Those look nice, too bad I used all my extra comms arms on other kitbashes. I'll be using Intercessors with Grenade Launchers and Scopes, with the larger box Launchers directly center of their power packs, keeping the Devastator scopes on the shoulder, and giving them antenna heads. I liked the way the Titans did their Dwsolators, but not that it cost the Devastator lens. I will try and stick the pods on the outside of the launcher boxes to see if they can be salvaged. Only so many Phobos Kits I can take apart for kitbashes, lmao.

I think if they were originally designed as gravis, with the poses reflecting the sheer weight of their guns, they’d be a lot more popular.
@gigapuddi

I agree, but I think the issue is that they didn't want to give them a gravis stat line tbh
@clinch4402

They would, but the guns would still be an absolute mess that drag them down. Altering the guns is a must for any desolation squad kitbash imo, everything else is secondary.

I still think their weapons would also need to be less "forward heavy". No matter how strong the power armor makes the marine, the base weapons just make it look critically off-balance. Not to mention it doesn't "read" as a rocket launcher in a manner we as a culture are all accustomed to. The problem was always that it wasn't carried on the shoulder, like older rocket launcher marines did.

@@gigapuddithej change the weapons. Have them brace them rather than holding them like pistols!
Exactly what this unit needed, makes them feel more unique than just “5 guys with rocket launchers”
It seems like everybody designs these guys better than GW did, but this take is by far my favorite. Well done.
The addition of ipads is pure genius. I can totally see them directing missiles from pads like a drone pilot!
I feel like it could be fun to take the 2 halves of the quad frag launcher, and put them under the arms of an intercessor, like underslung missile pods, the rest could go on the backpack.

Would love to see a sternguard veteran done for this chapter style.

