Yes it is a 7 string with a 8 string pickups, I noticed some of abasi got the same setup

you absolutely can play it on 6string, as long as you have thick enough strings set. and the tuning is basically whole step down from 7 string standard tuning which is BEADGBE tuned to ADGCFAD low to high string.
