Knife Making - Full metal Machete from Rusty Rebar

Here is a forged machete made with a rusty piece of rebar. I got it at a junkyard for almost nothing.
I decided to leave the rebar texture on the back of the machete so everybody can know where it started from 😉
I got lucky because the rebar took the quench, and is now razor sharp. I tried to beat the edge on hardwood, and it holds pretty well ! It's now ready to go camping in the woods 😃

Voici une machette que j'ai forgé dans un fer à béton. Je l'ai achetée chez un ferrailleur pour trois fois rien. J'ai décidé de laisser la texture du fer à béton sur le dos de la lame, pour que tout le monde puisse voir avec quoi elle a été faite !
J'ai été assez chanceux car le fer a béton a pris la trempe, et maintenant tranche comme un rasoir. J'ai testé le tranchant en un coupant un morceau de bois dur, et le tranchant a plutôt bien résisté ! Maintenant la machette est prête pour aller camper dans les bois 😃

What an absolute beast of a knife! Love this industrial look. Also the little imperfections on the handle - very unique.

@@m-8059 I normalized it 2 times before quenching, and then i quenched it in oil one time only. Then tempered at 180°C

My press is a repurposed log splitter. I didn't make a video of how i did it, but the principle is pretty simple. Remove everything, and figure out a way to have forging dies on it ! It's not very hard to do, but it is VERY IMPORTANT that your welds are good !!!!! If not, some parts are gonna start flying (that happened to me...)

I tried to beat it pretty heavily on some hardwood and it seemed to hold pretty well. The steel composition of rebar is random and i apparently got lucky !
