    Do you own a set of the Klipsch Heritage Promedia 2.1 speakers? Do you have a hiss? Also, do you love them, like them or hate them? Curious what everyone thinks about them as I thoroughly enjoy them, even though I had to fix the hiss issue.

    Sometimes... and not always.... the hiss in speakers can be a reflection of the ground in the wall circuit (and/or other plugs that may be plugged into same strip/outlet) My house does not have grounding in all rooms. so in some rooms, my speakers are more susceptible to noise than in other rooms.

    Hey, I stumbled on this video and went ahead and bought the same amp, and did a similar setup as you, minus the sub control knob. I am happy to report it reduced the hiss by at least 75%, and completely eliminates that annoying "sleep" feature where you could hear a change in hiss level (which was the most annoying part). I actually love the little amp too, especially since I got my heritage 2.1 set for $150 on sale. Thanks again!

    Hi Casey, awesome video. You really seem to enjoy what you're doing; it comes through in your energy and enthusiasm. I'm considering buying these, but most of the reviews I've seen focus on their use as a desktop setup for PC, near-field listening. I'd like to use them as a main system for BT streaming music in a living room that's about 16x22 ft. Do you think this system has enough oomph for a room like that when I'm home alone and want to really crank it? Now I've got a cheap Panasonic 2.1 soundbar with about 240 watts and 6in ported sub, and that can get as loud as I ever need in the room, but of course the sound isn't anything great at higher volumes. I also like listening to a lot of classical piano, and the soundbar pretty much sucks for that. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers

    Hi @caseybueno Thanks for making the video, very informative and helpful. I have these speakers myself and have exactly the same issue with them. I decided to take a chance and buy the Fosi Audio device you bought and unfortunately there is still a hiss and in fact, there is a slight ticking noise now. This noise persists even when nothing is being played out of the speakers. I've bought different speaker wire (16 gauge pure copper) and a replacement RCA to aux cable. There wasn't a ticking noise before using the Fosi amp but there was a hiss. I've tried it on a laptop as well and still the same outcome, so that makes me think it could be the Fosi amp causing the interference (maybe?) Unfortunately this is the first pair of speakers I've ever bought so this is all fairly new to me. If you could offer any advice on how to reduce the hiss and/or the ticking noise that would be really helpful. Happy to try anything honestly, just want to avoid shipping back the speakers as they're very large :) Thank you!

    His is normally caused by bad gain-staging. In this case the output from the PC is too low and the last stage (the Klipsch system) has to have its gain set really high to compensate. If that's the case you increase the output from the computer and drop the gain on the Klipsch.

  • @BuenoReviews

    @BuenoReviews

    10 ай бұрын

    Yup! That’s what I thought at first too. I’ve been messing with audio forever - from installing several car stereo systems to recording my band back in the day. What’s wild is, the hiss was there without any input hooked up and was consistent at any volume/gain that the Klipsch was set to. It didn’t change with the volume unless I cranked the volume all the way up on the Klipsch, then the hiss would increase slightly. It just has a really loud noise floor.

  • @BuenoReviews

    Hey there! Yes you can! That said, I prefer the Fosi to have a flat signal, but there are bass and treble knobs you can adjust. IMO, the bass adjustment from the Fosi adds too much into the satellites for my taste so it wasn’t a viable option to control the volume of the sub. I got the passive volume knob because I didn’t wanna deal with the remote. I’m much happier adjusting the EQ with the app I show in this video. Granted, everything is flat on my setup and I love it. All that being said, I don’t adjust the bass via the volume knob all that much, but I’m happy I have it when I want to.

