Another way to use the barber cord is to attach it to one end of your needle and then pull it all the way through, taking the needle completely out. That way you don’t have to worry about the needle coming off the cord inside the row!
Glad you are wearing purple and blue, so pretty. Cheers!!!
I'm using my old handbags as project bags. I'm retired now and wouldn't use them otherwise..
Love all my Twice Sheared Sheep goodies! The cable lock is so helpful with my current WIP. Love that you timed yourself, Jonna. 😂
I love this episode, I recently bought a knitting rucksack so that I can always have everything I need or might need, since I knit in different rooms in the house and also outdoors. It has eyelets for yarn in progress and loads of cubbies for needles, notions etc. and I can have it on my back so my hands are free 🎉

I loved to see all the cute bags and notions… you girls are too cute. I love all the tiny pretty things. I need to see what wips I will bring to my trip to Colombia.
Good grief, that's a ton of notions and containers. Do you have a separate granny trolly to carry all of them? Sorry, just kidding 😂 Like Kim said, 'Wow'! Loving the show and tell ~ doesn't make me feel so bad. 😂
Was browsing to see what regular knitters keep in their knitting bag . Came across this one instead. Wow congrats on the new job , hopefully they send 2 of everything so you can split the free stuff.
Fun to see your notions and organization styles. The row counter looks like something I would use since I'm a jotter onto a sticky note on the pattern person. P.S. Your Weekender is gorgeous, Kim! I love the color.
Just like Kim, I also keep a nail file and a flosser in my knitting notion pouch 😂
So glad y’all are affiliated with Twice Sheared Sheep! I found them years ago and now have multiples of many of their products!!! I have used their row counters on almost all my projects for a long time! Absolutely irreplaceable! ❤️
What a fun minisode! I have a cartful of things at Twice Sheared Sheep! Kim the Weekender is lovely and, Jonna, that Salty Air Tee is beautiful!

Row counter is a notion that I’ve had issues with but the Twice Sheered Sheep row counter looks easy to use. Need to buy one immediately
Great organisation Jonna. Love seeing what notions everyone has. 🇬🇧
Just ordered several things from Twice Sheared Sheep and they have a 20% off coupon for first-time customers....very nice!
Haha, everyone has a Kallax! I got the last turquoise-gray. Love it.
I love the sneak peek into your methods (and minds!!). ❤❤😂🎉
Hi there! I'm in the midst of this episode (enjoying it, thanks!) and just had to pause and tell Kim that if you put your printed pattern in a plastic page protector, then you can use washi tape and it won't remove any of your pencil crayon markings in your colour work chart. This is what I use whenever I'm knitting from a printed chart. So handy!

Seems they've thought of everything! When I want something, I'll go through your affiliate link - thank you. I have a Franklin Habit notions bag with many of the same things you carry - and I also carry hand repair cream - my other hobby is gardening and desert plants are HARD on hands. Yes, I have gloves, but ya know.... Good episode, thank you.
Love your laughter 😆 😅😂
I’m like Jonna… little boxes, zip bags etc for all the doo-dads I’ve accumulated over the years. Wayyyy back in my early knitting days, I used a knotted loop as a place marker. For row counting, a long piece of yarn did the trick (especially for crochet). I’ve got a backpack w extra notions, but I like Jonna’s idea, Alllll the things in one place. My C.G. set stays home… I’d hate to replace! Annnnd of course I’ve got the red & blue shortie sets, and the extra (4”) tips I’ve ordered (yes, more cables too!) because the ones I need are in another bag (somewhere…).. I KNOW I’ll be getting stuff from T.S.S. because… they have the coolest notions (that I don’t have & really want)… For sock markers, light bulb shaped, I clip 12 into a little bunch for each sock, pink = center back/sole, green = beg of gusset dec rnd, red = end of that side (each side of instep sts). When gusset decs done, I use to count rows to the toe. Throughout I mark every 20 rnds, so second sock is same length. This was FUN! I like to see other ideas !! Especially when I “might” have to get myself some New Notion or Tool !!

