I love how Kiryu brings up the radiation leak as if he hadn't spent over 30 years non-stop drinking, smoking and eating street food.

When he said in the trailer he had cancer i was sure it was because of how much he smokes... Wasn't expecting to be because a radiation leak.

I like the part where Ichiban is in denial where he find out about the cancer. He keep saying that "We should get him to the hospital" while Kiryu is saying "I already done that"

50+ years old, chronic smoker, chronic stress, acute radiation exposure = very high risk of cancer. I think its unnecessary to add nuclear waste plotline, but him working there actually tells a lot. It would be very hard to find a job for him, and its probably an itself a reference to elderly voluenteers working at Fukushima. Kiryu just followed his life of sticking out for others the best he can, not caring for the risks. People like him are welcomed in jobs like that, because they've got nothing to lose, they wont be missed, and theyre at high risk of diseases from old age anyway. Acute radiation exposure + breathing it radioactive dust and isotopes would have massively increased the risk, not to mention that for elderly people the exposure massively increases the risk. I've grown to accept this plot point over time, especially considering they never say that this work is what caused it directly. Man, metastases happen on latest stages, people get bedridden at these point. And Kiryu's still one of the most dangerous people around

An underrated part of that is that it was Ichiban that pissed Kiryu off with the "leash" line. Like holy shit, he just pushed the detonate button real quick.

so he got cancer from one of those substories... damn... Also, hearing Ichiban argue with Kiryu takes me back to 0 when Nishiki argue with Kiryu, trying to end his life so the Tojo did not capture him

Ichiban and Tomizawa reacting just like the fanbase. Honestly It's good thing for Kiryu to reveal he has cancer early in the story, rather than revealing it during the final act.

Okay. This was made perfect. That music when he's in the shower. The whole argument between Ichiban and Kiryu was very much like that of Kiryu and Nishiki back in 0, and to put it in there...These devs DON'T hold back any punches.

kiryu is just japanese workaholic person. ain't nothing gonna stop him from working. i'm sure he'll get chemo and linac stuff and drink some staminan spark and tiger drop the cancer in no time. after that he'll retire with sayama and live a beautiful life until the end. after all he's been through, he at least deserves a happy ending right?

All jokes side. This scene got to me personally. I recently lost my grandma from cancer January 2024 and the timing that Yakuza is one of my favorite series and the newest entry releases a month after she passes. I had to stop playing for a moment cause it hit me.

I still think this is one of the stupidest fucking plot points I've ever seen for this series
