We have owned a Kirby Heritage II which was from the mid to late 1980s and it lasted us for 20+ years and with that life time warranty they offered (don't Know if they still do) we used that a few times to rebuild it. We had to replace the fan at least twice because of my sister who was use it to clean out her car and accidentally sucked up a rock from our driveway. With the Kirby carpet shampoo kit after you done using it and the carpet dries you are supposed to vacuum again to pick up the dry residue.

It is recommend the bristles protrude 1/8" below the rug plate. Also you mentioned about tape wrapped around the pulley in your original video. Clean any contaminants off the pulley so you have clean metal :-) Enjoy!

Thank you for the shout-out Roger! I wonder if Kirby sells a long 5 meter hose to do a full flight of stairs. I bet they do! Would make it easier to clean stairs using the Zippy Brush....:-) Most Kirby fans are waiting for an auto cable rewind for the cleaner - would be a great update to a classic design!

Roger, you mentioned the green brush roll light flickering at times. The flat belt gets stretched and worn pretty quickly. I usually replace the belt annually. Without a tight belt and good brush roll agitation, performance definitely suffers. For the brush roll wear setting (1, 2, or 3), I believe you want to see about 1/4" (so, maybe 6mm?) of bristles protrude beyond the rug plate. I think you understand how to achieve the proper rug nozzle height already (lower till the noise changes, and then 1 additional click).

  • @ibaisaic

I have just replaced the belt and ther is no stalling on the carpet anymore. I have put the brush on setting 2 as it looks a bit worn but not worn enough for setting 1.

I love that mini Dyson I have the same version dc 50 i hardly ever use it tho . I just got a new vacuum the other day it's called a Riccar radiance premium omg compared to my Miele Eco Plus s7 it's so powerful and has a three brush strip brush roll also hard wood floors feel impeccably clean. It has two motors called tandem air the one motor on the bottom is a direct air like the Kirby on carpet mode and the other is called clean air which powers the attachments and cleans hard floors . What a machine !!

  • @ibaisaic

  • @stiksmommy5079

    @stiksmommy5079

    7 жыл бұрын

Alex Vega yes the riccar is impressive but the Kirby is still a touch better as far as a deeper cleaning if you have carpets. I've used both and the riccar is definitely much easier to use as a "daily vac" but the Kirby still has its place. I sincerely doubt riccar will ever branch out to any other market outside the usa. I don't have either riccar or kirby now as I have solid flooring throughout my current home with area rugs here and there. As far as that rainbow is concerned stick to your guns, while it's a good machine there's no reason to lug the water filled behemoth around and spend more time making sure everything perfectly sanitized and dried afterward. There are so many good options these days (no matter where you live) the water thing just isn't necessary.

Alex Vega you've got the riccar so you're in good shape. like I said the rainbow is a good machine but just not real practical. kind of a p.i.t.a. more than anything. I'm no expert on these things anyway, just have been enlisted on several occasions for commercial cleaning and have had the opportunity to play with a lot of different vacuums. and no one in my household can tolerate the feeling of debris underfoot so we're constantly vacuuming ;)

The Kirby is indeed old fashioned looking. It's design is largely the same as it's been since they started making them in the early twentieth century.indusrtial/machine age design. Many products whose manufacturers have stayed with their original designs have found that their products need only running changes but have never needed to completely redesign the product to continue to produce the class leading product on the market. Another example would be the Hobart/KitchenAid stand mixer.I don't know if either make is available in Britain but if it is, it's another product from that period that hasn't been outdone since the 1920s and is built to last for the rest of your life. They're hand made and if dismantled you find that the innards are signed by the person that made them to this day. Best of all they're built every bit as well as a Kirby is in quality and I highly recommend them.

Yes, we have the Kitchen Aid brand in the UK, but most Brits would rather have a classic British made Kenwood Chef.

I used to sell the Kenwood myself when I ran a housewares and fine gift store. Great machines but in the US they cost twice as much as a KitchenAid. Either one is made to be the last mixer that you'll ever need to buy.

But it happens all of the time when Kirby owner buy new carpeting. If you place talcum powder under an area rug and then vacuum the rug you'll find no powder left under it. Many other vacuums have no effect on the powder at all and the Kirby's closest competitor still leaves plenty behind.

The hair dryer is rediculously expensive too! My favorite product from Dyson is the Airblade hand dryer that is made for public restrooms. Great unit and just about the only thing I'd buy from them. I don't like them. James Dyson hit Roger. Can't condone that!

I don't understand why Kirby has a sander considering the suction isn't great with the hose.

I haven't tried the hose yet. That reminds me, I'll put it outside in the sun to make sure it's 100% dry before using it.

Some individuals claim the Kirby has good filtration but I just don't see it. Even with the cloth bags, it isn't sealed and has no filter.

No, probably not the best for allergies, but it seems to really deep clean carpets. Best to use a Kirby once a month and a high filtration vacuum the rest of the time.

The bag 'is' the filter which is renewed each time it's replaced. The Kirby Allergen bags are certified HEPA H11 (pass a maximum of 5% of 0.1 micron particles per liter of air). The airway is very well sealed from rug plate to bag :-)

I've always worried that if the water left standing too long or if the machine isn't cleaned well, that the Rainbow could cause Legionaries Desease. By the way, there's a reason not to fill a windshield fluid container in a car with water. Standing water in a container is sprayed on the windshield over the air intakes for the climate control system. You might as well inject the spores intravenously.

I'm not a fan of Rainbow. Have one in the garage my Husband bought years ago. Too much work. Plus, I don't think it does anything others vacuums can't do. Overpriced piece of junk if you ask me.

Bruce Solomon the reason they say not to put water in your windshield wiper fluid reservoir is becuase it will evaporate because of the heat of the engine. Not because it will cause spore's. The water would evaporate or be used up way before it ever had the chance to grow anything. If water just started growing things by sitting then you better never drink from a plastic water bottle bought from a store because it sits for a while.

There's plenty of documentation supporting my claims. There's also documentation of ww fluids that aren't sufficient at ridding the fluid of contamination as well.
