You guys always inspire me to make more sweaters. 😂 I’m not sure if I have enough time in my life, but hey, I’m gonna try. I’m a very very very beginner spinner, Jackie and you keep inspiring me so I’ll give that a whirl too. Now I want to find haunui! (and I’ve cast on an Islet Drop) Carmen, finish that Stria! It’s so gorgeous and you know Rhinebeck is usually warm. It’ll be perfect. 😉 Jackie, you’re exactly right about project bags. I love them. They’re so cute and beautiful etc. but once your project is in them, unless you have big motivation to keep knitting on it, you forget all about them. I tend to work in a bit of a nest of projects because I like to do several at once and I like to have them just laying around for me but when I put them away, I forget about them. Oh Carmen! My first thought was you should finish your twig but as the podcast went on I think you’re going to solve it perfectly. It would be a shame to frog or just disappear that yoke that you’ve got so far. The colours are amazing,it’s so gorgeous! I hope that whatever you come up with works. I love the way it turned out, so far. Yes, I think you guys should bring a WIP your podcast, even if it’s occasionally. I certainly get some inspiration to check out my WIPs. It’s a great idea to look at them all before I go buy more yarn.😂 Thanks for your funny and thought provoking podcast. So enjoyable! ❤

I love a wip down so yes to more of Jackie’s wips! I find I have the opposite problem as most knitters because casting on is my least favourite part and I love the middle and end of a project. I do have lots of project bags with whole cakes of yarn and a pattern inside though…

I also have a long time herbernating Stria...I am about the same place you are Carmen. And the number of times I have gone back and forth on ripping it or finishing it, is incredible. Like every two weeks I'm like 'ok I love the fabric, I love the colors, it's amazing!'. And then two weeks later I'm like 'im never going to knit it'. I once out in back in rotation, and put a reminder two months later on my phone that said: if you haven't knit a single row on the stria by now, rip it out! And I hadn't - but still can't quite make myself rip it ahaha

I got through knitting my sleeves! I just moved to a country where I don't speak the language and you guys are now my only English speaking pals lol; thank you for recording 3 hours of the English language because I was seriously missing it. 😂 I'm one of those people who only buys yarn for a project, and I feel like my percentage is around 100%, at least for big projects? If the only yarn I can play with is my one project, it feels kind of inevitable. And I'm usually motivated by wanting to finish it so I can go shopping and start something new hahaha.

Another fun episode! Here’s what I do to keep track in Ravelry. As soon as I do my gauge swatch, I put the needle size in my project page. This also helps because there are times I may do a swatch but then not start the cast on immediately so I have something to refer to later on. Oh wait…. You don’t do swatches! 😂😂 I also create the project as soon as I buy/decide on the yarn cuz there were times I couldn’t remember what I bought the yarn for! I guess it’s just a habit to get into because now I add it as soon as I start! I also keep notes as I go because I know how much others’ notes help me!

A new podcast from you , this made my day … getting my pen and paper handy for all the new things I’ll need to cast on!!!

I had a wip for 4 years, one of Arne and Carlos pattern. I had done the entire body, was about to start the sleeves. I tried to restarted it and remember why I abandoned it in the first place: it was a full colorwork seemed sweater with pattern on the purl side too. I was about to give the whole thing away when I saw Florence from Handmade by Florence do Olympic sweater of Lillehammer. I had an epiphany: stop evening, reclaim the yarn and start this new thing. Absolutely love it! One never know what a wip may come! 😂

I love the photos on Ravelry, gives me an idea how something will look on me if I see how it fits my body type.

So fun! I have many wips but there is one that I have to decide what to do. I am now leaning toward frogging it and repurposing the yarn.

I like the brioche suggestions for the Aster. Plus, I think with your petite frame a shawl-ette totally works! It's just not a huge wrap that is going to go around your elbows.

Hey Carmen! For your Twig, once you finish the yoke and then seperate for sleeves, then you could change your needles to have a looser gauge on the body and it would go much quicker, like the Wervel from neons and neutrals!

If you're looking for brioche, check out Synaptic Stitches' Braided Bread sweater or Levain cardigan! They are knitted bottom up and seamed, but Jenn has lots of great "fearless knitting" tips to help you do all the techniques and fix mistakes!

