    Judaism and Christianity is a bit like Astronomers and preppers. They're both aware of the same dangers, but one side is more focused on the physical while the other is on the ethical. They're not in conflict, but 2 sides of the same coin. Islam on the other hand is trying to banish the coin altogether and go back to the idyllic life of bartering and childlike adventure.

    @@l.patrick2171 Well research has a chance of being biased and flawed, and you people never EVER consider the possibility that those religions borrowed from Christianity. Why? Simply because the world hates it. For example, there are some striking similarities in Islam and Christianity....but can we accuse Christianity for allegedly 'stealing' from Islam. No, right? Why? Cos Islam originated 600 years AFTER Christianity. And this is not only one. There are more bad objections (and it is a common one) regarding this 'borrowing' issue. Some say Jesus was borrowed from pagan myths. Some say Genesis was borrowed from Babylon pagan legends. Some say Jesus prayed to a pagan god, and the list goes on.... And someone who says those stuff probably don't know much or haven't studied Christianity... And regarding the sun issue, there's a possibility that C.S Lewis knew Irish cults since he was an Irish. It's easier to argue when you don't know much about Christianity and accuse someone who ACTUALLY knows the REAL history of Christianity rather than carefully research the evidence, take in the accusations safely and come to own conclusion. Note - If you are interested Mr. Patrick, I hope we could have an honest and friendly conversation about this. Now I don't know MUCH about Irish cults and their ancient beliefs and traditions, and if you know some, teach me. AND I DEMAND YOU TEACH ME AT ONCE, ok sorry, lol.

For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath No form nor comeliness ; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a men of sorrows , and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our grief , and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was all . He was oppressed , and he was afflicted , yet he opened not his mouth : he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter , and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openers not his mouth. He was taken from prison From judgment: and who shall declare this generation? For He was cut off out of the land of the living: for he was cutting off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence , neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him ; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin he shall see his seed , he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul , and shall be satisfied : by His knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many ; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore Will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the spoil with the strong ; because he hath pored out his soul unto death : and he was numbered with the transgressor ; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Well that’s ok, I took the opposite path from Christianity to conversion to Judaism. Judaism is not always an easy religion to love, but the G-d of Israel is my rock and my redeemer, and I follow where He leads me. Sometimes I think He is less concerned with the labels and more concerned with placing you where you’ll receive what you need for spiritual growth.

    Here’s why Christianity is the logical next step after Judaism: 1) God created the universe and created man in His image. This is the first step to our relationship with God. (Family with God) 2) God creates woman. This is the first step to our relationship with each other. (The human family) 3) God makes a covenant with Noah. This is the first step to reconciliation with God. 4) God makes a covenant with Abraham. This is the first step to creating a people of God. (Many people, one family) 5) God makes a covenant with Moses, which is fulfilled in Joshua. This is the step toward God making a nation of God, which is where we get God’s CHOSEN people, and essentially when Judaism is built. 6) God establishes a Kingdom with David, and a priesthood (the step toward maintaining both a nation, which is the perpetuation of human relationships, and a priesthood, to perpetuate the relationship between God and man.) 7) God becomes incarnate in Jesus Christ and establishes a new Church and a new covenant to mediate between God and man, thereby closing the gap between man’s kingdom and God’s Kingdom. For this reason, the chosen people of God are those who would follow in the Church established by Christ, just as God created man, family, covenant, nation, kingdom, priesthood, and Church. Just as God told Moses to slaughter a lamb, eat it, and cover the entrance of their homes with its blood, so too must we take and eat the slaughtered Lamb of God, His Son, reflected in the sacrifice of Abraham’s son, with a ram taking Isaac’s place, Jesus takes our place, and becomes the Passover lamb. This is the connection we have of being FORMERLY the Jewish people, now fulfilled as Christian people, no longer only a family, a nation, or a Kingdom, but a UNIVERSAL people, spread throughout the entire world, being prepared to enter into the Kingdom of God.

    Read his memoir, The Great, Good Thing. But I think growing up I was convinced that someone had to first know the name of Jesus before they could come to know Jesus, but I now don't believe that's exactly true. In Romans 1:20 Paul describes how it's possible for even distant pagans to reason from creation itself that there is a God, and to know something of his nature. I believe that's the path Andrew Klavan describes following. God can work through his created work, through his spoken words, and through the Living Word that was embodied by Jesus' earthly ministry. After all, wasn't creation itself made by the Word of God? How is that not a path to Christ through Christ?

    @@TheHumphreysMinistries This clip is titled KLAVAN: Why I Left Judaism for Christianity. As the fundamental difference between these two faiths is the person of Jesus of Nazareth and His claim to be the Christ, Son of the Living God; the savior of the world. It would seem impossible to answer this question without reference to Him. In answer to the Romans reference. Paul starts with the general and then moves to the specific. Yes, everyone has a knowledge of God so none will have excuse on judgment day. As James states, even the demons believe and shudder. But God sent His Son to show us the way to know God, as fully as we are known. How can we know someone if we never met them? Romans 10:14: How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone telling them?

