A Bit on the Video:
I decided to kick off my interest publically in network engineering, I thought I'd do a review on all the tools I use for making RJ45 ethernet cables!

I use one of these for toning, testing, etc. every week and it has saved me so much time. Been in the low volt trade for a couple years now and it really makes a difference with the right tools.

Do you know if they make map remotes for 20-48? I just finished an install for an office remodel, and nothing was labeled. Would have been nice to just plug the n 48 remotes, and identify all the wall ports, instead of doing 19 at a time.

Thanks Man! Picking UO these tools tomorrow for a job that came up. Wasn't sure if they were a gimmick or not, but now I'm convinced. Great Content

One thing you didn't mention was that you can change which pins are being toned. In your example you pushed the signal over all the wires which might have impacted the tone range. From my testing it appears that sending down pins 4 & 5 together provided a stronger signal at the end of a 74 ft cable. You can also use other brand tone probes with the cable tester, I already had a Fluke probe which picked up the signal.

I use this set of tools, Dey do fail a bit but overall, it good for it price, my boss use fluke network and expensive collections of fluke network, but for someone on budget, this is pretty good enough

Just a FYI the Hub feature is to help you ID cables that are plugged into a switch etc because you cant tone them if they are plugged in. Thanks for the video though :)

Yeah I wondered wtf he was doing with the toner 😂. Klein has a pretty decent setup for the money. If I money to throw away I’d probably go with the fluke networks stuff, but with what the Klein stuff does I can get by just fine.

here is a question , if one end of the rj45 is faulty or crimped wrong , will it say on what side ?

  • @CoolstuffTF2

It will not tell you the side it's faulty on, but it will tell you what pair(s) are crossed though.

It will tell you by the numbers. So the top list of digits is what it should be, the bottom is what yours are (the ones you or someone else made) aka faulty if there is one. They should match the top.

As far as I'm tracking it's not "what it should be and what it is" the top is the top plug and the bottom is the bottom or remote plug when reading the layout

Those pass through crimpers never cut the wires fully. Always the w/o and brown
