Refreshing to see a movie where our people can act without calling each other the N-word and more profanity, shoving guns in each other's face, abusing our women and promoting ignorance, vulgarity and criminality. I'm 40-something and a family man with little tolerance for the promotion of street life, prison "culture" and strip club behaviour now.

Watch those stripper movies, prison” culture” movies and other degradation of the African American or Black experience. None of that low life culture or way of being in the world has worked well for us. I already shared this movie with some of my friends and family members to watch, I want them to have the same experience I just had.

I love these period dramas. Reminds me of what our ancestors had to go through and how lucky some of us are now. Sometimes I think I should have been born in another era or perhaps I already lived in one.

I often say to myself, i was born too late, an d i had to be grateful when the brother put paper to cover the hole in his shoe.

Was it just me? Was I the only one to burst out in tears everytime I saw an act of kindness 😢? This was a beautiful story with a beautiful spirit. ❤❤❤❤❤

OMG I could hardly see the movie for the tears... I thank God for placing this inspirational gem of a movie into my life... I was so down and depressed when I came across this movie.... I've been struggling with a drug demon for over 40 years and I felt like throwing in the towel... My fall in life was a big one and I felt it was insurmountable but watching this sparked my will and determination to stick with and trust in the power of His... I Have Been Redeemed and I will say it... I believe in The Power of Prayer and I am not ashamed to ask anyone that reads to send out a Prayer for me.. God Bless You All

It's really a complicated life that we have all been thrown into.......and without any helpful information to survive this journey, Spiritual or otherwise human nature. BTW, this was a great movie.

My two favorite characters were Miss Gracie and Franklin, for the compassion they showed others when they were feeling low and down on their luck. Despite the horrible mistreatment by his father, Franklin had a good heart in understanding the struggle of the seamstresses who worked for his pathetic father. And I'm glad that Lucy got all of her money back from that no good bad guy.

I came by this purely by accident while watching Oberlin, a village rooted in freedom. Another great demonstration of the strength of the black American fight for recognition and relevance during difficult times. A lovely period drama with a heart warming story.

THIS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!!!! I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! It depicts REAL Life and how it was for people in those times and even gives wisdom for the times we live in Now. It warms my heart to think of it. I rented this movie back when they had Blockbuster Video Store in my neighborhood and when I looked at it, I was hooked! I have rented is So Many times. This was a really good movie to watch& the director did a very good job picking out all of the greatest renowned actors as well,dispite all the bad & negativity that took place back in those hardship days..The message towards the end spoke to my spirit and it has encouraged me to continue keeping & fighting the good fight of enduring Courageous Faith in God,while pushing forward and believing in yourself & don't give up when life situations become harder to bear,I really believe that this should get a Grammy Award for this,in my opinion 😊

I watched this for the first time some years ago and it stuck with me! The dignity of a person is so very vital! Without it one feels lower than dirt. I do not see any of the men doing anything to motivate the women. Why don't black men do or say anything to motivate us instead of calling us names? Where are the men who encourage us? Where are the movies about black men saying positive things to us?

I love every minut in this movie, I was moved to tears several times😪 this is not just a movie, this is a feeling I just witnessed🙏 from me to the creator of this movie, huge respect and heartfelt thanks for the experience thanks for the movie and the feeling. And THANKS to the amazing actors in the movie, my own biological family are all dead and by god now, I am the last of my family, but (the time the movie lasted I felt like I had family) a warm feeling blossomed inside me in my lonely heart❤‍🩹 thank you from a deeply sensitive touched heart thanks from a lonely man in a small country called Denmark.❤

Whoa! This movie really rocked my soul! It just ain't right how these folks were treated. I was raised down in Memphis during the 60 's and I got to see this directly. I was lucky and my Daddy told me to be a good man and don't judge nobody by the color of their skin! All I can say to you Black folk is just be cool and that not all of us White folk are Assholes! I was raised by a black Momma, her name was Tele. She made me the man I am now!

Very refreshing movie! I loved the "equality" of it. It showed how everyone suffered during the depression. I don't feel it's a totally accurate depiction of the times, but it was very entertaining and the actors were wonderfully engaging, making me care about the characters and their stories.❤
