Knife Making | Making a Tanto Knife with the S guard

The material of this knife is made of soft manganese steel. The guard is also made of the same material and has been blackened. And has an S shape.
The handle part has been roped to increase friction and grip.

    Awesome blade! Would have likes to see a nice sheath too...one with leather inside and wood on the outside so that you can actually feel that beautiful blade gliding out.

    @@creatorqi 哪里哪里,其实整个设计和做工都很好,比例也很舒服 硬要说的话,就是最开始修型的时候,刀柄靠近两个肩膀(放护手位置)的地方可以稍宽一点 这样整个刀的强度更大,可以参考这个图片i.pinimg.com/originals/e5/89/2e/e5892eab2b1ab05e53eecdce95c3dd53.jpg

    This is a sharpening system that can be purchased directly on Amazon, but I do not recommend buying this model of sharpener because it is difficult to use.

    I've only one thing for you. Wear protective gloves, the real ones,especially during the sharpening phase. Keep on safety mate, fingers don't grove on trees

    Couple of things, take it however you want...because each to their own and I am assuming you’re both adults. And these are just my reasons and many, many other knife makers. 1: Gloves and a grinder? No. No matter how tight, or what material, wether they be cut resistant, flame resistant, whatever, are good way to lose your fingers in the machine if the material gets caught. 2: You need to feel how hot the steel is getting after heat treatment so you don’t ruin the temper. Knife making PPE is simple: Protect your lungs with a respirator protect your eyes with safety glasses and protect your ears with ear plugs, ear muffs with the highest db reduction you can find. Peace ✌️and great job on your tanto👊

    @@griffithshandmade-knives In the future, I will upgrade my heat treatment equipment to ensure temperature accuracy. So far I can only rely on experience for heat treatment. Thank you for your reminders and suggestions.

    @@creatorqi I was only commenting on why you should not wear gloves in reply to VENOM. I made no comment on your heat treatment, that’s your business. Grinding after heat treatment if you wear gloves you may not be able to feel how hot the knife is getting. Good luck 👍

    The polishing step is skipped after tempering, which is not the effect of tempering.

    I agree.....its sucks when flesh hits a belt but at least you can jerk back and say damnit. Let it grab a glove and who knows what will happen. I had a close call with my angle grinder and an unbottoned shirt over a t shirt....luckily the air from the motor blew my shirt away but one grab and that thing would have wound itself up in my shirt slapping my face, ribs, grinding, who knows what else.

    As soon as you hit something with it it's gonna snap at the crossguard cause you made the corners sharp instead of rounded

    You're saying that as if you can just snap a fairly thick piece of steel in one swing just because it has sharp corners on it. It may not be ideal ,but it's not gonna "snap as soon he hits something with it".

    @@3cho787 It really only snaps when there's a crack or a problem with the heat treat, or both. Those sharp corners are not that big of a stress riser.

    Yes, I think this is enough to bond the blade and the handle firmly. So far this knife has not shown any looseness.

    If the epoxy fills all the gaps between the tang and the wood, you're more likely to shatter the wood than pull that tang out of the handle. Don't let forged in fire tell you otherwise.
