I have been thinking about doing this for yeeeeeeears, but never felt brave enough to start taking apart that expensive piece of machinery. I think I may tackle it now!

This is gorgeous, what a great job you did choosing the color and finish! I was just looking at the Kitchen Aid website and they have beautiful ceramic mixing bowls. One of the white patterned ones would be a really pretty accessory for your machine. You've definitely inspired me to do mine!

I’m definitely going to paint my mixer! Yours turned out beautiful! I have a white mixer but I want to do a light muted color… either the light blue you did or a cream.

We don't have the sticker on the back on UK models but we do have a small plastic 'stopper' thing to protect the body when the head is tilted up. Great video you mixer looks great

So psyched I found this video!!! I have the same exact kitchen aid in shiney deep blue but mine is about 20 yrs old & it has paint chipped away & I hide it these days because it’s not an appealing piece anymore… it originally was my mom’s and at that time that deep blue was very popular and it looked really good… but now it needs an update and I’m so sick of caring it to and from the garage that I’m going to basically step-by-step follow your directions and I love the color!!! My kitchen is darker, so I’m thinking maybe more of a grayish matte…hmm… actually I do like the shine, especially with a dark kitchen how well do you think a glossy seal would hold up or look? If you ever read this, I don’t know Good for you for taking a risk & inspiring others like me! Stay tuned!

Moving and want to do this to my red mixer so bad! This turned out really lovely. The Joanna Gaines mixer is what I'd love to have but haven't found that color anywhere :(

Thank you! And I know, same. That's the look I really wanted, but I couldn't find the right spray paint. If you decide to go for it, I'd love to know how it turns out!

How has this held up a year later? I got a mixer for a great price on facebook marketplace, but the color is a little meh. Thinking about painting it. Curious how the spray paint has done after time and with use- it looks so good! And I love the color you chose.

Thank you! Overall the paint has held up nicely. There are a few spots where it's come off a bit, but I'm pretty sure that's because I store it in a cabinet and have banged it as I get it out of the cabinet, multiple times. If I did it over again, I probably wouldn't have painted the knobs. They've held up okay, but don't look as great as I'd like. Maybe going in with a better paint/primer would have been a better solution. I also wouldn't have sealed the bottom plate where the bowl goes just because of the constant moving of the bowl. Plus no one really sees it, so it's really no big deal. I hope that helps and good luck if you decide to paint your new-to-you mixer :)

ANY OIL, ALCOHOL, BUTTER, WD-40, MINERAL OIL, or alcohol will remove the adhesive from anything. But what you should have done is use a hairdryer to warm up the sticker with the adhesive and then remove it. You’d be able to reapply the sticker after that. I’m pretty sure with repainting your mixer in USA is voiding your limited lifetime warranty (whatever that limited warranty means).

Good point, I never thought about the warranty or reapplying the sticker. My mixer is over 10 years old and still going strong, so hopefully that continues and I don't have to worry about it!

Please help. I did the repainting job same as you, sanded and used primer then painted. As soon as I put it back together and tilted the tilt head the paint started scratching at the points where the two main parts meet. Also noticing lots of peeling from moving it around etc . Seems like the paint isn’t sticking. I used a clear coat as well but didn’t seem to prevent these scratches

I'm so sorry that's happening! While I've only done this once, I did watch some videos and did research before I did it and the only thing I can think of is, did you use a type of paint/primer/clear coat that is made for painting metal? Also I'm wondering how long did you leave the paint job to cure before using it?

I am asking several people the same question; along with my little trip to Catos, parking lot to purchase this new KitchenAid. I bought a new Kitchen Aid yesterday by a young man who works at Walmart. I bought this for $170 "brand spanking new!" Yes SirReeBob! With the box still taped up! His mother got 2 KitchenAids, 1 from her son & 1 from her husband. So, the young man put it up on fb Market place! And yes, I bought it! Now mind you, it is gray, not my cup of tea, so I want to paint it. My question is, before painting your mixer do you have to sand it? Can I paint it without sanding due to the color? Thank you

That's a great deal! I highly recommend you sand it if it's got any sort of sheen to it. The reason for sanding is to create a surface that is easier to for the paint to really adhere. However, you could use a really good primer prior to painting and a good sealer after to ensure you get really good adherence. Ultimately it's up to you, but I'd love to hear how it turns out after you finish it!