Kim, my notions tin looks the same inside as yours. I'd love for it to look like Jonna's, but I'm pretty sure that will never happen. Thanks for the link to Twice Sheared Sheep, just placed an order.
Another great episode! I always love to see what notions other knitters use and how they organize them. Thanks for sharing!
I forgot to pack a ruler or measuring tape in any of my 4 project bags that i brought on our 3 week road trip to Arizona and California. I'm going to have to stop somewhere tomorrow to buy a ruler so I know when the sleeves are done on the baby sweater I'm knitting
Another enjoyed episode! And a few notions tip!
I have quite a collection of knitting and project bags. So, I tend to fill each one with a project. I bought some little organza bags from Joann's. Each bag has a bunch of light bulb markers, stitch markers, a tapestry needle and a row counter. I also keep any needles I might need in the bag. If I am going out to knit in public, I will throw a measuring tape and a pair of scissors in my project bag.

Such a great idea!!
I made my own tow counters and I love the idea but find them so fiddly and annoying to use. I really want to try Twice Sheared Sheep’s stitch markers but it’s so hard for me to buy stitch markers without getting to try them first as I’m fussy and I’d need ti ship internationally. I love what’s in my bag videos. I love seeing what other knitters use and how they organise.
I LOVE my row counter from Twice Sheared Sheep - it has been so helpful on so many different projects!
I put a knitting chart inside a thick plastic filing sleeve. On the outside of the plastic I use painter's masking tape strips to keep track of which row I'm on.

Twice Sheared Row Counters are fantastic!!! I use the odd/even for flat work. I use the 5 count for patterns that are 5 rows or less. I have the 10 count row counters in small, medium, and large for ALL my projects. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Twice Sheared Row Counters!! I must have 15 of them and I need more!!! Also love their numbered stitch markers as they make it so easy to count the stitches on the front/back/sleeves of projects.
Love your podcast, great info!
I ALWAYS bring my entire red lace chiagoo interchangeable set with me when I travel. I went to the UK last year and took them in my carry on and no one said anything. I've been doing it for years and never had an issue. Once a few years ago at LAX I had a project in my purse and they had to open my bag up and look through it. They didn't even bat a lash when they saw my needles, just handed me my things back and let me go on through.
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna

Good to know! 💕 Jonna has never had a problem, either.
For tapestry needles, I use the container that my pencil lead came in. I also use a metal container from the Margherita salt as my little knit kit. In this box, I have my small Fiskar sewing scissors, a U-shaped cable holder, a small crochet hook, a golf pencil, a chunk of a plastic eraser, several Clover locking stitch markers, a spool of green cotton thread, several lengths of diferrent colored DK cotton, a large and a few small paper clips, and a retractable tape measure. I make my own stitch markers out of the DK cotton by tying several loops on a length and then, cutting the yarn between each loop. I can organize them onto a paper clip so I don't lose them in between projects. I just take this tin and put it into any project bag I'm working on--quick and easy.

For hang nails, I find nail clippers to be a must! And, they can double as yarn cutters. :) I also keep a tube of Avon Silicone Glove (which doesn't leave any greasy residue) in the project bag for rough/dry hands.
You know, Jonna (and Kim), if you have Chiaogoo interchangeable needle sets, you have the rubber heart. Look in the zip pocket of any of the sets -- you should have various extras in that pocket, including a heart. Also connectors, which are super handy. Fun to see what's in your knitting bags!

I just love your salty air tee, Jonna ! I keep a few things in my current project bag like Kim does
This was a fun episode. For a while I was using a Vera Bradley jewelry organizer for my notions. It actually works really well. But I’ve switched to smaller pouches so that I can have a small pouch with essentials in each project bag. I just placed an order for a row counter and those great stitch stoppers! Excited 😊

That’s a great idea. Jonna is going to make a travel pouch that’s quick to grab. Like makeup essentials 😉
Have either of you taken the ClutterBug quiz? I'm so curious to see what you'd get. Jonna seems to be a cricket (micro categories, hidden storage), and Kim is clearly more of a macro category organiser if the stitch markers are anything to go by. 😂 I'm a ladybug most of the time (macro categories, hidden storage) but I use my crafty stuff more if it's visible - so I have butterfly tendencies there (macro categories, open storage).

