciate that ‘03 Kobe really dunked the ball with so much force and power. But still graceful at the same time. Haha @2:25, he dunked it so hard even buddy on the bench felt it!!! He was like OHHHHHHHHHH 😱😱😱😱

Been waiting to see this back up!! One of my favorite Kobe games from the 02-03 season. And your description is great. Completing the 4-peat against that field of challengers would've made the Kobe-Shaq dynasty even more remarkable. If only Horry's 3 in that game 5 against the Spurs went down...

  • @elliotgreen2481

Facts. But I still take the Shaq-less back to back titles, over the 4 peat. I deep down think that woulda been better for his legacy having those 2 titles

  • @Sheboygan.

@@elliotgreen2481 I feel you on that. Those titles mean the most to me as a Kobe fan due to all of the illogical slack he gets for being Shaq's teammate. But Kobe's 02-03 season was too great to not end with a championship.

Lol dude dont remind me.. horry’s 3 rimming out is so sad, especially because of how they lost the next game at staples. Not sure whats worse horry’s 3 or tim thomas’ in 2006 g6.

@@dcshow sheesh... those are both heartbreakers. I'd say Horry's is worse because I'm convinced the Lakers would've went all the way if that shot goes down. I have much less faith in what LA would've gotten out of Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm and them in 06 lol.

Thanks, for a great game Kobe and thank you, Dom Carter, for sharing these Kobe's babies with us, we appreciate them so very much. Thank you God for blessing Kobe, Shaq, and the Lakers to win, so happy. Now I have a warm and fuzzy feeling inside. I just love it when Kobe and the Lakers win, just love it.
