Haha- To the people who picked on you loving Sweden. We all have our Wanderlust places. I'm so so excited you like the knitting yarn ball holder, I also don't know what it's called😂. It occurred to me I didn't see your sock video either so I went and found it. KZread has been doing something annoying where when you refresh, your ques go away so if people, even paid members put it in their que to watch and they clear it- it's pretty much taking them off your memory bank. I think it could help to mention your latest videos so people can find them because we all love watching your podcast. Hugs~ Kimberly

Oh good to know! I'll have to try hard to remember to mention the videos... I'm terrible at self promotion though haha I rarely remember to mention kofi, instagram or anything else useful but I'll try my hardest! 🥰🥰

Oh, I just got up to the bit with your needle felting tool and I was all enthused for your new adventures in felted steeks, and then I heard my name. Thanks! I think you'll love the felted steeks. It will make you want to steek everything. 😅

I love the eggy socks!! Toe up socks are my favorite way to knit socks. Nerdy Knitting here on KZread has a handful of toe-up sock tutorials if you need help with the heel. Also, Roxanne Richardson has a whole series of videos about modifying short row style heels to fit better over larger insteps, like your mom's. I have a huge instep and a tiny ankle, so finding a sock recipe that works for me has been a whole journey and a half.

I have done a lot of darning and I hate to tell you that it just takes practice to make it more even. I would recommend a darning mushroom over a speedweave (which is the name for the little contraption you bought). But that's just what works for me.

I foresee a lot of practice ahead of me haha I actually did try a mushroom but it doesn't fit in that space due to the icord and part of the foot it's on. I love my little mushroom for a heel though on a sock 😁 A speed weave haha what a great name 😆

@@emilykatemadethis good luck! It is very meditative. Darning is honestly one of my favorite things to do.

Apparently silk is unbreakable, might be even better than nylon. More expensive though. I used a plant fibre for seaming once and the seaming snapped in several places, so lately I have been buying good quality sewing thread and using that instead of yarn. Then I discovered pure silk sewing thread and plan to just use that now.

Thanks for the info! That's an interesting idea.. I hadn't considered silk, which is odd since considering I know adding silk mohair to socks is supposed to help strengthen them. Not sure why I didn't think about silk on its own 😅

@@emilykatemadethis I am knitting with silk mohair in one of my current projects and forgot about the unbreakable silk thing. I tried breaking it with my hands and ouch!!

Yeah, I was among "those" who were surprised that you are thinking to take up learning Swedish, while living in Germany for over 7 years and, according to you, do not speak German and somehow gave up on learning, if I understood you correctly. You can not make yourself appreciate anything (again) on order, but not learning a local language is really strangely ignorant, imho.

  • @emilykatemadethis

Ah then you did indeed misunderstand me. I have not given up on learning the language at all. I am still actively learning. I just struggle with it and I am open about my struggles here. I will not pretend otherwise. But I still have my German books, movies, TV series and KZreads on daily. I am just finding it very difficult to absorb the language I did say one day I'd like to learn Swedish, that did not mean today 🤣 I thought trying out a new language could help remove the block around German or reinspire my language learning. German is 100% still going on in the background 😉 Just with a touch of rage thrown in here and there haha

Aaa, yes, then I did completely misunderstand you. Apologies! However, if after years living in Germany and learning the local language and your German is still very weak (but I might have misunderstood that, as well?), then there is something very wrong and unproductive in your approach to learning the language. It might have something to do with your introversion, not having a job outside home or having regular genuine contacts in German, plus your husband not being German himself. If you really cared to learn, you would find a way. Just like you find a way to overcome challenges regarding all the things you want to do, like knitting and sewing, e.g.