    Hey friend! I'm trying the last game. I try not to remove the woofer panel because it is dangerous. Instead, I am taking on the challenge of using a D.I box (direct box) to change the amplifier signal (active signal) coming from the subwoofer into a passive signal. It gets a little complicated. 1. PC->DAC (pre-amplifier) 2. DAC (pre-amplifier) 2RCA TO 2RCA subwoofer. 3. Subwoofer speaker out -> Connect separately manufactured cable -> D.I BOX 4. D.I BOX (in this case, stereo D.I box) -> 2XLR TO 2RCA -> Power amplifier (fosi) 5. Power amplifier (fosi) -> 2-channel speaker By nature, power amplifiers cannot accept [active signals] as [input]. The reason is, as you well know, [active signal] is a signal that has already been amplified to a high volt value. However, using a D.I box cancels out the high voltage. (More accurately, it is converted.) In other words, it cancels out the voltage and leaves only a small alternating current signal. As a result, it is done as a ‘passive signal’. Therefore, since the [active] signal coming from the subwoofer can be changed to a [passive] signal, it is possible to use the [crossover] with the [subwoofer] as the main signal. Of course, this has a serious drawback. 1. There must be a preamplifier (most stationary DACs these days are preamplifiers). 2. There must be a direct box (it must be a stereo direct box or 2-channel direct box, and the device must support pad -40db). 3. Various types of cables are needed. (Subwoofer->Direct box connection cable, Direct box->Power amplifier connection cable) I love these speakers, so I'm setting them up to get the best performance possible. The results of this challenge will probably come out in 2-3 days. Friends! Please support us so that we can achieve good results.

    Hello ! First of all thank you for this video, it's very informative, thank you for your work 😇 I have a question, is the overall audio quality always at the same level with an external amp? Because I sent mine back a week ago because of this hiss and the repeated auto on/off I didn't know there was an update to do... I really liked the quality of these speakers, but once you count everything in my home (in Belgium) you get to +/- 500€ if you count the speakers + the amp + cables 🥲 I'm starting to wonder if it's not a good idea to switch to something more substantial, because if I take the Klipsch R-50M for 300€ and an amp I fall more or less into the same or even cheaper prices, and I wonder if there is a significant performance gap or not 🤔 Well, it's safe to get a range without subs, and with speakers that are much bigger on the desk, but wouldn't it be worth it? I wonder what to do in between Sorry for my English, I use google trad to be as fair as possible, I hope it's understandable! Thanks & have a good day ! ☺

    Hello! Thank you so much for the comment! And the translation is actually very good. No need to apologize! As far as the volume with an external amp, I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking, but you can definitely change the volume with the amp. However, what I do is leave the amp at the same level and adjust volume with the Mac using the Mac EQ software I show in the video. As far as cost, I completely understand and someone else pointed out the overall cost. It’s a hard decision. Personally, I wouldn’t want speakers any bigger on my desk, but there’s plenty of other people who have much bigger monitors/speakers and are completely happy. The R-50ms are very nice, and the RMS is 75watts so the Fosi should be able to power those with the smaller power supply it comes with which gives around 70watts RMS. There’s an upgraded power supply at 48-volts that will put the Fosi closer to 150 watts RMS but I don’t think you’d necessarily need to do that. There’s also other compact amps out there, I just don’t know much about that as I haven’t done any research. If I went that route, I’d still be afraid that I’d miss a subwoofer. Let me know what you end up doing and I hope I answered your question!

  • @Ajrs24

    @Ajrs24

    9 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the answer ! 😇 I understand and agree about the size of the speakers on the desk... I also saw that the R-50M were not the best choice for a desktop setting, they are better once placed at 2m and more, and without the subwoofer it's true that it loses dynamics and impact, so I don't think I'll go for that 😅 So I don't know if I'm going for the klipsch promedia 2.1 thx or the heritage, considering that i don't need an amp for the 2.1thx I'm a big fan of the sound of the heritage, but apart from the look, purely audio-wise, is the difference worth it? I know you talk about it in the video but without considering the look I would like to have your opinion 😁

  • @BuenoReviews

    @BuenoReviews

    9 ай бұрын

    @@Ajrs24 so a couple of things. A) not everyone has the hiss issue with the Heritage from what I’ve researched. You could always buy one from a retailer that has a good return policy and see if you’re lucky. B) The THX sounds REALLY good. What you won’t get is as wide of a sound stage, and there’s a TINY bit less clarity and instrument separation. But overall it’s an amazing value. When I first listened to them before I got the Heritage, I thought “wow, these are only $120??” This biggest difference I noticed is in the sub. While the THX sub is adequate, it’s not nearly as clean as the sub on the heritage. It feels like the crossover is not tuned very well. If you crank up the sub, it definitely sounds muddy and not nearly as precise. It’s still good! It’s just, when comparing it to the Heritage, I’d say it’s around 70-75% of what the heritage sub is. Overall, I’d say the THX is about that as well in terms of overall quality vs the Heritage - 70-75% Finally, consider your living situation. If you’re in an apartment or share a wall with someone else, you’ll likely not be able to crank the sub anyway, so besides the look, the THX might be perfect! All that being said, I do think bang for buck, the THX system is a better system in regards to value. But I’d still recommend the Heritage for those who love the look and are down to tweak their setup if need be. Hope that helps!