US TSA allows knitting needles - no distinctions between wood or medal flying domestically. However international you always should check. Mexico does not allow - I found this out the hard way leaving Cancun. I flew in on a US carrier from the US -no problem . Leaving - needles were confiscated in security and I had my live stitches needle less!

Oh no! We've been so busy and haven't had a chance to answer some of these older comments. Do you remember which bag you are asking about? Was it a bag that Kim shared? Or Jonna?
But beware of traveling with scissors, you will probably have to pull them out of your bag. I had forgotten that I had a pair with 1” blades in with my knitting notions that I brought with me in my carry on. They were buried all the way at the bottom of my bag and I had to pull everything out to get to them. They let me on the plane with them, so it was fine, just be prepared if you do bring them.

That happened to my (Kim's) husband on our Italy trip! I have never test knit. I am definitely interested in hearing more about how it works
@KnitTogetherwithKimJonna
9 ай бұрын
Neither of us have really done any test-knitting either. It's a huge responsibility and commitment. You have to knit pretty quickly and to a very strict deadline. You also have to take really good notes, measurements, etc. and send your feedback back to the designer. In addition, you have to take good pics of your finished objects. But if you're interested, join some of your favorite designers' Ravelry groups because that's normally where they ask for test knitters. Then, if a project interests you, you can "apply" to be a test knitter. But be aware that they often use the same test knitters over and over again, and if they add others, it's usually on a first come, first served basis that depends on which size you plan on knitting. They usually want a test knitter for each size, so if you are a "common" size, then you will have a lot of "competition" as many other knitters will want to knit those sizes too. Anyway, sorry for the long reply, but your interest in test knitting definitely deserved a more detailed response. Test knitters are a very valuable part of the hand-knitting world!!! So GOOD LUCK if you decide to give it a try! And let us know how it goes... ❤️K&J
Every knitting bag I have has a locking stitch marker attached to the zipper

I used a fabric tape to measure for custom curtains……needless to say, they had to be returned to be adjusted for length due to the tape having stretched out over time. A very costly mistake.

I love seeing what other knitters carry around with them! Here's an older video on the Yarn Harlot's pouch: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hJiKl9GhkcuWdJc.html. And Kim, my stitches slip off the cord too and I'm a loose knitter. But the cord is a lot cheaper in the bead department of craft stores. I got mine from Michael's although I couldn't find it on the shelf and had to order it for store pick-up.

I also have trouble with the tubing slipping off and I try to be very careful. I really want it to work! So most of the time I extend the length of my interchangeable cords to facilitate trying it on.

@@louannyoung8434 Someone told me to cut off the very tip of the cord before reusing it and that does seem to help. Also, if you use interchangeable needles, unscrew the end and put on a smaller needle before slipping on the cord. It sill happens, though.

Hi Victoria, Sorry for my very delayed reply. I've had a super fun, but very busy summer so far! Anyway, Jonna has ordered the "cheaper" version of knitting cords and loves them. And I just have to be gentle and careful when transferring my stitches onto and off of them. But I love them nonetheless! 😊 Kim
🍎🍎🕊
Im using empty pill boxes
That was so much fun! I love new 'toys', but there is one I have that I never use: stitch markers. I've tried a couple different styles of plastic rings and hate the bulk between my stitches. I have some clip-on markers, but I hate how fiddley they are and they catch on my yarn. I do use them to mark the right side of my knitting but I would like to find something easier. To mark stitches and track rows, I use pieces of sock yarn. Wrap around the needle then pull the ends through the loop, and you have a marker that easily slides along the needles and does not create bulk in between your stitches. And extremely cheap....who cares if you lose a few. Also, easy to color code your markings with different colored yarn. About carrying your needle set....it took me two years to afford my Chiagoos, and I am terrified of losing them. I only take along the needles that are in my project, and leave the rest at home. I am one of the knitters that love the craft but can't afford all the goodies. Most of my knitting is done with acrylic, except for socks. I even made socks with acrylic, warm for Manitoba winters, but they don't take the wear and tear.
