    I didn't realise one could knit without looking at their knitting!! I'm so impressed you're looking at us 😅(knitting my way through your videos from the start)

    I’m a lefty knitter. I hold the yarn always in my left hand and the left needle is always my “active” needle. I knit continental moving stitches from the left hand needle to the right hand needle when knitting in the round. When knitting flat, I knit the right side continental and the wrong side I just reverse direction and knit English style moving stitches from the right to the left without flipping the work over. It blows people’s minds when they see it.

    Brioche really isn't so bad! It's easy to understand how to do - the hardest part is understanding the mechanics of it to be able to repair brioche mistakes. But since you're an engineer I would think this wouldn't be difficult for you. You should definitely take your own advice and just go for it! I think you'll love it.

    Do you have any advice for fixing brioche? I was chugging along with a brioche project and had to rip back 68 rows because I made a mistake and had no idea how to fix it. 😭

    @@loveinseattle i think it's just one of those things when it clicks it clicks. I had such a hard time at first, but then once I had to repair a pretty sizeable brioche mistake I learned so much from doing it. I guess the only advice I have is to analyze the correct stitches really closely to see how the yarn from both strands is supposed to come in and out. It is ultimately similar to correcting regular knitting mistakes, but you just have to understand the correct place for twice as many strands of yarn.

    I totally understand the time spent knitting! I love to spend my free time knitting and listening to a book. Living in Massachusetts has allowed me to find great little yarn store and knit outside at some of the ponds on hiking trails. Happy Knitting.

    I really like the polo sweater. Your “everything I knit in 2022” video convinced me to get the pattern. And I agree the knits I feel proud of are the ones that look like they’re “store-bought”.

    Fun episode Amy. Ck out Joji Locatelli’s News Paper sweater. I found Steven West was the best teacher for me. He teaches how to fix your mistakes and truly read the brioche stitch. I swatched for 2 days before I casted on the sweater. Lol I figured the swatch was easier to rip out than the sweater. Once you get the rhythm of two color brioche. It just feels so good! I think you would really enjoy it.

    Hi! I agree about starting new projects that you are intimidated by. I only restarted knitting this last fall and was inspired by the Ingrid sweater, however everyone talked about how difficult it was. I finally decided to try it and so far it's been a breeze! I used to crochet doilies, so I think reading those complicated patterns really prepared me for knitting (more than I thought).

    I was terrified of brioche knitting too, but I finally took an intro brioche class this fall and the “ah ha” moment for me was when the instructor said that basic brioche was like 1x1 ribbing so once I started looking at it like that, it wasn’t bad at all (still have lots to learn about it though). I also have Lesley Anne Robinson’s online intro course that has been helpful and project-based (Knit Graffiti). After seeing your beautiful Moby Sweater, I’m sure you can handle brioche!

    I’ve enjoyed watching your videos. You’ve inspired me to get back to knitting again. I would like to begin knitting sweaters. Do you find that you get a more “store-bought” look when you use 2 yarns for your sweaters?

  • @neknits

    @neknits

    That's great to hear you are back to knitting! I find actually I get a "store-bought" look more when I use just one yarn! Since most store bought sweaters don't have a fuzzy halo that you get with a mohair+wool, my just-wool sweaters tend to look more similar to commercial pieces.
