Thank you Ray for fixing the Rav4 I greatly appreciate the job that you did. It was Fantastic now no more noise and the steering is much tighter now every one is Happy.
Hey Ray, great video. You were right about that rack. It was pretty easy compared to some you've had to deal with. Cheers!
I guess I missed the part where Ray tightened the pinch bolt and zip-tied the rubber dust boot.

Another good mechanic-ing video Ray. Now you have Troy helping you, your shop can focus on the interesting things others are probably not prepared to put the necessary time to. It should be future-proof as battery cars sneakily try to displace the ones with real engines from the roads. and people like you know bow to keep them going and going.
REEEEEEEEEE....from the guy whjo preaches "never tighten them up b4 they r ALL in!" lol
I hope you realize the positive impact you have on many lives. There are a great number of families now that can’t afford new vehicles as of now. Keep on keeping on Rainman!

Ray, those cotter pins are split pins, here in the UK🇬🇧. Cotter pins are the wedge shaped bolts that fix pedle shanks to pedle cranks on push bikes😉😉👍😊🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Ray, this is the first time I am commenting, I have been watching your videos from the beginning and just love them. I am retired now as 30 year plumbing contractor from O'Fallon Illinois. You will do good on your own. Thanks for the videos 😊
Mate you have the best attitude. Love your work and your stile and let's not forget your videos. You rock.
Very much enjoy your videos. Amazing camerawork, Well lit, Fantastic Banter. Love it! When a bolt or pin won't go in after a few minutes (i.e. at 24 to 28 min), using a phone camera or boroscope to look into hole / nut to see bolt/pin alignment as you wiggle it is often well and truly worth the effort. The 'don't fully tighten any bolts until all bolts are started' principle (28 min) is a lesson I have to relearn every few years.
the mounts’ center bolt has to go in first any little twist will keep it from threading through to the fixed nut. great job with the task and video. rubber boots are always such a difficult to get things lined up. it is always easier to take apart then put back together you did a great job setting the tie rod ends length . can not wait for you to have a wheel alignment equipment in house! remember you have a great day!
@jamram9924

Ray has done this several times before when he worked at the other shop......🤦🏻♂ If he left the mount loose after beginning the vertical bolts, then inserting the center bolt would've been so much easier. He's not focused on finishing that he looses sight. It happens to so many technicians.
Thank you for displaying a sense of value for the properly spoken language..
Rolling around in the dirt thanks Ray ❤
Great job ray. I really like watching ur videos have for a very long time now. And congrats on ur success keep up the hard work bud
I once changed the power steering rack on my father in laws Buick Century. I did it on the ground with hydraulic jack assist. Took me 5.5 hrs. to do it, a professional mechanic can do it in less than a hour or he's losing money. Of course they have a lift, but still this is a Mother of a job. Raymond makes it look easy.
Thanks Ray
Yeah that was a good tutorial video, Blessings to your Family and shop🙏👍
Ah ha !! There it is the fabled comment about the illusive alignment rack. I remember you saying in an earlier video how costly such things were. Great to see the business has gotten to a point where you can entertain such ideas👍👍. Keep up the great work Ray loving the daily uploads. Cheers
Finally Someone else calling it a cotter key
i worked as a mechanic many years ago with no impact tools (air or battery) and no jack stands and not even a floor jack! no air comprssor nothing, only hand tools. you guys have a real shop with every tool you need. that is so much easier than when i was fixing stuff.
Excellent job Ray. 👏.
Excellent job as usual have a great weekend

Troy Unit seems to be a pretty cool guy.
New isnt always the same as good. Have a car that original exhaust lasted 13 years, aftermarket lasted 1 year 11 months, then the back muffler fell off due to rust. Insane.
Ray I absolutely love you content!!
Congrats on the half a million ray
Another job well done
V6 RAV4 powwa!! Also nice to see the control arms have a hole for subframe bolt access.
Don’t get to see Ray work on too many Toyotas. Thanks for another informative video.
Glad to see feeling better Ray.keep making it happen.

