    I love this idea. You could hold the knife in place by adding a mudguard washer on each of your 2 bolts. Which could tighten onto the blade & remove need for the G clamp. Totally awsome for all straight blades. Great work!

    When making my jig, I realized why make the jig, angle adjustable when the work table of my grinder is easily adjustable. Leave the jig at 90 degrees and adjust the bevel angle with the table.

    Because the work table moves and will work itself loose. It's easier to keep it set at a 90°. I welded my table down permanently at 90° because I got tired of messing with it

    My work table doesn’t go beyond 90degrees, making it virtually impossible to use while grinding bevels.

    I am about to teach my 30 year old son how to blade-smith. I was interested in a jig as I do my bevels free hand and have the scars to prove it lol. I must say I am very, very impressed with your simple yet workable design. I am not to proud to say I'm in the workshop tomorrow to make one like yours myself. I shall however be using angle iron that's older than you by a good few years. Amazing what off-cuts you find a use for that projects like yours remind the brain what's in the deepest and darkest pits of the scrap corner lol. Good work young man.

    Congrats sir, you win bevel jigging. One thing that occurred to me is that instead of using a clamp, you could slip fender washers in between the head of the knife platform bolts and the jig and use them to clamp the knife to the body, you could also use wing nuts instead of nuts in that setup. Hands down this is the jig I've been looking for. Ticks all of my boxes

    Well done and presented. Don't apologize for your work. Everyone starts somewhere. Painting your jigs helps keep them from rusting and makes them easer to find. A nut welded to the adjustment plate with the bolt threaded into it will allow you to adjust the angle of grind without using washerd or cutting the slot in the plate. Thanks for the video.

    Great idea with the washers. If you use all the same size, or keep track of the specific sizes used, it will be easy to repeat the same grind on later knives. I think I might copy your jig. It's one of the most practical ones I've seen.

    Instead grinding a slot for adjusting could have just tapped the hole and used the bolt with a wing nut. That would achieve a much finer adjustment. Overall a great and easy build

    Great jig. Only issue is if you heat certain steel too much it will lose its temper or hardness. I will be borrowing this to adapt to my wet wheel. Great vid man! Thanks!

  • @450rmaniac

    @450rmaniac

    7 жыл бұрын

    To clarify what I mean by heating the steel is the sanding of the steel when sharpening. The sand paper will cause the knife to heat quickly and potentially reduce blades hardness etc. Again, jig did its job great and if you take light passes heat may not be an issue.

  • @RichardsonForge

    @RichardsonForge

    7 жыл бұрын

    It's definitely important to watch out for your heat treat after quenching and tempering. I make my bevels before all that so it's never been an issue. Thanks for watching! Appreciate it!