Great episode :) If you would like to see how Andrea Mowry styles her asymmetrical triangle shawls, she includes a clip near the end of episode 22 of "I'll Knit if I Want To" (around the 30 minute mark). Yours turned out beautifully!

This was such a great episode! I want to knit so many double silk/mo shawls now, and I don't even wear shawls--you two are just brimming with inspiration, as always my queue is now completely destroyed. So, I have a WIP management strategy to share with you: check out Wool and Honey's "Gideon Method." Basically, you identify five languishing WIPs you want to finish, order them 1-5, and then picking up #1, work on it monogamously for either 12 knitting hours or until it's bound off, whichever comes first. Then, unless it's finished, it moves to the bottom of the pile again and you do the same with #2, etc. You never have to slog along for more than 12 hours of working on something, but it's a meaningful enough chunk of time that Progress Gets Made. If you have more than 5 languishing WIPs, you can add one to the list when something gets done. You can do it! I believe in you. Thank you so much for these long, chummy episodes; I love them so much. Get another battery and do four hours, I'm here for it. xoxo

I love seeing people with a lot of wips!! Makes me feel as if I am normal!! I have been making an effort to frog or finish what I have on the needles and am making progress!! I also buy yarn without a specific project in mind and admire those who are more deliberate in buying yarn and picking projects, but that’s not me. It’s my hobby and I can do what I want to!!!

You asked how we add stash -- by watching enthusiastic podcasters, haha! I've now got two baskets waiting for my final 'make this purchase' click, thanks to you both. Haunui, who knew?? Funny you mentioned moss stitch during this show, since you provided company as I linked back a couple of rows to fix my moss stitch. Knitting Say Hello in Garthenor Number 1 Shetland, and I keep missing the moss rhythm because it's hard to see at night. Love your show!

Hi Jackie To finish your pink shawl I would do another contrast stripe then eyelets then a contrast stripe , more eyelets then as a border either corrugated rib ( using both colours) OR a two colour BRIOCHE band which would tie it all together and add texture

I'm knitting on my 2nd Twigs now, and had the same issue as Carmen with a larger row gauge, so that my finished body is a lot longer than my preferred length. For her, I would suggest dividing for body and sleeves either just before or just after section 8 chart, and removing the section 9 and 11 charts completely. I think to preserve the balance of the colourwork, you need to remove 2 motifs, one large and one small. Something I also noticed when knitting my first Twigs is that the stitch count is quite small in the upper part of the yoke, where it's supposed to go over the shoulders, and if you're knitting that section on gauge then the sweater as a tendency to ride up at the front, fit quite high on the body and sometimes create a bulge at the front neck or the top of the back between the shoulders. To fix that I knitted the upper yoke on a larger needle, at 26sts/10cm, going down to a smaller needle after I divided for sleeves, and I find this creates a better fit.

Checking in late due to travel. Your WIP down was fantastic. I actually picked two wips to take on my travels with an in-process test knit. I was thrilled to have the wips as intermission pieces, knitting a few rows, when I wanted a break from my test project. I’m keeping those two wips out and visible while I knit other items. Rather than look at hem and feel ugh, I now look at them and see they’re like little plants that just grow at a slower pace 😊. Carmen, maybe stop the Twig 😬 I hate to say it, but really think about your wips as a teeter-totter/see-saw balance… does your desire for the finished item bring the heavy weight of disliking the process into balance? Jackie, on the Moonstruck Knits shawl…. Increase your needle size! Go to a US 3 or 4 - Nutiden is quite forgiving. The slightly larger needle will benefit you with a more drapey gauge, perfect for the outer section of the shawl. On Nutiden Shawls…have you tried Teti’s Laneus ?! It’s crescent shaped… I test knit it with one strand of Nutiden and one strand of silk mohair ❤❤❤. For a brioche knit - just brioche on cuffs and shawl collar - take a peek at Natasja’s Letho Cardigan. I have a few other wips chillin in a cabinet resting really cocooning until their becoming seems right. No worries about them or my stash. Sometimes I buy for a pattern but more often because the fiber or the maker/source speaks to me. I love the energy in its many forms. Thanks for the diversion!