Me too, and imo, they must be in a Mor Deythan style. Various options, every answer for every treat
Constantly humbled by the quality of the kitbashing and painting. I hope to be this skilled some day.
The best conversion for Raptor design and spirit I had ever seen. Thanks a lot. Superb.
Great video. If I ever make these guys, I think I’ll replace the sergeant’s bolt pistol with a phosphor pistol, that way he has a flare gun to help target moving enemies.
this is the best version of the Desolation Marines I ever seen. this kitbash is so good GW should make you kit bash the official
Id love to see you kitbash a raptors dreadnought/warsuit or to kitbash malum caedo
This is definitely an improvement on the original but i still like the shoulder mounted pose from the tactical squad the best. I would love to see a chaplain next.
The space marine mortar team look is a million times better
I like the position of the missiles. It gives an indirect fire vibe like javelin missiles.
That has to be one of the best sponsored segments I've seen.
Pure art, my friend. This interpretation of the unit makes so much more sense.
These raptor models are getting better and better!
I knew you of all people would have a tutorial on exactly what I was thinking for my raptors.
This is great take on the design! The big issue was always the scale of the guns compared to the intercessors. I still think it would of been better if they put in Gravis armor so the bulky armor makes up for the oversized weapons.
I’d have loved to have seen the launchers applied to the back pack horizontally with the target array screen on the opposite shoulder off centre of the marines head (as if they are able to look at it but without it blocking their vision of what is in front of them). Am I capable of doing that kind of kit-bash? Absolutely not. Part of the reason why it’s so enjoyable watching someone who is so skilled. Keep up the good work.
It’s so funny that the best way to alter Desolators is to either straight up remove the “rocket launcher machine guns” from their hands like this or just don’t field them at all.
I think a Raptors Dreadnought would be a nice addition.
I really like the idea of mounting the missiles on the shoulders rather than a rifle-style grip. I wonder how it would have looked if the two larger missiles were mounted to opposite shoulders.
This looks really good. In the same way terminators are in 'tactical dreadnought armour' its like these guys have 'tactical whirlwind' weapons
Yourself and the guy that makes terrariums sound so bloody similar.
Much better visually and more logical. Very Raptor-y.
These really are just superior in every way to the original designs
Very nice. Seems like a lot of work but the results are well worth it. The resulting silhouettes are very unique, and all the targeting tablets make their role clear.
The color scheme gives me Starbug vibes and I love it
Do you think you'll be doing a "Raptors on parade" soon? To show your progress on your army thus far?
I definitely feel if this was the original design, these guys would be beloved.
I'd go further to add a servo skull to act as a sort of recon drone that helps the Marine target the rockets/missiles even more accurately
Really cool. Much cooler than what I did which was just five intercessors with Horus heresy missile launchers
While cartoonish big guns is synonymous with Marines, backpack mounted artillery also sounds wildly 40k, harkening back to Cyclone Missile Terminators. I always imagined Intercessors with a normal shoulder slung rpg when I thought of a redesign of these guys. I like yours a lot too. Would make me consider grabbing a box.
No more t-shirt launcher guns! Great job of making this kit feel more unique.
Yours is by far the best looking in my opinion
This gives me a lot of ideas for a fun Crimson Fists force
Arguably the leader's single tube launcher looks better as a hand operated item. But I agree that the rest are much improved.
Love them! I've also seen other kitbashers rather neatly glom those awful launchers together the old devastator shoulder missiles and the horus heresy ones. They look almost 60 - 70% better!
Anything Raptors is just amazing to me! As is your skill...
I love it! I still think the guns are hanging off a tiny bit awkwardly from their backpacks, but I think I know what I will be doing for my guys.
I don't have the skills to do this with plastic and knife work, but this video has inspired me to recreate these almost perfectly for 3D printing. I love things that lean more into the Astartes being freakishly smart, so carrying around missiles to best calculate trajectories really hits that mark for me. Best reimagining of this unit by FAR.
Somehow I missed this vid but damn this look is perfect for my DA Risen force. Had the kit sat there since release thinking what to do to change them. Now I know.
Sweet jesus, didn't see this coming when I started watching. Amazing work.
You fixed that GW never did right in the first place. This must be the best conversion I have seen out there! Good work as always Pete!👍🏻
This is my second favorite desolation squad interpretation after what I did for my own. Primaris body, tactical rocket arms, cyclone launcher on the backpack. Done. 😂😂😂
I like it! For the ones that played Ground Control, it reminds me of the Templar torpedo infantry, but with the 40k aesthetic. Nice job!
It looks like if you put the castellan launcher on the top of the pods you could have some facing more forward for just some additional different poses. I might try that
You should add a dreadnought, but use the hours heresy dreadnought instead
After watching this again I'd love to see your take on a raptors techmarine and apothecary
This is maybe the third fourth time I've seen this video and honestly I think you actually did a better design, then the majority of the designs I've seen I've seen them do the left I've seen him do the middle but the right side actually seems a little bit acceptable. And with that I love your paint scheme for the Raptors.
This is one of my favorite conversions of yours. Such an improvement but done in a really immersive and believable way.
I love how goofy the giant boxes on their backs look
The only thing I think could improve this style of kitbashed desolation marines would be a couple on one knee as they launch a rocket or something. Maybe some heavy intercessor legs for a little extra grounded bulk.
They definitely should have designed them with over the shoulder weapons. This looks so much better
Great take on the squad, looks far better
they are literally perfect. youre insanely good.
This is EXACTLY the way I expected and was hoping for, but was left disappointed. This is how I am doing mine, also.
I really like the VLS approach and the 'Ipad' wrist computer look. Personally I don't think it even needs the smaller multi missile pack at all and some could even be carrying slung bolt carbines.
This conversion reminds me a lot of the conversions done to the old Tau XV88 broadside suits. Take a goofy/stupid looking original model and make it look cool.
Man, this is awesome. Like you mentioned, there have been a lot of takes of this ame concept, but I think yours is the most fitting I've seen for Raptors.
Very nice I could easily imagine these guys moving up behind a forward unit getting into position with their hands free to pull themselves over barricades and wreckage and maintaining cover as much as possible as their weapons fire and arch hitting the enemy hard.
Possibly the coolest take on these guys. You, sir, are a *genius*
I wouldve done the same thing with mine, but wouldve added some bits to the legs that could lock them down while firing like in the first iron man movie, when the robots started firing into the air
Really like this look, though I would've cut off the exhaust part of the backpack that the missiles are on the side of. Maybe added some type of gear hinge like the old tech marine backpacks have for their servo arms.
These look way better than the original models, GW take note of how to design models!
Wow these must be the first desolation marines I actually like! Good job!
Perfectly done. Been waiting to see these so I can have a go myself
Absolutely stellar work! Makes me actually want to pick up a set now!
That was possibly the best ad segment I've seen in a video! Also I've been loving this Raptor series, cracking kitbash :)
I’ve been able to scrape the wings off the chest plate and either leave the skull or remove it for use elsewhere.
Well done! The squad looks amazing!
Quite like the conversion the way it looks. I do wonder if the same thing could be done however rework the pods into more of a pistol instead of a secondary weapon to the primary launcher on the backpack.
I'd love to see how you would make some vehicles or even better a dreadnought fit your scheme.
I would have cut the launchers into two and put them where the vents where and reposition the vents, but these are awesome
this is my favorite take thus far on custom desolation marines. I especially like that you used the provided launchers instead of designing your own guns from the ground up. It makes these feel more real in the context of the game since you're not breaking away and designing something wholly original. This instead feels like something that is perfectly feasible for a chapter to have actually done in-lore, and in that regard, fits perfectly with The Raptors on yet another level. Great work!
One of my first thoughts for the desolation marines, was to separate the grenade launcher entirely from the weapons. I was considering to make it a ground 'mortar' style weapon. Marine carries it, drops it on the ground and orients it to the enemy. A second thought process recently, was whether the lower weapon assembly would do well linked together with a bolt rifle as a separate combi weapon. In both cases, the rail and upper missile sections would be slung off the backpack for the more 'indirect fire' look.
Love this conversion, this and the centurion one are my faves
Hi Mr Wargamer, when you attached the gravis helmets looking to the side did you have to trim them at all? It's hard to tell in the video. I want to use one for converting the captain in the company heroes box but it doesn't fit the body quite right. Thanks 👍
Noice, keep it up I'm enjoying watching all your Raptors videos while I paint my own Raptors 5th company force.
I'm in love, amazing work.
Waaaaay better, has a bit of Zaku flair with the green and pinkish light effects and the whole militaristic feel
That's a really cool conversion. For my own I bought all of Bits and Kits stock of First Born missil launcher arms from the Tactical and Demolisher squads and fitted the bits around a shoulder fired launcher. It looks much beter than they previusly did
I quite like the original look of the desolation marines, but I must admit, these look pretty damn cool!

