You kinda glossed over it so I want to explain some things about the relationship between Aki and Himeno and why I think it is genuinely one of the best aspects of the show. They both come from a place that makes sense, yet interact in such a tragic way. Himeno is a devil hunter who has lost six partners and has reached an emotional breaking point. She tries to cope by emulating her teacher Kishibe, drinking, smoking, and sleeping around, but would have ultimately quit being a devil hunter until Aki comes along. She not only cannot afford to lose another partner, but recognizes that his revenge mission is complete suicide. Thus she sticks in the job trying to convince him to leave and survive(this is what the letter from her sister was about). She fixates on him so much that ofcourse she falls in love with him and this pushes her even more to try to save him. Sticking to this job for Aki is what ultimately gets her killed saving him. Aki, driven to avenge her just as he was driven to avenge his family is spitting in the face of everything she would have wanted for him and he knows that. Still it is already too late. He has only 2 years left no matter what he does now.

I recommend watching Freiren: Beyond Journey's End. Trust me, you'll enjoy it

The scene where Denji reflects about his lack of emotions concerning the death of Himeno is probably one of the most realistic and ironically “human” scenes I've seen in a shounen anime. Usually, this kind of loss would devastate the protagonist and fuel his need for revenge, but in reality, everyone grieves in their own way. I’ve known lots of people who had to deal with loss, but just couldn’t bring themselves to cry, no matter if it’s about a close relative or a new-found friend. Some move on quicker than others. Emotions can be unpredictable and sometimes you just won’t act like the heartbroken mess we see so often on television. But the fact that Denji understands that he should be feeling something (plus giving Aki some space) proves that he is still human after all.

I lost someone very close to me and I didn’t cry I didn’t even look sad my parents had to remind me at one point that they were gone but I knew I was in so much pain I just was never good at showing it some times I don’t even know that I am and I call myself heartless grief and showing loss are very unique things for everyone there isn’t one for everyone so it is not bad that denji isn’t in loss like most protagonist and spoiler warning He did feel her loss just In his own way

I lost my mom 6 years ago and all I said was ohh and reacted devastated to other people but I still don’t know how I felt about it, I didn’t hate her or love her maybe because we didn’t love with each other much but she visited us it’s kinda of hard to explain since everyone I meet considers their mom like their priority.maybe it’s cause I don’t reflect emotions by grieving I couldn’t imagine myself crying over anybody or maybe I am just crazy

My interpretation of Denji’s reflection is a result of starting to understand the feeling of losing someone he genuinely felt close to. He had no one but pochita in the beginning and despite losing him he didn’t really express anything because although he can never see him again, pochita is literally still a part of him now…Denji’s life was so awful I’m guess at a certain point he just stopped caring or feeling anything and what only kept him going was pochita and just wishing for a less harsh lifestyle…

Kishibe is the personification of "fear the old man in an occupation where men die young".

I swear anime loves to take advantage of that. Literally any old man in an anime is probably the Top 5 strongest in the verse.

Also for when Kishibe gets ambushed by duo at their apartment, he completely thinks at lightning speed. And is able to use the tells in their attacks. Power makes a huge step before throwing the blood spear. When power spams the spears from the floor above, the bottles crinkle before the blood shoots through the ceiling. Denji’s attack is the easiest to counter. Not only was Denji somewhat slow, but Kishibe Denji’s shadow gives him away.

Mob Psycho is about as close as you can get to a show that perfectly executes on its concept! Gorgeous animation, heartfelt characters, and interesting themes. I’d highly recommend it

Kishibe is definitely not someone to be messed with. Even if we weren't told of his reputation, him being an older guy in a line of work like this speaks volumes. Not to mention the fact that he was the only person that we see stand up to Makima willingly and actually live. In fact, Makima doesn't even bat an eye. And despite his methods being slightly unusual, he genuinely does help Power and Denji improve, and even points out the flaws in their plan and why it didn't work.

"Fear the old man in a career where they die young." We literally see that Aki only has two years left to live at most and he's maybe in his 20's. Kishibe is over 50 according to the wiki.

Kishibe's english va killed it man, tbf most of csm dub is amazing imo

I hadn't heard the dub until this reaction series but I'm impressed by it overall.

Denji and Power just make such a strangely cute duo. Especially with how Denji's taken to calling her Powy.

Aki is such a tragic character to me because he might be hellbent on killing the Gun Devil and getting revenge for his family, but here we see why everyone, even himself, was saying that he couldn't do it alone, or maybe do it at all. He pretends to be cold and above it all, but he's genuinely very sensitive at heart, and still cares about his colleagues and other people, which is a very dangerous thing in this line of work. He's doing a job he knows will most likely will get him killed and drive him insane, and yet he does it because he doesn't see any other way to live his life, even though there are plenty.

Kishibe is by far the best character in the series for me. His philosophy as a whole is one of the most interesting parts of the story. Especially when he is compared to someone like Makima.

I'm most interested in yalls takes on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Mob Psycho 100. Boyh have some pretty fun ideas in regards to some symbolism and psychological aspects

Curse was said to be a devil power from the beginning. Just know that any supernatural ability you see a human use in this series, it's tied to a devil contract.

They're also watching JJK which uses Curses. So, some confusion is understandable as both have similar worlds. Creators are even friends from what I've heard.

5:05 Chainsaw man is set in the 90's, so yeah, smoking in the hospital was allowed at the time.

