We're back at it with another single from the Kirby piano album!
You ever hear a song that's so good that it makes you want to play the game it comes from? This definitely did that for me with Robobot! I was already excited by the trailers and even more enthused when all of Star Dream's themes were posted online, especially this first phase (though rest assured the other two will be on the full album). Compared to other modern Kirby hits like CROWNED or Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit, this is a bit more repetitive and derivative, but it makes up for it by assaulting the earbuds with a punchy, thrilling feeling, which we tried our best to recapture here on piano over the course of a few draft arrangements. While the game's main theme, "The Noble Haltmann" features prominently in addition to other classic leitmotifs like "Kirby's Triumphant Return", the core of the song is still an interesting original melody that highlights the grandeur of the game's massive final battle in the space above Pop Star.
If the game's robotic theme wasn't enough, the final battle being an epic space fight also makes this a wonderful sci-fi song. As a result, you may also be here because it was entered in a Sci-Fi vs. Fantasy song contest as a proud member of Team Sci-Fi!
Hopefully you enjoyed the performance and we can't wait to share the rest of the album with everyone!
~ Xander
Special shoutout to Chloe for crafting the album artwork while Xander played piano and the others worked on quality control.

Thank you! I've actually used this as a warm-up exercise for years just because those really fast runs are good to stretch the fingers, but it was still a bit tricky to actually record in full.

When did Kirby turn into such a dark francise?

Kirby's almost always had a darkness lingering in the shadows. Well, except the original Kirby's Dreamland, Kirby just had to get food back from Dedede :D

Like psycosulu said this has been a trend for the last area and/or boss of Kirby games for quite a while, though newer games like this one and Forgotten Land definitely tend to be a bit more explicit about it with mildly serious sci-fi or dark fantasy plots revealed throughout the game!
