Chicken girl aesthetic is so fun! Loving all the pattern recommendations and I can totally imagine myself in a chicken coop, pottering around in these knits! 🐓 I feel the sudden urge to get some chickens 😂

I feel like I'm having what I've dubbed a "frog boy spring/summer." Essentially, froggy colors (browns, greens, deep reds, etc.), and taking inspiration from frogs and their habitats. This is a recurring source of inspiration for me so I figured why not base seasonal knits on frogs? Should be fun!

@@sarahs.handmakes well a lot of sweaters have inspired me, but specifically the Méandres by Mélina Hami. It's such a lovely color and the pattern reminds me of a yellow frog climbing into a tree. Definitely on my list of things to make!

This really resonates with my style. The colour palette and loose knitwear over dresses with hair back in bandana/scarf is always something I end up in. Don't know about actually handling chickens though lol! I think the Soiree pattern by Emily Foden would be perfect for this look. It's oversized, with casual rolled up edges and a very comfort focused style (but still looks so pretty). Other patterns I'm thinking of are the oversized Gentle Lopi by Melody Hoffman, Chaika (wide sleeve version) by Midori Hirose, Tahka Cardigan by Sari Nordlund and the Douglas Cardi (in muted stripes or even solid colour) by Andrea Mowry. The general look of Laerke's (Fiber Tales) patterns I believe fit this vibe too and especially her upcoming, yet to be released, new cabled cardigan. Nicely put together and great look to explore.

Ooh those are some great pattern recommendations! I’ve added a few more to the pattern bundle. Thank you! I’m really glad that the style resonates! I’m also not sure about having chickens 😆

I had to watch this when I saw the title as I first started using the term "chicken coop core" a couple of years ago when my daughter moved to a small country town with some land and chickens and I began sewing and knitting her a chicken coop core wardrobe. Of course, she thought it funny when I told her that someone else is now also using the term. Thanks, great video and while I have made a couple to the patterns you have talked about, there are a few more I'd love to make

Oh that’s so funny that you’ve also been using this term to describe this aesthetic! Is there anything else you’d add on to my description?

Had bantams as a child, so sweet as pets with little eggs, loved the photo of the egg colours. Definitely agree that boots are this aesthetic we had a very territorial bantam rooster that you needed to wear protective clothing for, apron would also be great with pockets but maybe that’s a sewing project. I will think of this as garden core 😊thanks for the good pattern ideas

Aw that’s so great! Thanks for watching. And I agree- an apron would be a great addition to this aesthetic but maybe not the most knit-able items. It’s definitely a garden core as well ☺️

Sarah!! I am obsessed with the chicken girl aesthetic! I think this is maybe the best way to explain one of my ideal aesthetics. But to be fair, I also have never owned chickens haha. I may have to make some of these patterns. Although I already have like 4 cardigans in my queue 😅

I’m so glad it connects with you! And I’m glad we can both just idealize owning chickens with no practical experience 😂 I bet some of the patterns in your queue are already chicken girl as well. And thank you on the vase! It’s from a few years ago at urban outfitters. I really love it

Hi Sarah, I just discovered your channel, looking forward to checking out some more of your videos! I too came to the realisation that my aesthetic is chicken girl a couple of months ago! 😅 🐣 Although I like a more colourful fit. I live in Birkenstocks and Bludenstones, have plans to make some lovely linen dresses and obv love knitwear. I used to own chickens and ducks, and hope to one day have a little farm of my own. 🧶🩷✨

I’m so glad you came across my channel! Thank you for being here 😊 and I’m so happy to find another chicken girl! You’ve nailed the main elements- including actual chicken and duck ownership! I’m jealous- I’ve always wanted to own a duck. Ironically not chickens 😆

@@sarahs.handmakesthank you for your lovely warm welcome ☺️ I forgot to mention re: chicken girl, that I also live in my jeans and overalls. I think I'm a summer, but perhaps a more bold/bright than what you typically think of for a summer. Ducks are awesome! 🦆 My hubby and I ended up with 21 ducks haha 😂 but sold them to a free range farm when we wabted to adopt our dog 🐶 A few things about keeping ducks: their eggs are much larger than chicken eggs, great for cakes and even just fried 🍳. They are noisier than chickens and their poops are pretty messy! But if you've got the yard, neighbours who dont mind hearing some quacking, good protection from predators, and are happy to start eating a whole lot of eggs, then ducks are great ❤ If you spend lots of time with them, they'll come up to you for snuggles 🥰 Oh and ducklings are adorable! 😍 I have some photos and videos on my instagram if that tickles your fancy 🐥🐥🐥 @lizzie.handmade.wright P.S. Just watched your video on your lovely cardigans. You've inspired me to finally make one! 😊✌️

I love this! I have a friend who had chickens and lived on coop hill rd. Her and her mother lived this esthetic. It was beautiful. I also aspire to have chickens, but am not there yet. In Alaska our xtratough rainboots and really tall socks to peep over would have to be part of this look. Dark brown could be poop on the eggs. Also “harvesting” is the term for killing chickens for meat… I have helped with this chore before and a bandana to keep the hair our of your face would be great for this. Don't want to get blood on my knitwear tho.

That’s so great! Those would have to be long socks- and I love the idea of the dark brown as chicken poop 😂 and I definitely don’t mean harvesting in that way! Trying to use egg collecting more 😂 I agree getting hair out of your face for that chore would be useful but it may not be a knits-friendly activity