    Hey there! I’m not familiar with the amp you have, but as long as the wattage output and connections are similar to the amp I have, you should be fine! Also, you might not need an amp at all! Some people don’t have the issue with hiss like I did. If the hiss isn’t there, you’re good to go out of the box! Also, if there is a hiss, it might not even bother you.

    Hello and thanks for the awesome video! As a long-time Klipsch fan, I wanted something similar in my workplace. And of course I encountered all the same problems that you describe. Yesterday I received bt20a pro and was able to test this setup. I have to say that I didn't experience any problems with hiss when using the Sound Blaster X4, but the clicking sound when playing quiet scenes and the sound cutting out was very upsetting. Yes, bt20a pro solves this problem 100%. But overall, the system sounds much worse to me than using the original amp. The problem seems to be with the bt20a pro - if I only connect the subwoofer to the X4 and the Fosi pre-out, the difference is enormous, as if the Fosi is transmitting much less sound or cutting it off. Does your subwoofer sound exactly the same through Fosi as when connected directly or is there a difference too? P.S. I'm sorry for my English, I'm from Moscow, so this is a Google translation and a few manual edits)

    It’s ok! Our English is great. To be honest, there is a bit of a difference but not that much. It’s maybe a LITTLE less clean getting the signal from the Fosi pre out, but not much at all. Did you make sure to turn the volume and the bass level almost all the way up? I have both one click below max on the Klipsch sub using the remote.

    Thanks for the answer! Yes, of course I turned up both volumes. And I did some more tests. I tried connecting my Klipsch RW-12d to Fosi and the results weren't great either. Without a crossover, it makes no sense to me; the sound does not correspond to the original one. And then I tried this, I connected my main Yamaha AVR and was simply shocked. The sound is detailed and correct so much that it is simply 10 times better than the built-in amplifier and Fosi. Now I won't be able to go back. I didn't expect this system to sound so incredible. I heard a lot of details that I had never heard before. Now I’m thinking about what to do next, maybe I’ll look for a used amplifier for the workplace, maybe even convert the subwoofer into a passive one. Lots of space for creativity.@@BuenoReviews

    Yes, I'll tell you what I come to in the end. In fact, my task is a little more complicated :) I want to be able to output audio from PS5 and MAC to the same speakers at the same time. PCM2704 is used for optical output of sound from PS5, then the signal can be mixed through soundblaster x4 with MAC sound, which natively supports this sound card. I think that now all I have to do is find a suitable amplifier that will allow me to fine-tune the sound in detail and will take up less space than my Yamaha.@@BuenoReviews

    What did I come to in the end? I'm buying my second big Yamaha amp. The difference in sound is so great that there is no desire to go back to the Fosi or the built-in amplifier. If you have the opportunity to test this, I highly recommend it, you will be very surprised at the difference in sound. The amplifier should have 2 subwoofer outputs - this will allow you to get excellent and controlled low frequencies. Just front pre-out is not enough here.@@BuenoReviews

    @@dylanwalker9889 what Dylan said. The first thing I’m assuming is your volume and/or sub level is low on the Klipsch. Remember, you’re now using two amps in your setup - one for your satellite speakers (Fosi) and the internal amp for your sub. Use your Klipsch remote or the physical knobs behind the sub to adjust sub volume. You’re half way there! You need another 3.5mm to rca cable. There is a line out 3.5mm on the Fosi, so you take that to the RCA inputs on the back of the Klipsch sub and you’re good to go! Then, it has a 3.5mm line out that I connect to the Klipsch sub (well, first I connect it to the volume knob I added and then connect THAT to the sub).
