Hi, this app looks great. I'm looking for a way to use photogrammetry and 3D models to estimate the volume of small objects. Do you know if this would be possible with this app or other softwares?

Hey Supersamazing! Thanks for the comment :) Photogrammetry, by nature, doesn't really contain real-world scale, so it means if you use KIRI's photo scanning mode, you'll have to manually set a point-to-point distance on CAD software so that the 3D model can be scaled to the right dimension, then you can do the volume estimation :) But, if you use an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro (doesn't matter which year), in KIRI Engine you will see a LiDAR scan option, if you use the Object Capture feature in LiDAR Scan, you will automatically get the 3D model in real-world scale that's ready for volume estimation. I hope it helps :)

I'm having trouble scanning the bottom of objects, and I have used the AI masking option. Any tips?

Hey yes! Even I myself sometimes can't get AI masking to work in one try. Here are some of my tips: 1. Make sure to take a lot of photos (preferably 100+) and try to cover all sides of the object. Because the photogrammetry can only register feature points via the points on the object itself, not the background, so make sure give the algo a lot of features points to do its job 2. When taking photos, try to include the whole object in the photo. Because the AI is trying to figure out the background of the photos and remove it, giving it the whole object will help it improve the accuracy of recognizing the background

@jackisbuildingkiri2997 Thank you for the reply. I mean more specifically the bottom scan. If I cannot get AI masking to work accurately, does that mean I cannot get the bottom scan to register?

AI masking is designed for the bottom scan, it should work :D And as I said, sometimes if the AI can't recognize the object, the bottom scan might just fail. So I recommend try several more times following my tips @@KamenRamenStudios

what if the object is hollowed? like for example a shoes where i want to show the deep hollowed part of it.. or let's say a sandal where i want to show the hollowed part of it, would i capture this hollow part?

Thanks for the question! Basically, as far as the parts are gonna show in the photos you took, it will be captured in 3D, but if it doesn't even show in the photo, then it mean it can't be seen and so the 3D model will not contain those parts. That's why I always suggest to take a lot of photos, it's never too many for photogrammetry so you can have as much detail as possible in the 3D model

@@jackisbuildingkiri2997 i have one question please.. why Kiri Engine doesn't have an option to start the phone Flash Light?? other apps do support that.. i think if there is flash light it can be good. don't you think?

  • @jackisbuildingkiri2997

@@znbk5652 Actually, believe it or not. Using a phone's flashlight won't necessarily improve the 3D result. On the contrary, it could negatively affect the camera pose calculation and, in turn, make the 3D result worse. And even if the flashlight didn't mess up with the camera post calculation, the white light from the flash would make the colour texture different from its original colour. So using a phone's flashlight during scanning isn't actually a good idea. I would suggest to improve the surrounding lighting in order to improve the 3D result
