KOBALT 24-Volt Right Angle Impact Wrench Review [KRAIW 124B-03]

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Kobalt 24-volt Brushless right angle 3/8" impact wrench is the perfect solution for those tight areas. At least 180 ft-lbs of torque on tap through the 3/8" anvil.

its ability to break free nuts and bolt at 300 ft-lbs of torque is amazing for a battery powered tool this size. this is a must have tool for backyard mechanics especially if you do your own exhaust and brake jobs. Great review. The audio and video quality is A+.

Agree 100%! This tool is great for what it is. An alternative for this is the DeWalt DCF850 with the 3/8 anvil swapped in. Better performance and smaller size! Have a couple videos of it on my channel 😎

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzread.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I have a set of Kobalt cordless tools. I got them on a Black Friday sale. I love them. Way less expensive than Dewalt or Milwaukee brand tools, but (for my purposes, just working around the house and an occasional project here or there) they're great. I paid $250 for a set of 5 tools, two batteries and a charger. They look great too. I like the blue and black color pallet.

i don't know if you take vibration into consideration as well. I use impact wrenches for deck projects and one of the things I pay a lot of attention is the vibration of the tool. Probably not so much for people that do mechanics, but driving general lag screws while the tool is vibrating can really fatigue you overtime. So far....Milwaukee is the only brand I know that has minimal vibration with their impact wrenches and then there is Kobalt......unfortunately Makita and Ridgid not so good on that department.

wow thats a cool tool. Will it allow you to manually loosen something like a impact wrench? I got the m12 Milwaukee impact wrench, and I barely ever use a standard wrench anymore. They don't have a lot of break away torque but once you manually break it free, then they are so much faster to loosen and tighten things. If this thing has a lot more torque than those, this could be great for bigger bolts like brake calipers and stuff.

@Bailey Hatfield I take it, that you don’t know what a skidmore wilhelm is. It test actual fastening torque. And it’s the most accurate method of doing so. Anyways on that test the Milwaukee angle impact wrench put 107 ft lbs of fastening torque. Granted it did use a bigger nut so that might be a factor. (But doubt it as the nut is still smaller than the impact mechanism.)

@@Shoptoolreviews I picked up the Kobalt right angle impact yesterday. I’m now thinking of returning the gen 2 Milwaukee 1/2” mid torque I just bought for the Kobalt 24 volt xtr 1/2” rated at 1200 ft lbs since I’m already on the xtr platform. More torque with 24 volts, batteries cost less. I will probably buy the Milwaukee gen 3 compact impact 1/2” since it’s the same size as the m12 stubbie impact. What you think?

I know this is a year later and prolly won't get read by the creator, but why was such a big bolt and nut needed for the tests? You lose power with adapters, extensions, swivels, and whatever else you put between the tool and socket. I wonder if the tool has enough power to break that 325 free in less than 10 seconds, and struggle with but maybe get the 350. Regardless, I love kobalt and am always impressed with their tools. I find they like to underrate the power of their tools alot. I kinda wonder if that's the power you can get when about out of battery, and more with a full battery.

@@Shoptoolreviews I guess the reason they just rated it at 180 ft lb because it seems to start struggling at around 200. I don't know if you ever pay attention to Lowes' customer feedback, but their customers love to nitpick at every little thing. A negative review is more apparent at Lowes than Home Depot only because there are far less reviews from people that really care to give feedback as opposed to thousands of reviews at Home Depot. Don't know if that has anything with them underrating their specs, but if it overperforms the claims then they figure people would stop complaining it can't.

$500 with one 4ah battery and a charger shipped here in Canada because we get gouged. Think I might still pull the trigger. Have some dewalt stuff I'm going to try to sell as a package for $4-500 and then maybe I'll get this thing. Need something to zap off semi truck u joints. Have a high torque 1/2 inch dewalt but it just won't do it from torque loss through driveline socket that is about 4" long. If this kobalt will fit in between the yokes I'm buying it. Sick of laying in the snow on the side of the road next to my $330 dewalt with a Johnson bar on the u-joint cursing

Do most of these companies overrate their tools and kobalt does the opposite? I have a makita that is rated for like 400 ft pounds and struggles removing lug nuts on my car. Also I see the advantage of a right angle but for the weight and length of this tool I would still expect more power. What is the ideal purpose for this tool?

  • @Shoptoolreviews

    @Shoptoolreviews

    3 жыл бұрын

No, it doesn't. To be honest, this is why there SHOULD be standards for measuring torque for impact wrenches, but there is not. When tool companies claim "300 ft-lbs of breakaway torque", they mean that a bolt can be tightened to 300 ft-lbs and their impact can break it free. Thanks for watching.

  • @Shoptoolreviews

If you watch and listen to our videos, then we explain this. We tested the Milwaukee M12 right angle with the 2Ah M12 battery because that is what the tool comes with if you buy the kit. The Kobalt does not come as a kit, so we had our choice of batteries. This was a 4Ah Kobalt 24V battery (Not 5Ah). We try to be very fair with our testing and provide tests with tools as our viewers may purchase and use them. We will have a follow-up video showing the M12 with a larger capacity battery.