They look incredible
These are amazing and I wish they came in a box like this.
I'm definitely gonna be borrowing how you approached the backpack, though since I'm using the Hearthkyn Warrior Backpack as a more compact Power Pack for my Primaris Marines, I'll have to make some adjustments to make it work.
This kit has to be one of the most kitbashed I've seen.
I love how this is vaguely something the Iron Warriors would use, if they got their hands on the tech
Not the first and not the last but definately the best.
Awesome, I am glad you modified this set
Love them! Excellent work
I really like this conversion. I really wish that GW had made them all with backpack launchers and not weird nerf guns. The first time I saw them, I thought of the Ork Flash Gitz with their crazy guns. I think that's what they're called.
I LOVE it when Space Marines look like soldiers who are the product of war and not players on game day.
I probably add some stabilisers to their legs to handle the recoil, or you know just give the rokkit launcha back to the orks
I'd say, that due to the smaller missile pack looking like every other unguided missile out there, putting them on the back was a mistake. I'd either cut them 4/2 missiles, and the 4 part glue on the unoccupied wrist, if it's a marine with a wrist auspex, or cut them 3/3 and glue both of them on each forearm.
I'd like to see you turn a more decorated unit such as the bladeguards or sternguards into Raptors
i think if you'd make their torsos heavy intercessors the giant black boxes would look more natural. Nice build however. Good Job.
Looks awesome!