    Andrew Klavan lets be honest, you were never in authentic Judaism. According to your bio, you came from a "secular" Jewish family, which basically means you learned Jewish tradition without the spirituality. You never experienced true religious, spiritual Judaism. You left "secular Judaism", to become an agnostic before converting to Christianity. IF you had converted to Christianity from one of the Orthodox spiritual streams of Judaism, you would know much more about it, had really experienced traditional Judaism, and could actually say you "left" Judaism for Christianity.

    Well said. You won’t easily find people who lived an authentically Jewish life, who truly delved into its meaning and foundation, and then converted to Christianity. Not that they don’t exist. But it’s quite uncommon. There are many Jewish people who stopped practicing Judaism and gave it up, or converted due to finding acceptance and community. But it’s not common for people who’ve been immersed in Jewish life to convert to Christianity based on philosophical reasons. So all those hoping that Ben will do the same, it’s highly unlikely.

Some of the harshest criticisms of Israel's wickedness in the Bible is found in Isaiah. Against that, is another Servant Who is righteous enough to bear the sins of the world.He is called Israel, and yet is seen as being distinct from Israel, and alongside Israel. His worldwide effect is marked by being the light of the Gentiles, bringing Jehovah's salvation to the ends of the world, bringing many to righteousness, bringing healing to the nations, being an astonishment to the Gentiles for His suffering for our sins. This is describing, not the general righteous of Israel, but One, the most righteous of Israel, King Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth. I grew up Roman Catholic, but I am more traditionalist than my family and most of the people around me. I think intellectually like Klavan, and searched around for more traditionalistic sects of Christianity from 18 to about 22 or 23 (im 26 now). What brought me back to Roman Catholicism is 1- I believe in the Corporal Works of Mercy, as you can be extremely devout spiritually but if you do not do acts of mercy towards others then you are committing sins of omission and you are not contributing to the betterment of society. 2- I believe in free will (contra to predestination), and especially follow Christ's phrase of "when you fast do not look downtrodden and disheveled to show that you are fasting" and the readings of Wisdom "Do not say: 'He himself has led me astray,' for he has no need of the wicked.". 3- I believe that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is not solely whom we must implore to converse with Jesus and God, but we can converse with them directly, but Mary is considered the Queen of Heaven and is above the saints and angels.

    You Can’t Handel the Truth OR Can you Handle the Truth 4 REASONS YOU SHOULD NOT PRAY TO MARY 1. THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR 1 Timothy 2:5 says, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity-the man Christ Jesus. This confirms we don’t need a “go-between.” We don’t need a middle-man (or woman) beyond Christ. When Jesus died, shed His blood, and was raised from the dead the need to have someone (e.g. high priest) represent us was ripped away just like the curtain that tore from top to bottom. 2. GOD ALONE SHOULD BE WORSHIPPED Luke 4:8 says, Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’” Praying to Mary and/or any living or deceased saints is an act of worship…which is reserved for God alone. When Jesus modeled prayer (Matthew 6:7-13) He began with, “Our Father in Heaven.” No where in Scripture is it suggested that we pray to Mary or any other deceased saints. 3. MARY WORSHIPPED JESUS AS GOD In Acts 1 the disciples and about 120 believers were in an upper room waiting for the promise of the Holy Spirit (at Jesus’ command). Guess who was present with them? Mary. What was she doing? Praying. Acts 1:14 says, They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus. It’s important to note that the apostles weren’t praying to Mary as a go between. She was joined with them in prayer…to GOD. 4. MARY WAS A SINNER IN NEED OF A SAVIOR According to Psalm 51:5 we are all born as sinners in need of a Savior, Mary included. Mary was highly favored, not sinless. There is not one scripture to support that Mary was without sin. JESUS is the only one who never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 4:15, 1 Peter 2:22) which explains why Mary had to be impregnated by the Holy Spirit. Extras • The Bible is about JESUS, after all Jesus is the Living Word (John 1:14). The Old Testament points to JESUS. The New Testament is about Jesus. The authors of the four Gospels saw JESUS as the central figure and only mention Mary in reference to JESUS. The word “Jesus” is mentioned 1,478 times in the New Testament. The word “Mary” is only mentioned 55 times and some of those are in reference to Mary Magdalene. Also, Jesus is referenced in 26 of 27 New Testament books. • Mary can’t hear you. Only God can hear all of our prayers as He is the only one omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. • Mary was not even recognized in Scripture as a leader in the early Church. Peter is the one who stood up, addressed the crowd, and preached in Acts 1, not Mary. • JESUS is the only Way, Truth, and Life. No one can come to the Father, except through JESUS. • The TRUE second commandment: Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me You Can’t Handel the Truth OR Can you Handle the Truth 4 REASONS YOU SHOULD NOT PRAY TO MARY 1. I've often thought the same about Peterson's take on things, but I have to also give him credit for broaching the subject in a way that makes it more relatable to non-religious people. The way he broke down the bible and other mythologies made them make sense on an intellectual level that didn't require faith.... and therefore made them much more approachable to people who are outside the faith. I like to think of his bible series as a gateway to understanding that shows people the way. It gets them started on the path, but isn't the destination.

