Knitting: Pressed Flowers MAL, video 4: mattress stitch to sew your Pressed Flowers cowl together

April 2023 starts our Pressed Flowers Make-a-Long, which focuses on the series of patterns written by Amy Christoffers centered around her Pressed Flowers motif. It's a great motif because it uses garter and stockinette mosaic, as well as flat knitting or knitting in the round, depending on the pattern. She has written patterns for a shawl, cardigan, hat and cowl (listed below). We also have a few kits (yarn only) for the hat and small cowl, as well as the shawl and large cowl. Cardigan amounts will vary by size.
These videos are meant to assist with the pattern elements rather than replace the written pattern. This fourth video is on the method I used to sew my cowl together, the mattress stitch.

Mattress stitch is super fun to zip it up! Ok I’m easily amused😊. I often like to put in stitch marker clips at top and a few places along edge to keep myself lined up and know when I need to fudge a bit one way or other. Nice video as usual!

I agree with you that the mattress stitch is best visually. I’m thinking I’ll experiment with adding an extra row of the MC at the Cast-off end of my next Pressed Flowers cowl so that last row of slipped stitches isn’t shrunk a bit by using those stitches to bind off.

could you do a provisional cast on and then kitchener graft the cast on & cast off stitches? I've done that on other cowls, just not sure if it'll work with the mosaic stitch
