Knitting and Designing a Colorwork Sweater From Start to Finish
#knitwithkika #knitting #colorwork
Hello and welcome to another knitting vlog where I design and knit an entire colorwork sweater from start to finish. Yes, in this video you'll both get to see the ups and many challenges along the way 😅
For this project I was really curious to see how long it actually takes to knit a sweater, as in how many hours of actual knitting it takes to complete an entire sweater, so I tracked the entire process ⏳
*This sweater is going to be part of a knitting pattern book that I'm currently working that is coming out in the Fall 2022 🎉
**Here's the link to download the free pattern for Marshmallow Beanie that I'm wearing in the video
view.flodesk.com/pages/61a231...
***App that I used to design the color work pattern is called Knitting Chart
apps.apple.com/fi/app/knittin...
****
Here are some time stamps from the video:
1:58 The idea for the color work sweater
6:18 Day 1: Casting on & feeling excited
9:45 Day 2. Things already start to go wrong…
19:10 Day 3: Knitting on a frozen lake
20:53 Day 6: A few rough days later and we have a yoke, finally!
23:38 Day 9: Houston, we have a problem, we’re running out of yarn…
25:06 Day 10: Being resourceful & how long I’ve spent knitting this far
27:45 Day 13: I can see the finish line
19:50 Day 14: Finishing touches
31:06 Tips on how to wet block a handknit sweater
33:38 How much time I spent knitting the entire sweater
34:33 The final result :)
I'd love to know what your thoughts were on this video and if this is something you'd like to see more of? I hope it brought you some good insights and enjoyment!

It's April, 2024. I just finished watching this whole video on how long it took you to knit your colorwork sweater. I love that you took the time to keep track of how long it took to knit. I am enjoying your tutorials as well. Also, my first time watching you was just before you had your son; wishing you all the best as a new mother. Thank you

🧶 I recently returned to knitting...sorted out my stash and my wips, some of which had been almost finished for years. I also rejoined Ravelry and then my KZread feed suddenly became alive with knitting channels that I didn't know were out there. Your channel is my new favourite. Your personality and the quality of your photography and editing lift it out of the usual. This is the first episode I've watched and I'll be going back to savour the rest as I knit through my stash. The sweater is amazing. If it took you that long to knit it would take me three times as long. One thing you did say in your video is that you should pull out things that you know aren't right if they will bother you. Great advice. I need to redo a button band on a cardigan I am finishing off as they are so untidy and unevenly placed. I had almost convinced myself that it would be OK, but having seen what you did with your sweater it's given me the courage to rip back the button band and start again. Love the snowy outdoor scenes too. Much love from Italy!

Not only is this an amazing and cute sweater knitting video, it is informative to both knitters and non knitters. Now when non knitters ask me to make something, with innocent ignorance about the labor involved, I can send them this video for reference, and I imagine it will change their perspectives about what they are actually asking for! 😆 Your personality is so fun, love your knitting content. 💗

I love that you're designing on the go. Planning everything in advance is hard and I noticed I prefer 'knitting to measure' instead of following a pattern blindly. But I sometimes feel like I'm doing it the wrong way when I need to unravel something because I don't like it. So nice to see someone else just accepting occasional unraveling as part of the proces😊 oh and 🧶😉

Thank you for the free hat pattern! Hope to get as good as you on knitting difficult things but, I'm still at simple. 🧶 I love how this sweater came out!! So beautiful. I watched this while knitting up my first swatch for my first knit sweater. I unravelled my swatch several times because of mistakes (knitting flat, etc.) and finally knit in the round on DPN and so was kind of relieved to see that even long-time knitters sometimes make a mistake with a swatch, and that I was right to take the extra time to undo and knit it round! I'm also encouraged that it's okay to make mistakes and unravel... I feel a lot of pressure to do it correctly the first time, but I think I could benefit from your attitude, and remember it's better to undo & have something you love in the end. :)

Wow, that is one of the most beautiful sweaters I have ever seen! It’s so encouraging as a beginner to see that even the masters have to frog back a project sometimes to make it work. It was painful to watch, but I think the final result is so worth it. The color work you did is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for this video, it made knitting an entire sweater seem like something I could actually realistically accomplish someday, even though I know it’ll take me a lot longer. 🧶

I really appreciate the hard work you designers go through for us to wear such wonderful hand made items. ♥

Absolutely beautiful. I knitted for a shop many years ago and was paid very little for my time and effort. I, like you, will unravel what I have knitted. My latest attempt was to incorporate the border of a baby's cardigan into the whole garment, which took a bit of trial and error when it came to decreasing at the armholes, to keep the pattern correct. I finally finished the garment for my friend's grand daughter. Thank you for some of the advice in your video.

So, I am a new knitter, but I am obsessed with your sweaters and have, like many people probably, bought enough yarn for like twenty sweaters, but maybe unlike many, I am not even able to knit a scarf. However, I am learning, and hopefully, one day, I will be able to knit as well as I crochet. 🧶 keep up the beautiful work you do.

WOW! Thank you for the inspiration! Thank you for sharing all the ups and downs of knitting a sweater...be it a simple pattern or a color work sweater... it can scare a new knitter like myself from even attempting to start. On a completely other note..you live in such a beautiful part of the world! Thank you for taking us on your walking expeditions. Still baffled that you can knit in bathtub, you must have an amazing memory...remembering your pattern?! Will order your book for sure! What a gift to us new knitters! 🧶
