I thought the whole point of kits was to avoid unnecessary trips to the tool box or truck. Proprietary tools just makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Imagine explaining to an apprentice on what tool you want him to retrieve.
The new Milwaukee micro driver is also a 3.5mm. I wonder if everyone is going to start switching to 3.5mm.

Is it 1/2….. 3/8…. 1/4… 4mm? Or should it be 1/8 bit size. 3.5mm lol.

lol someone should sell a jig for grinding bits to size with a dremel or some shit. I don't like the ratcheting stuff because it all breaks. Screw it. Fall into the need a new screwdriver trap. They want a fucking subscription model, the leaderships thinks they are so smart now, that they can make everything a subscription. And just get a little drill from makita, that holds any hexagon or rod, has torque limiting too. just use electricity instead of falling into some clicky-trap. Those little drills are so small now its almost a screwdriver without the stupid cost addons. Like I will just use a fucking motor if you think that you can have me fall into some 1960's spring based shit... those sub compacts are SO good. And for the tiny form factor... those little pen lithium ion battery drills are good, but beware, fragile as FUCK. one 3 foot drop and its toast.... but the basic model without any features (wowstick) is good

@@wurlabyscott the difference in size is marginal at best. I've literally never seen a situation where one works and the other wouldnt.
Great video, as usual. Keep up the good work mate.
Cool how they stack like that. Thanks Dom
My reason for not getting the precision set was I already have an ifixit kit, but this helps reinforce my decision. Thanks!
That precsion set worked wonders on some fire alarm stuff this week. Highly recommend to other sparkys out there!
I would rather have a metric only set of those flip sockets as i never use SAE plus that metric only would hopefully make the cases close to the same size as the rest
Homie don’t play that.
The other flip socket Klein stuff is somewhat proprietary, but it really seems like it’s *better*, *unavoidable*, and they use standards when they can. Like that adapter you want a spare of. It does have a proprietary stat, but it also accepts 1/4” and 3/8” square. They didn’t do weird things “just because”. I have a set of Wiha 4mm bits that I got over 20 years ago. The ModBox system isn’t great enough to make me forego backwards compatibility.
I'm upset, and not just a little BIT! Hah get it? I was literally looking for a bit set like that... but not that one! Even the ratchet only takes the proprietary bits? You didn't even teake it out of frustration!

Hey Dom I know you have been testing out the Tale of knives mini bandit 2.0. I was wondering if you was going to make a full review video of it. I have looked and can't find any full reviews of the 2.0. If you do can you please show if the leatherman rachet driver would fit in the pen slot
3.5mm bits in a holder fit into plastic injection molded screw head wells, the 4mm ones in holder do not.
@jasonadams2684
4 күн бұрын
That’s a good enough reason why I’d buy them I don’t know how many times I’ve gone to use bits and they don’t fit in the well and when most of my screwdrivers are insulated and don’t fit either this solves that problem great idea in my opinion
Gotta do what you gotta do bro.
Klein needs to make a 4mm Precision Driver Set now.
does klein sell individual replacement sockets/bits?
The whole series of mod boxes are proprietary... you loose or break anything and Klein will make a pretty dollar for replacement.
So… the 3.5 mm aren’t even loosely compatible with the 4mm? Seems like everything would be compatible from 3.5mm male going to 4.0mm female right?
@maxlvledc

its quite loose in 3.5mm. the bigger issue is getting replacement bits for 3.5 when 4mm is everywhere.

@@cdrom1070 well… That also isn’t a new thing. It goes back to the “right to repair” laws put in place during the first half of the last century. I see it’s not exactly the same these days but I take your point. 🤷🏻♂️
Actually, I don't think Klein has ever made 4mm bit sets. I've had one of their older precision sets (32717) for a few years, and it's definitely 3.5mm like this one.

You are 100% CORRECT on the 3.5mm bits. It’s BS.
Think generic, it create solutions.
The 3.5mm game Klein is playing totally stops me from buying their micro bit sets. What are they going to make next - 🤡A 5/16" square driver set🤡
yeah that 3.5mm SUCKS! and NOT a fan of ball-detent bits either the handle should be responsible for holding the bit there's that little groove in short bits & that big hollow in the longer bits the handle should have some kind of locking mechanism and/or magnet then there's magnets... I've been having older magnets de-chrome and then they turn to magnetic dust NOT a fan of magnets anymore
@cdrom1070

they want you to pay a tax with their product. you pay more for the thing you commonly lose and never maintain (lubricate,clean... bits??!). the driver you might maintain. that means it might last a while. this means that the company will not get tax from you. you see the bit is perfect for getting wet when you work on wet shit, so the spring rusts away. if you think magnets are bad, their 100x better then springs. i sit all those cup things upright and pour oil in em every year it took a genius burglar to figure out how to make something as fucking solid and reliable as a drill bit have a weak point in the form of a tiny low quality spring. you see watson, they want to turn a screw driver into a printer ink cartridge
@cdrom1070
25 күн бұрын
and for repairing magnets, just drill it out a bit and glue in a magnet with loctite prism glue (meant for magnets) after you clean it out in the ultrasonic and dry it off good
Let's be real...this is Klein's attempt at making a proprietary hand tool ecosystem, so that you're attached to your sunk cost and convenience like a battery platform.
is anyone getting paranoid that manufactuers are focusing on the 'satisfaction' of actuating a mechanism vs the actual function, form and quality of the tool recently? I think those videos that always brag about the 'click' or whatever being 'satisfying' and being a sign of quality? Like, I noticed they are using soft materials and playing all sorts of physics games to give it some kind of 'toy' satisfaction... but it has nothing to say about the durability of the mechanism, and usually it involves cheap poorly tempered low quality rust prone springs. I almost feel smart now, when evaluating a tool, to list any thing related to good tactile sensation for 0.1 seconds as a con, because it seems engineered at a detriment to other features. Kind of like soft grips used to be, we know now basically it turned into a rancid shit storm (seriously, it decays and smells like bodily things). the next generation of tool repair is going to be like fucking dentists fixing cavities with springs in them, instead of coating experts. IMO say NO to this CRAP. I am not saying something like low vibration or good ergonomics, I mean literarly when people talk about the "click". I heard people talking about those clicks like their addictive too, meaning companies want to push it. Like OK, so we add dampers now for no god damn reason other then to make you happy for 0.1 seconds and then rage when it breaks and your out 50$. Lets also put plastic in it for no reason other then to mellow out the mechanism that you deploy once a month. yeah i wanna pay for that. How about I save the money on the tools, and buy a toy for myself to satisfy any mechanical related urges. I don't need a fidget spinner stress toy in my basic hand tools... seriously I feel like im getting ripped off by this shit
