Cool stuff. Wow edge leading while standing over it, fuck that! He can keep that type of work all to himself. 😂 I noticed the radial platten and where he positions the knife. Is it slightly convexing or hollowing? Looks like it's slightly soft so I'm guessing a convex?

@@mitch3384 Not that I’m aware of. You can look at the video and see the direction of the spark pattern, he is sharpening edge trailing. In fact, Ryan does not like the edge leading method. That’s more Cliff Curry’s thing, and he only does it with an angle guide so the knife will disengage if the belt catches it.

@@JimSharpBlog Oh I was talking about the platen! Sorry should have clarified. Now that I think of it, it may have been another KZreadr called PG, but there's definitely a video out there explaining how to build that curved platen. I think it uses Teflon tape underneath to help with heat buildup, and a softer material that compresses slightly. I'm considering making one soon for my 4 wheel 1x30. Agree on edge leading - it has a bad rep, Cliff has done great work to dispel some of the incorrect info - it CAN be dangerous, but can also be quite safe if you follow a few basic rules. Much like every power tool.

@@mitch3384 Yup. That is a cool platen he made. It really helps the process. I may interview him at some point and see if he’ll talk about it. He has shown it at the shows he goes to.
