I don't see it as sad as everyone else. Keep in mind that Battle Network takes place over the span of two years and Lan changes his PET model in every game aside from Battle Network 2. The BN6 PET is the final design we see in the series, sure, but there's no reason to assume new models didn't keep coming out. Besides, Navis still exist in the setting. If anything, it was more confusing to me that those PETs have sat there for 200 years or were only thrown away recently.