hooray, friends to keep me company on a morning of finishing/blocking one thing and thinking back to an error in a second... your good cheer has helped me get through it! definitely don't enjoy picking up (i have button bands to make on the thing that's blocking that i so. do. not. want. to. deal. with.), and didn't enjoy ribbing UNTIL i realized that it's because my default knitting style is english/throwing, and hence always having to let go of the needle while shifting the yarn back and forth -- on my recent test-knit for Teti that's almost ALL ribbing, i switched to continental and suddenly it was fine. (for plain stockinette i prefer the feeling of holding the yarn in my right, but i switch between styles pretty easily, thankfully.) and funny to see all of your summery knits on a morning where it's only 6°C here, "summer" means something very different in Iceland! but my sister in New York has asked me to try to recreate a camisole our grandmother made for her years ago, in cotton and silk held together, so that's my next cast-on -- so i'll be summery, too! thanks for the chat, i really needed it this morning! (p.s. LOVE that Diatom shawl, such amazing color despite missing out on the texture! bravo!! i may need to finally learn brioche... although one of my other projects is a test-knit using silk-merino lace held with suri lace, and the whole thing feels like a giant nest of kittens.)

and re: Carmen's WIP-down -- i can't help with the Stria, it's very not my colors nor style; Twigs i actually would recommend just ripping it out, there's too much you don't love about moving forward on it and you could find another colorwork pattern for the color combo. (this coming from someone who just ripped out half a full-colorwork body a few days ago, because one of the five colors just didn't belong there.) or maybe just rip out the motif you're in the middle of, as it looks too large to be the "bottom" of the yoke? not sure. my WIP that i needed to think back this morning (fixed now, and moving forward again) is Inese's Baltika shawl, and it's FABULOUS -- just the right amount of involved -- if you need another of hers to replace the one that's been ripped out.

and stats for the buy-for-specific-project or not: looking at my Ravelry page, out of 85 projects i've made since learning to knit (not counting the first few patternless attempts), 5 used yarn bought specifically for that project. and i can think of at least 10 piles of yarn stashed around my house that were bought for a project but not (yet?) made. so, definitely a buy-it-&-figure-out-what-to-do-with-it-later kind of girl.

An idea for the Aster shawl: change it into something like the Batad by Stephen West, maybe? I think it is already the right size for that. The low contrast combination is very beautiful and I don't think you can frog one strand Nutiden easily, or at all. It is very light and will be nice to wear in the winter, at home.

Love the wip show! Jackie, have a look at the Bohemian Wrap by Polo Sylvie, (Isabel Kramer knit this pattern in gorgeous colours that I tried to copy). The pattern has an easy, great lace edging/lace frill that you might like for your Aster shawl.

I have the Stria pattern...but if you can't finish it then I won't even cast on... it's sooooo cute!!

Hi. I like your videos and seeing your beautiful knits. I am about to finish an afghan for my granddaughter to take to her college when she goes back. I have been working on it for five or six weeks and it has 216 stitches across and it will be 65 inches long in the colors of dark purple and white. It is in Rios yarn and I am working on it in rows of garter stitch and it has some purl stitches. It feels so good to cover yourself with, and she will enjoy it. I have also in the works a smaller afghan for me with different colors of Rios yarn, and that is for me. I have been knitting now for four years daily and really like it. It is part of my day, and the motion of knitting relaxes me. Happy 4th of July and Take Care. 😊

I've just spent two days procuring the right needles and cord length and now I feel like its really small. Like maybe too small to get over my head! any advice would be geatly appreciated.

The twigs sweater is beautiful but ... I would rip it.

Carmen- I think you should rip out the Twig. Your face and sigh when you were talking about it seemed like misery more than joy. If you have to have the product, then give yourself a dedicated amount of limited time to work on it each day- like 3-5 rows. Time is too precious to spend on a WIP that isn't sparking joy, hope or excitement. It's beautiful but you can make something else beautiful with that yarn. And have Jackie rip it out for you if it's too hard for you.

The lighting is very blown out when I watch this on my Chromecast wíth Google TV. If I watch on my Samsung tablet or Pixel phone it seems not so bad. I miss the days where you recorded in the basements. Not only was the lighting better but the dogs seem to behave better as well.