Another awesome steering gear replacement
Good video Ray!! Awesome!
You are good man Ray. I am surprised the RAV4 needed a rack so early. The steering on my 25yr old no rust Sienna 168k had a slight click 7yrs ago when I took possession 119k I have held it in check. 1st never change all the fluid in an old R&P The click will be worse and accelerate wear. I removed the power steering fluid from the reservoir, and refilled the tank with Lucas! I added 1/2 bottle of AT205 seal polymer to prevent future seal leaks. It's time to install new PS hoses, before rubber deterioration inside the hoses wrecks my rack.
WHATS GOIN ON!!!!!! ONE MORE TIME!!! most overheard song on this channel lol....

Ray, I enjoy your videos very much. I like the lightness of your mood, sense of humor and perspectives. I find myself saying out loud at times 'seriously?' when I am working on my own car. And, truthfully, I have learned a lot from you. That being said, has anyone ever told you that you sound like kermit the frog at times?
Congrats Ray and family
All right Ray.
Great show Ray the zip ties on the steering boot was the only thing I didn't see, I suppose it doesn't matter because they weren't on before. But knowing you they were done.
Have a great day Ray. I did, I bought a big load of Mopar parts today
great job ray1
Even "easy" jobs are a bear. Another great job Ray
Just pulled the injectors on my Cummins and waiting for the new ones to show up so I'm watching the Ray.
Must be a common issue. Our 2008 Rav4 has had a steering knock since 150K miles. I replaced the tie rod ends and checked for play in the steering linkage to the rack, it must be the rack, good to see this is pretty easy to do on this vehicle. Thanks for the video!
Hello Ray, good day to you!

Adam Savage had either the kill people bolt or something just as important fail once. By that time, he was basically a stunt driver. He managed to turn on emergency lights and siren he happened to have before it stopped moving. Still terrifying. Bet his daughter remembers this vividly.
Good to know now I got the same issue with my Camry I was thinking something is loose but nah
I was working on my 99 Suburban and noticed the clamp for the kill people bolt was stripped. I drilled the thread's out and put a grade 8 bolt through it and used blue thread lock on it. Now it's better than stock.
Welcoming back!
Milwaukee high torque impact works really good just food for thought

Nice job Ray, I was just thinking that you should have started all the bolts before tightening and then you loosened them and it all fell into place. Nice to see that you don’t edit certain things out, it shows even you can have something not work out the first time. That’s a great trait that you’re willing to share with us.
Afternoon, Ray. Missed the premiere earlier. This is going to be a good video.
Great , Ray !!!
Same issue with my LS430, it seems, because new tie rods did nothing.
Good morning Ray
I know torque limiters get a lot of hate but they are absolutely necessary if you want to preserve the studs on your wheel hubs.
Usually the intermediate steering shaft on these cars.
outer vs inner replacements I'll generally let it slide if the outers were replaced in the last 2-3 years or 30k miles knocking, I had that with a torn column coupling, was the rubber kind, let it go till it got the knock both ways xD
My last two wheel alignments were by my own eyes, and were better than local professional.
@27:59 I was shouting "loosen up the four bolts"!! Then @28:10 you were listening to me!! Then @ 28:33, Eureka!!! Success!! Oh how sweet!!!

Never run a nyloc nut down with a drill or impact. The speed heats up the nylon insert and can deform them and make them ineffective.
@lebotnov66
Жыл бұрын
Could use an oval nut instead, no?
There is stub shaft that attaches to the rack and can be removed from the steering shaft from the inside. Much easier to leave the stub shaft on and drop it with the rack then fighting the boot to get it lined up
“I think I can… I think I can…” The little Yota that could!
It's not just personal preference. A large part of many part's value lies in the labor needed to replace it. So unless the part is immortal or really expensive in it's own right, go ahead and replace it.
Looks like your 'eyecrometer' worked for the alignment. ;)
You make it seem so simple Ray. Now if I have to replace my Rav4 steering thingy, I can with confidence. 😂 Well done. -SALUTE-
