South Africa's West Coast has a variety, an abundance of waves, if you are prepared to look, look hard.
From rolling left hand points to wedgie thunderous rights.
On a silky morning, as autumn swept over South Africa, Gigs found a right hand ledge. Winter promises more, much, much more.
Ian Thurtel was on hand to record the moments. ianthurtell?igs...

Thanks for the comment. Gigs, like any international athlete has a very tough training regime.
Was a kneeboarding junky for over 15 years, you could get so deep in the barrel, sit inside, less crowded, and get barreled all day long.

I hope you are still getting tubed
So the move is to pop up just using your core strength? Or do you slide the board back while popping up ? Buddy lent me a 5’8” quad fish and it is a way cool board!

This was a small day. He's got a 7ft board, which does show intent to ride huge stuff. We just need to get more cameras onto him.
What size and kind of board do you need to surf? Looks great fun

The kneeboard is typically between 5 ft 9 and 6ft 2. That length is driven by your body weight and the size of waves you will be riding. However the plan shape and rocker is quite different to that of a surfboard. The widest point is moved forward, as are the fins/skegs. If you are interested in the sport drop a message on one of the Facebook pages, there's a lot of second hand boards available.

Now this was the 70s but my favorite board was a 4'11" fish. And a 5'6" fish for big Blacks beach.
Without giving up secret spot specifics, where and when was this?

It's Cape West Coast. Couple of hours driving up from Cape Town. Early winter last year

Thanks. Gigs is the smoothest, power Kneelo out there. He does get out there, catching some of the best swells to ever hit our coast.
