One of the greatest episodes in the series. The final minutes are intense, kind of paying homage to the 1st movie in a way. When they decide to go all out to close the door. Probably explains why the 2nd ave subway construction.

Possibly the most epic episode in the history of the series. This would have been a perfect framework for a Ghostbusters 3. This was the closest the show came to replicating 80's horror/apocalyptic anime. From the Go Nagai like ghosts to the last few minutes, this was a great way to open season 2.

After recording of the dialogue was completed, sound tapes, storyboards, backgrounds, and character designs were then shipped to DiC Founder; Jean Chalopin's Japanese studio; KK DiC (1986) / KK C&D (1987 onwards) and similar studios in Tokyo, Japan, such as TMS Entertainment and Toei Animation among others (South Korean studios during the final two seasons) for animation and filming.

J Michael Straczynski wrote the best RGB episodes. The only problem I have with this episode is that the construction workers don't actually open the door. The foreman says we aren't going to stop just because the door says so and calls the drilling machine forward. Then there's a rockfall revealing the rest of the ?temple? around the door, it laughs and then opens itself. The workers weren't to blame unless intention was enough to cause the door to open.

The door was not meant to be opened by a person but rather the herald of Doomsday, after which everything on The Other Side would be released. Bob's defiance of the warning and his order to drill through it gave the "gatekeeper" reason to open albeit early. One could argue its laugh right before opening meant it knew humanity just asked for the end and here it comes!
This is one of the most memorable episodes for me as a kid. I love the animation how those trains morph into worm monsters things. Also the whole episode itself is movie material. When I grew up we used to own this episode on VHS, bundled with the episode Play Them Ragtime Boos - both the non-syndicated version (difference: subway scene played Boogieman by Tahiti instead of the RGB theme). This episode is the quintessential Real Ghostbusters episode if you ask me. Ramping up the danger, introducing a genuine scare and threat to the world of the Real Ghostbusters. Best of all: VERY light on the Slimer aspect of the show. One of the best, perhaps even the best RGB episode of the early run. @@CROSSTATT nah. It was Japan. I remember from the dvd commentary on that episode about them in Hollywood making a movie.
One of of the best The Real Ghostbusters epiodes of all time.
There's a KZread video by The Proper People where they explore the abandoned Cincinnati subway system, and the entire thing reminds me of this episode.
WOW THIE REMINDS ME WATCHING THE SAME GHOSTBUSTERS ON SATURDAY MORNING IN 1985
I don’t know what’s weirder. The fact that Egon doesn’t where anything under his coveralls or that he apparently has chest hair.

He is manly man like ned flanders
I'm 33 now and I can still remember when I first saw this as a child. Good memories :)
Yet another great JMS-written episode. I swear, all of my favorite ones turn out to be by him. Between this, Captain Power, and B5...

He is really good at what he does. He also did some great stuff when working on comics with Superman and Spider-Man, even if he had some misses too.
legendary. epic. memorable episode.... doomsday. creepy. apocalyptic. suicide mission.!! whoa. then using the proton packs to their max powers was awesome.!! EGON IS GOAT.!! respect... animation was also top dollar quality here. definitely one of my favorite episodes in the series. :)
This is probably my favourite episode from Season 2, I remember when I was little those subway dragon-worms were so... narly, just imagine an underworld with a hub full of them.
One of the best episode.
5:40 Logo Ghost: (narrating) It’s time to take action, Ghostbusters!
Hands Down! This One Was My All Time Favorite Episode! I Remember Haveing To Rent This One On VHS Plus I Like How To Play Triubte To The Movie But It Was So Epic.
This has always been the best episode of the series, and should have been turned into a movie.
You have to admit the Ghostbusters ain't never scared, especially when the New York subway station gets possessed by the supernatural probably damned souls from hell. I swear this is so fascinating it's addictive, because every now and then the Ghostbusters will mention something that happened many years ago before before our existence. Like the Philadelphia Massacre 1947, which is mentioned in the first Ghostbusters movie if you listen closely to the dialogue as they explore the library. Seriously whenever the Ghostbusters mention a piece of real history it's like seeing the late great Stan Lee in various Marvel superhero movies, oh my God I love the Ghostbusters!
This was one of my favorite episodes. The ending, to me, was a climatic as the first movie.
This is my favorite episode of ghostbusters. Well that and the 'sticky business' episode. Lol
They couldn't have done better with this spinoff of this, truly perfectly done,i loved this.
@14:05 I always though Venkman meant "well it's too dangerous. Come on, let's go home." Because he's pointing back the way they came. But then they push on forwards.
This episode, as well as many others, was written by none other than J. Michael Straczynski, creator and writer of Babylon 5, one of the greatest sci-fi series of all time. No wonder this animated series was so good, at least for the first 2 seasons, before it was dumbed down and made to focus on Slimer.

Probably got covered by heavy concrete afterwards with a NYC Dept. Legal notice warning not to drill there.

Doomsday is inevitable...
This episode and the Boogireman the sound FX, voice modulations and music stings were just haunting.
Gotta be the R or the 7 train, that thing is always packed. I guess Ray got to see the '86 Mets win it all too.
