If the shooting of TVD and TO wasn't at the same time, it could've happened. They tried to replace caroline with cami and tried to make them look perfect, they tried to make cami as bossy as caroline which didn't work out anyways. Klaroline was pure and epic.

I can't believe they didn't end up together just because the wanted to " keep Stefans memory alive" like what? Caroline is gonna live forever, the writers basically said that she is never gonna live again because originally Caroline and Klaus where gonna get together and move to Paris. Never say never. Remember when Nina said she only wanted to play Elena for 6 seasons but she came back for the season finale? It’s more a matter of a good plot and honestly… money. If he doesn’t have any offers, he could consider appearing at the very end of this show. I think his new show got cancelled, he is selling zoom calls which in my opinion is little desperate. He should just come back for few scenes, knowing how happy his fans would be.

But when she confronted him once more in the Originals and realized how much he had changed and grown, from a killer hybrid that that valued self preservation over anything, into a loving father that is willing to sacrifice himself for his daughters life, she knew this was a man she could love, and is devastated that she could never have that chance with him to have an epic love once again.
