I really can’t describe how I feel every time I listen to this song, it takes me somewhere else, not the islands, somewhere inside my soul, sometimes is a happy feeling sometimes sad, sometimes it heals something I didn’t even know was there, after all this years is the safe place where I allow myself to feel, everything. So thank you for this.

im from Indonesia, when i was a child, i like to play in the field around my village, with my friends, we did simple thing like played a kite, collected the stone in the river. by the year, 18 years later, someday in the cleae, evening i sat in that field, alone and hear this song, all my friend is gone, and the memory remain. i ussualy try to find happiness in the great things and big achievement untill that day, i realize that i just need a simple thing to smile.. just like what i do in my childhood.

I remember the family had a road trip to Java and this song was played over and over again. One night, while sitting in front seat I turned my head back looking my mom sleeping in the back seat in a dark place somewhere in southern Java with this song. So serene it was.

I had the pleasure of seeing them last night in Washington DC. This was the third song they played and I immediately started crying. My mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers in 2017. Today, she doesn't know who I am. For the longest time I've associated this song with her. Despite it being somewhat of a romantic song, I think of my mother and struggle to remember what she was like before. It was weird, I was crying partially because I was seeing them live (which I never thought would happen), but also because of what this song means to me. I surely hope it isn't another 10 years before they come back. I don't want to imagine a life without their music - I'm very fortunate to have stumbled across them years ago. And I am even more grateful that they played near me. If any of you have the chance, see them. This was the best concert I have ever been to.

Right now I'm killing myself for money and for what I have no dreams or aspirations just death awaits me or worse I'm just trying to avoid jail and worse.. Over eating because I have huge mental problems and yes therapy will help but it will mellow me so much and put me at peace I won't be able to work because I will be so blissed out I would want to just not move and stay home all day but you can't you need to work to keep on living we are not in that stage of humanity yet where the world has become so abundant and automated that living is now a luxury and only those who want to work can work everyone else can live happy jobless lives and be blissed out for eternity.. this song i think can be interpreted in multiple ways. i interpret it this way which is about a broken relationship. The singer reminisces how he used to have someone he loved, who walked together with him and how they had the greatest time of their lives. Suddenly their relationship ended and he described himself feeling like he was a bearded man(old and sad man who doesn't take care of himself), paddling all the way from an island of joy. He then went through the old places they used to hang together and they still looked the same but the difference is he was now alone, without his soulmate. The hair covering the man's view symbolized how memories of her can't be forgotten. He's still holding to the things they used to share or memories of her. Seeing how sad the man is (maybe they think it's unnecessary), people around him cheered him or maybe criticized him for not being able to move on from her. But, they don't know how beautiful the relationship was and how important the girl was to the singer. He put so much effort in fixing the relationship with her but it failed in the end and she's gone out of reach. It's clear how he misses her so much and desires for her comeback soon. This is purely my interpretation but I don't think this was what the songwriter intended to write. But really, a beautiful song that brings out the emotions.

Hello Winson Chu, Many, many thanks for your interpretation of this wonderful song: you actually helped me a lot in understanding why this song was so moving to me. Your interpretation is as poetic as the song itself: my deep gratitude and congratulations to you! Nevertheless, could I suggest, a slightly different intepretation ? In my view the song speaks about the difficulty in taming the absence of a beloved dead person. If you look at the video-clip you will notice (at 0m10s) that Erlend is looking towards the sky and so does Eirik at 1min44s; and the lights around them remind me the candles people use to put around coffins. Please notice, I am not saying my interpretation is more pertinent that yours: it is just that, I think, we interpreted this masterpiece song according to our past and currents experiences, our personal history, if you wish. And this is what poetry is about: speaking “personally” to each and every one of us. Rest in peace my beloved older bro Giuseppe passed away exactly 9 months ago. Your memory is still so vivid in my mind.

My friend looked at me stranged but didn't say nothing. Then I explained him. I Like that little "Boat Behind" video. That was adorable. Come to Salt Lake City some time SOON you guys! (Kings of Convenience).

was like 2006 or so, i was in a high school, at 5:30am i was dressing up to go there, then it happened i hear this beautiful song at mtv when it ended i tried to see who was the artist and i came late and i couldn't see it. Im from México, in those years the internet was slow, and also in p2p software like ares and so on, you could find, classics, or mainstream songs, but in any case i didn't even know what was the name of the artist. So i spent like a month turning on the tv even before of the hour i've seen it. I never heard this song again. But in my mind, constantly after years, i always tried to remember this tune. But then happens, in 2014-2015 like 9 years from the first time i heard it, i found "missread" from KOC and then some days later i heard again this beautiful song since then, nothing could tear me apart from this band, and this song in special.

I once recommended this breathtakingly beautiful song to someone, only to be told that she would beat me up if she ever had to hear that again. No wonder I soon didn't want that person in my life. On the other hand, it was an old flame who introduced it to me, after years of not talking with each other, and I have been so thankful for that ever since. There is yin and yang in everything!

Hearing this song will always remember me to the most special girl in my life, the most beautiful moment in my life. Sitting in front the window while this song playing, share every moment in our lives, laugh together even if the story isn’t funny, full of love . but…, I’ll never be her man and she’ll never be my girl. Just keep this love deep in my heart. I’ll give her all my every hours, minutes n seconds of my life if I had that chance.
