Thanks fro all of your time in getting this documented. I wonder if KIAUH would work on this, you could should be able to add Fluidd to the install quickly and have both available

Thanks Dave, Kiauh is on my list of things to look at, I like that TV box idea you sent me.

Kiauh loads and runs but it doesn't seem to be able to operate properly for some reason. It will botch the whole install.
Great video man! I still got a Fly CDY v1 sitting around that I never did anything with.

Nice this is really helpfule for not only those who you cant get there hands on a raspberry pi but also for those looking for a cleaner solution by using only "one" board in there printer. I just ordered an orange pi for $40 and was able to order a raspberry pi for just $10 over MSRP. Now I just gotta wait for them to get here so I can compare them. The only thing I dont like about this type of board is that you cant, atleast currently, install your own OS which hoepfully that changes in the future.

If you do a part two on this (and I hope you do) add a TFT or other screen to your config. I'm partial to working with my printer in this fashion and I would be very interested in having that as an option. Thanks for the update.

Hello friend, i am sorry for the inconvenience, we found that klipper was updated when we compiled the system, which caused the system to not support the screen, now we are updated the new system, you can download system image to try again, thanks
Just ordered 5 of these! Gonna put Klipper on all my printers!

I could not find any documentation on it, but I am assuming you could add a second (third, fourth, etc.) board via usb attached to the "PI" side if the board to add more drivers.
@deathcube2006

The can bus is better for that, just add a new mcu with the steppers and pinout configs
@ChrisRiley

Yes you could, but as @deathcube stated, they make some inexpensive can boards that are really easy to use.
for the little pins you can get them from fpv deones, the esc aio have one with up to 8 pins

Chris, have you seen the new RasPi CM4 substitute board BTT designed for use with the Manta? The also make a carrier board for it that gives it the RasPi 4B+ form factor for about $50.

I don't have either to test. I would get in touch with Mellow 3D and make sure they are currently supported.
As for the lack of drivers, since this is all for the use of Klipper, you can setup a secondary MCU (even a RAMPS board) in your config file.

It was a Christmas gift from my mother in law. I don't know where she got it.
do you know how to access the fluidd ui by hostname? I can access via ip but I haven't been able to connect with the hostname like my other printers
@ChrisRiley
Жыл бұрын
I should work the same, hostname.local but I don't know that I have ever tried it. It could be an issue with how fluidd is configured.
aren’t those small connectors 2mm JST? Same as the connector on the creality stepper motors. I made those when I rebuilt my former ender3 last winter, even used silicon insulated wires. As for the board itself I really don’t understand the point of only putting 4 stepper drivers on it. As far as I am concerned, these days 3d printer boards should come with 5 or 8 stepper drivers. I think it would be cheaper to have 5 drivers on this board than having to design and build an expansion board. Still loved the video and look forward to the next one.
@3DMELLOWPrinter

hello friend, duo to the size factor and also if we put more drivers on it, it may change chip too, so that is this board design, thank you
@ChrisRiley

Thanks! Those are 1mm pins, they are very small.
Been using this board for a bit now in a V0.1 installation (Siboor kit from AliEx came with it) but I have had a recent issue with the latest moonraker update causing issues. I'm no Linux expert so I can't say exactly what goes wrong, thankfully this video guided me on re-installing the FLY-OS so I can get my printer going again. Hopefully someone will be able to figure it out for this board. One helpful note, you can select the Klipper UI by editing the FLY-Config.conf file in the Boot drive, both are preinstalled. ^.^
@ChrisRiley
Жыл бұрын
Hey Kit, interesting, with all of these coming out I anticipate issues like this popping up. Thanks for reporting it. Good to know about the Klipper UI, I will check that out.
Thank you for all of your awesome content. I can't tell you how many times your video's have helped me with my printers. You seem to be really good with klipper / linux stuff. Do you know how you can update klipper, mainsail, moonraker on this board? I tried it and it totally botched everything. Luckily I thought to image my sd before trying the updates.
@MidMadn
Жыл бұрын
I was able to update everything right in klipper with just adding a few lines to my moonraker config. It was KIAUH that botched my klipper install previously. Don't use KIAUH with this board.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm glad you got it figured out!
I've ben using gemini 1.0 for a while and no issue so far, also got a v2 recently, docs are ok, and have it working with they TFT 35 .

Nice, great to hear!
Will this allow for controlling additional printers from the USB ports?
@ChrisRiley
Жыл бұрын
I think you can use it just like any other pi, so I would say you could probably set it up that way.
Very interesting. I would like to use Klipper but I have been waiting for something like this board. But mostly I have been waiting for someone to try the BTT M4P - CB1 board. So far no one has shown any interest in trying this board. I’m 88 y/old so in no way able to undertake trying it without help. This board does look promising, so I’ll wait to see you install it on a printer. And keep hoping some one will try the MP4 -CP1 combo. Thanks for all your helpful videos.

Thanks, stay tuned
sorry if this is a dumb question, but does the sd card for linux have to stay in the board after installation?
@ChrisRiley

No worries, yes it does, Linux runs off it.
Can you tell me which version of the board this is? I got one but it's a version 3 and seems to be different from the one you have.

It's for switching from open to closed loop steppers.
I just double checked while using this video to install the board... the switch on the bottom of the FLY2209 drivers disables the diag pin. No need for cutting it with these drivers.

Mellow are a great company imho. You can smell the nerd sweat when you open the box, built in stlink! . I like yellow ducks, but the little thoughtful touches like giving you the jst's instead = excellent and swappable mosfets..brilliant.

@SianaGearz

I wager a guess, the feature may have been requested because other boards particularly Geeetech love blowing up their FAN MOSFET, being some Si230x clone, sot23-6 variety, really tiny and wimpy. Maybe also shorts, inductive kick from fans, these sorts of things. I don't anticipate it being necessarily wimpy here, and it looks like it'll be fine with a variety of 8-pin N-ch. Plugging a TO220 one right instead of the daughterboard isn't going to work unfortunately, it looks like gate is the middle pin, but i can see why they laid theirs out how they did, to make it not matter which way around you plug it in, because they're swapping the two outer pins between sides. Or maybe they just ran out of layout space.
Looks like a cool board, but I won’t be running kipper any time soon.
@ChrisRiley
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Sergio, I hear ya!
I love how manufacturers are doing this to help us out with the Pi shortage, but only 4 drivers? I feel that’s a little bit optimistic in todays world. The absolute MINIMUM number of driver ports should be 6, but in reality it should be 6-8. 4 just doesn’t make a lot of sense these days
@ChrisRiley
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your insight
make without -j runs single child process. With -j you can compile quicker, by spawning several in parallel. Sometimes you don't want to do that because the stderr output of the compiler processes can get tangled in between each other as they come from different processes, so if you have to read warnings or errors, you're well advised not to use -j. It obviously doesn't make much sense to push more than 4 on this quadcore ARM, nor do you necessarily need to get stingy and run fewer because this board has enough RAM.

They need to make a bigger version with the missing stepper slot, and double the memory. I would then use the board.

Then i guess you can build your own. I won't be deterred if the board lands in my lap, i like doing that sort of thing anyway. Fundamentally i have no distrust towards the company, i'd just do it for other reasons, because once i understand it, i don't need to care about abandonment or somesuch, i like actually owning rather than renting my hardware.