'97 is the exact year if memory serves. A small but interesting detail you can see in the TVs, cars, and such.

There's also some other interesting alternate history worldbuilding details included such as the Soviet Union still existing even when historically it was collapsed by 97. It's not a mistake by the author, but it's usually just mentioned in passing

My god, I’d love to see your commentary on Vinland Saga. It’s the type of show that I think Montana especially would love to dissect in terms of the relationship between characters, and I think Kenny would really appreciate the animation and voice acting. Very emotional story without annoying anime tropes

Mob Psycho and Vinland Saga are each incredible series in their own rights. Either one of them would be a great pick. I also really enjoy Hunter x Hunter, but it's on the longer side.

Vinland Saga would be good, fun fact Vinland Saga has two dubs one is Netflix dub the other is Crunchyroll dub. Personally my favourite is Netflix one

Each thing Kishibe reacted to had a tell he picked up on that was highlighted subtly in the episode. When power threw the spear, she made a hard step with her foot, when she used her blood bottles he hears them crackle as they shrink above him, and when Denji jumps down his shadow is visible to Kishibe.

I love Power and Denji's dynamic in this episode 🤣

Power breaking Denji's brain farther to force it to heal will forever be my favorite things 😂 Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

Mob Psycho 100, assassination classroom, and HunterXHunter would be awesome future series

Denji is basically completely unkillable, as has been seen already thus far. In Power's case, she can recover from nearly any injury as well, though as seen with the fiend Denji killed earlier on with Aki, a decapitation *would* mean permanent death for her.

Kishibe is a lot like Aizawa. Just more unhinged. He has that Elden Ring training setup. Get Gud or keeping dying.

My vote for a new show will always be Mob Psycho. It's the characters and their journeys that make it an all-time favorite of mine- nothing beats the dynamic of a deceiving mentor with his charisma maxed out, and a reserved pure-hearted overpowered disciple. The animation is also next level bonkers and beautiful, and the writing and world are hilarious, unique, fun and so so touching

after solo leveling 1000% recommend dungeon meshi/delicious in dungeon but feel like you guys would like cyberpunk edgerunners and vinland saga too :)

Every attack Power and Denji attempted had a clear audio cue that it was coming. Power planting her foot for the throw, the bottles crinkling as the were emptied, and Denji's feat landing on the ledge, as well as his shadow.

id love to see your frieren reaction because i personally think its diffferent to anything youve watched previously not to mention its amazing animation and characters. its also capable of sparking emotion so well (at least for me) and its really great at building a connection between the watcher and character.

16:48 funnily enough, those sound almost exactly like the noises I was making when I fell on my back during Tae Kwon Do practice, stunning my diaphragm and taking away my ability to breathe for a few minutes.

Side note but this ending theme, Dogland, is my favorite out of all 12 endings

I'm a pretty big fan of No 5, In the Back Room. and I have No 1, Chainsaw Blood, on my phone. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the endings, though.

I hope you are going to check out 'Mob Psycho'. I have only seen some of its clips and they were great.

A super classic for a new anime is Soul Eater. I think you two would love the style and pacing ❤️

with your love for theorizing ahead and then getting answered in the next scene, I would say both Cyberpunk and Mob will have you guessing things and then surprise you. Specially with Mob since the show talks about psychology and emotions a lot. All options are top tier anyway so just enjoy them in any order

I love both Frieren and Mob but I'd like to throw mushoku tensei into that list if possible.

I'd love reaction to a classic anime like Yu Yu Hakusho, Evangelion or Cowboy Bebop but I get it they won't be as popular as a recent anime sadly.

"Beast should know better that to trust anything a hunter says to them" Well Kishibe would get along famously with a certain elf. Good idea about Kishibe seeing the future but I think the rest of the episode disproves this. We know that the two people who have a contract with the future devil have lost half their lifespan or their eyesight (and other senses) and Kishibe is unlikely to have lost half his lifespan considering how old he is (they didn't say remaining lifespan, they said half his lifespan so that's 50+ years for someone as old as Kishibe, it's not completely impossible if he's about to drop dead at any moment but it is unlikely), nor did he lose his eyesight.

Vinland saga would be a great option. Another series you could watch and think both would enjoy a lot is Dungeon Meshi.

Please go with Vinland Saga after that! It's honestly not only one of the best anime, with stunning animation, but also has one of the most inspiring, deep stories. I promise a lot of content and ideas for your analysis!

I think you are making assumptions about Kishibe being contracted with the future devil because of how he fought against Denji and Power. But in terms of anime fights, that is very typical when it comes to reflexes and fighting instincts etc, so it doesnt mean he can see the future. If he could see the future, he would not have stood so close or made new observations about what was happening. It really seemed like he was "surprised" by what they were doing. But his reflexes are much faster and honed. Again, very typical in anime fights.

PLEASE DO VINLAND SAGA AFTER SOLO LEVELING

Definitely recommend checking out Tower of god when you've got a free slot. It's based on a manhwa like solo leveling is.

Vinland saga is on par if not greater than aot. You should definitely watch it!

I would recommend hunter x hunter. Amazing show and you will really enjoy the character. Specially Hisoka, Chrollo, and Meruem are great villains i ever saw. One of the facts that you don't is that this anime is so famous that famous manga artists like Naruto, attack on Titan, and jujutsu kaisen are inspired by them.

Watch Highschool of the dead (H.O.T.D) its only 12 ep and 1 ova(ep13)