    Let's hope that like Klavan, and I believe, soon to follow Peterson, you also will have a crisis of faith, and must make a choice. You have it backwards. In the Bible the destination is what is important. The problem is getting lost on that path you mention. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." Matthew 7:13

And to top that off, you actually wished that I would have a "crisis of faith", which is a bad thing, so that through my suffering I might come to understand. It's that kind of attitude that drives people away, and exactly the opposite of what Peterson has accomplished with his series.

  • @threeriversforge1997

    @threeriversforge1997

    @@cosmic0076 I'm not saying that you can't arrive at faith through "something else", but that far too often people are turned off faith from the outset because they look at it with what they believe is a logical eye. Peterson's work helped me to see through my own ignorance, not knowing facts or bringing up trains of thought I'd never considered. Because of that, my thought on religion is no longer as short-sighted as it once was. A lot of the atheists I've met are very angry at religion, and sometimes for good reason. They might have asked the questions when they were little, but they got answers that were much like "Lili Tincher" said above. Wishing someone to have a "crisis of faith" so that they would understand... even when they don't understand themselves and couldn't be bothered to actually think outside the dogma. That is so very off-putting to people that it's no wonder the churches have seen a decline in membership over the years if paritioners act like that.

  • @cosmic0076

    @cosmic0076

    @@threeriversforge1997 Look I agree with you. But at the end of the day true faith sounds like something which requires you to abandon all logicale. And that's what that guy means when they're saying a crisis of faith. I'm similar to you, very open minded and so when someone like JP comes along and investigates christianity and the biblical texts the way he does, it's educational, informative and perhaps makes me rather appreciative. I've even started to come to the conclusion that I may do believe in God, for instance I can't bring myself to say I don't believe in God, and in times of hardship whether for myself or others I pray, as if it's a manifestation of my hope. It's my religious instinct turning to this force I believe in. Maybe? So even if it's off-putting, it doesn't mean that poster is wrong. Faith is a leap and rather irrational. It's more akin to a decision that you're going to live a certain way and that's that, in the way that I reject cynicism and talk that makes me a victim and that's that. It's a stand, it's a choice, but it's not logical, it's that there's no other way forward.

    There's a huge flaw in Klavan's religious testimony. 1) his parents practiced Judaism (somewhat) but admitted they didn't believe in it. 2) he thought that was dumb and empty 3) therefore Christianity So he's comparing a bankrupt caricature of Judaism with normal Christianity. Not a fair comparison at all. He never even encountered or investigated "believing Judaism" (like Ben) It's like comparing 2 restaurants by smelling the dumpster of one compared to the kitchen of the other

    Yes, I find it really disturbing. That's why I don't like when Ben Shapiro markets himself as an orthodox Jew - although I'm sure he follows the mitzvos, his approach to someone who abandoned the one true G-d, the G-d of our forefathers, is repulsive.

    @@anameichose8854 Klavan is saying the two people he mentioned (JP and Marcello Pera) want all of the benefits of God without having to accept the reasons leading to the reality of God's existence. In a syllogism, there are premises that lead to a conclusion dependent on the premises listed. It is a form of deductive reasoning. For example, Premise 1: A=B. Premise 2: B=C. Conclusion, therefore: A=C. So applied here, the conclusion is that the West has flourished under the Judeo-Christian belief system, so they want the good things of God. But they do not want the premises that lead to it, i.e. God exists, Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave to reestablish man's connection with God, conquering death, and giving us access to heaven -- a gift freely given that we cannot earn, which is grace. It is like wanting to eat a cookie because it's delicious, but rejecting the recipe and the steps you'd have to go through to make it. Hope this helps.

    @@anameichose8854 He is basically saying if you live as though there is a god without necessarily believing that there actually is a god, that you are living an inconsistent life, and therefore, your life philosophy is built on a less than rock solid foundation. If you live as though there is a god, but do not wholly give your life to God, then if there is a god, you will not have salvation in the end. If you do not fully believe in God, but live as though there is a god, then you are living an intellectually inconsistent life. It is basically the old story of wanting to have your cake and eat it too... but in this case it goes both ways. Of course, as a Christian, I believe that you can maintain intellectual integrity while having full faith in God, but some people are afraid to bridge that gap.

    Perhaps the most important point made here was when Klavan mentioned the persons who say, 'the west needs Judeo-Xty, but I myself cannot believe". Jesus taught-- and the rest of Scripture confirms-- that indeed without God's spiritually regenerating a dead sinner to new life, that dead sinner is incapable of belief, for believing is something that only the spiritually alive can do. Once regenerated, God gifts belief in Jesus as the Son of God and Saviour of those who come to Him to the reborn individual.
