What did they do for you exactly? I don't mind a neutral sound with some color to it if it's done well. I personally feel the Performer 5 is too colorful sounding, with the massive bass and shiny treble it has-- the upper mids don't have the shout I like from the Yume Ultra, and the smoothness there is also unnatural to me. Bass is also kind of sloppy with it's speed and note quantity, an issue I don't have with the Ultra because it doesn't really have a midbass boost (but I do have to use the upgraded version of the included tips to get better note weight and it's a very nice neutral sound at that point). I know the W1 tips for adding a touch of warmth to the upper mids, but I worry the enhancements to the stereo imaging might make the Quintet too stretched out (I like a balanced stage so long as the details are legible and nothing ever smears)

It’s interesting the way you described the Quintet. It makes me wonder about the cohesiveness of multiple/different drivers in these kinds of IEMs because you were describing so many different sound characteristics. I think the real challenge of these kinds of IEMs is creating a coherant sound that doesn’t highlight the strengths - or weaknesses - of each type of driver. Seems like the Quintet needs to work on this maybe? I have the Orchestra Lite and you are correct on everything you said about them. But sometimes I do want a more lively but not over-the-top sound so I listen to my Letshouer S12 Pro. Honestly, I think I prefer that sound more! 😊

Interesting. I was very excited about this initially because of HBB’s review and because I like the Cadenza, but I don’t hear this IEM the same way you do. I find it both bass-light and too bright with the stock cable and wide-bore tips. Had to put some Divinum Velvet tips and a pure copper cable on it to get to closer to what I’d call “neutral” and personally enjoyable. I haven’t heard the Quartet to compare, but if this is the bassier set, I know I wouldn’t like it.

Hi Dave, I have the Dunu Titan S and Legato. Like the both variations in the style, lying as they do in the opposite spectrum in sound signature. But if I were to now step up and get an IEM what would you recommend? A friend had suggested this Quintet or actually the Aful Performer 8 (which is supposed to be better and really terrific). That's nearly 400 dollars (equivalent in my country). That's end-game kind of budget for me. Is it that good (or any other IEM that you would recommend? If something is that sensationally good, then I can extend and do that kind of purchase. What would you recommend in the 200 to 400 dollars category that could change the game? (As an aside, I also heard good things about Simgot EM6L, in the budget territory. Have you heard that? ) Else, am happy to continue with my Titan S and Legato.

Got the Aful Performer P8 as they offered it for 90 dollars more than Quintet - and not 200. So that made my decision easier. You of course know, but making this comment for people like me dealing in 100$ IEMs, dithering about the mid-and-higher tiers. It’s an aural gourmet, once you jump from a sub 100$ category to mid-tier like Aful Performer 8. The lush crisply-clear tonals, the full-bodied texture of the music hits the eardrums first. Like a sun-drenched wave on a cold day. Without experience of other mid-tier IEMs, I would have to assume they cohabit with P8 in that sound-scape. And then the details that leap out; each sound wave emanating from an instrument is crystallised into delivering a ear-gasm and you genuinely hear stuff that the very good sub-100 IEMs hint at. Aural veil seems to clear up with P8, and you are in presence with pure music. Balanced, pure, natural sound - the mids are a stand-out highlight but the vocals aren’t pushed forward. They reside where they should be. The bass isn’t for bassheads, but it delivers the glide bass - that hit-and-linger that doesn’t bleed on. I personally am satisfied with this kind of bass feel, just enough to warm the mids and not too much to prevent the treble sparkle to weave its magic details. What it doesn’t have is wow-ing holographic soundstage; there is excellent vertical layeration, it feels realistically wide, cogent separation and a crystal clarity to various sounds whose details keep tumbling out lush-ly, but I suspect what some of the more holographic IEMs or even the lesser-priced Quintet offers - not quite natural but exaggerated soundstage isn’t here. If I buy another IEM, it would be to experience that. That can wait for months. Until then, will savour this P8.

It's a very interesting presentation of how it does that. Sadly the elevated upper mids, lower treble comes out too much with raised volume. Thanks for the comment and insight as a drummer.

I’m starting to realize as an audiophile who watches a lot of these reviews there are a lot of similarities to the wine hobby. As someone who also loves and collects wine, I often have to laugh at how ridiculously we describe all the nuances and attributes we all seem (sometimes, pretend) to understand. But to the rest of the 99% of the human population, everything we are picking apart and analyzing doesn’t make a difference to them. To them, it all sounds/tastes good! Gotta love these hobbies! 😂❤

The metallic sound is the 5 kHz resonance, not unique to balanced armatures. Truthear Zero has it, too.

Tuning, implementation of the BA and also different makers of BA make a difference. Not all BA IEM have the resonance at 5k. There are a lot of variables that effect it. Also resonances can occur at varying spots in the frequency range. Thanks for commenting.

@@TheHonestAudiophile right, I'm just saying I've been annoyed by the same thing in a dynamic driver set. Any sound like that will show in the frequency response and people shouldn't underestimate how small changes to the curves can result in very noticable sound changes

I fully believe you’re an honest person..however it comes across as ENTIRELY disingenuous to hear your exact same scripted ‘Linsoul..you rock’ etc. every video you produce. It’s so forced sounding. Even if you mean it and believe it. It just sounds pure shill! Be more spontaneous and extemporaneous with your presentation buddy and it’ll come across much more genuinely. That said, I always enjoy your actual reviews once I get past your pre-scripted lines..

So being consistent with every opening and being thankful for every product provided is disingenuous and being a shill?

@@TheHonestAudiophile I didn’t say I thought you were a shill. I said it simply doesn’t sound very genuine. It’s very scripted sounding. I could line up the clips in an audio processor and your pitch and cadence would be nearly identical wavelengths during each and every opening with each distributor you deal with. I, in fact, quite like your reviews and was simply offering my personal (albeit unwarranted) opinion/advice. Way to take it in stride tho 👋🏼👋🏼

@davidcoons89 you're missing the whole point of my introductions, it is to be consistent in giving credit where credit is due to the vendor or lender for providing the product for review. I don't want to show favoritism to anyone based on happiness or sadness in revealing who provided the product. Thanks for the feedback. Thanks for commenting. I'm glad you enjoy the channel content.
