@@PrintsLeo3D- Yes, it was not that difficult, but just a follow up to your information. The printer I received from the German warehouse has a v2.2 board (as far as I can see, the newest is v2.3) so that might be the reason. My biggest issues with this printer is, that the loading of filament requires 3 hands - one to feed the filament into the tube, one to hold the tube, because it is not fixed and the third to open the lever on the print head. I designed an update (or so I think) to hold both the run out sensor and to fix the tube, so you only need two hands ;-) The other big issue is the vibrations the printer causes. The enclosure has so many uncontrolled resonances that it is incomprehensible. The automatic input shaper calibration does find the correct dominant resonances, but (from running the resonance test manually) the suggested max. accellerations (for KLP1) is 8500 for X and 5200 for Y - compromising at 6000 has made the printer less aggressive, but still fast. Compared to my Anycubic Kobra 2 Pro (which has its own problems, mostly the closed firmware) is faster and has no dominant resonances after calculating and applying the input shaper.

You are correct many printers not giving easy access to klipper. Showing the Qidi printers is wrong as an example, as you have full access there also. Actually both Qidi and kingroon use OEM variants of the Makerbase MKS SRIPR system... However, Kingroon has a big issue with quality controll. For example, on the door everything was mounted from the wrong side (hinges etc). Of course, easy to fix. However, my Qidi-X-Smart 3 and X-Max 3 produce better print quality. I might disassamble the extruder - maybe also a problem here. The headroom for the extruder definitly is too low. The reverse bowden bending radius is to tight. On my KLP1 the top cover was always pressed up by it. There is a raiser for the top part on thingiverse which solves this problem. On the other hand the price is incredible low if you search around a bit. I got my from geekbuyer with an 50€ coupon and only paid 280€ incl. tax and shipping. Still, I only recommend this printer for experienced users.

I always appreciate your thorough takes on these machines and my videos! I would disagree about Qidi being completely hands off with Klipper though. I know you've had your issues with your X Max3, I've had some of my own, but ultimately I really like that printer a lot. That being said the way Qidi implemented 'their' version of Klipperscreen is what I was referring to about outside intervention. They hide the z offset within that screen , and they don't allow you to just update Klipper as you see fit. Of course it's a form of buyer protection, they don't want people haphazardly updating portions of their Klipper setup that could break others. Not a bad user experience by any means, but it's not direct access to Klipper (even though you do have root access). The filament path was only an issue for me from the spool and through the runout sensor. There's no doubt it is pushing itself along the top of the enclosure, but it never raised the lid for me or bound up. I know there's a few version of this printer out in the wild. I think Kingroon did a little better with each revision, this being their best shot at it so far. I really wish this printer lived at around 330-300, finding itself on sale for around 270-300. Prices are prices though, I never try and talk about them though because they be and flow so much, especially when something else hits the market in the same space. Thanks for the view and for your takes. I think it's funny how we have a very similar setup, I just don't have the Smart. I would have loved to get my hands on one to compare it not only to the KLP1 but also see the differences between the XMax3.

Grazie

Great video thanks. I've had my KLP1 since late last year and have printed a lot of items with it. 2 things that i have not been able to tune out yet, circular objects are slightly elongated and i get a lot of ringing on the y axis. X axis is fine. The belt tension seems fine but i tried snugging just slightly. Did a CHEP cube and dimensionally on cube seems ok. Printing gnarly highly textured items and the look fantastic. Not unhappy with it for the money and i fall into the tinkerer category so i'll be completely satisfied when i get print quality completely sorted. AS noted, QC could be better. My 3 flashforge 5m are light years ahead in print quality out of the box. Any thoughts on my print issues?

Cris, happy to hear your (somewhat) enjoying the KLP1. Those issues you have sounds very much like loose belts. Whenever circles aren't quite, we'll, circles lol, then a loose belt is often the culprit. Sounds like you've done some adjusting in that regard already. I would still diagnose around that area. Clean the rods, double and triple check belt tension, make sure the printhead is snug and secure , etc. hopefully you can find the issue sometimes soon, let me know !

Since you've covered the initial steps with Klipper so well, building on that foundation with an in-depth look at accelerations would be incredibly valuable for many viewers, including myself. I appreciate that feedback! That is the sort of response I always hope to get, the actual viewer experience and trajectory. This lets me know where I should focus my time. To be honest, this accel/speed video has been "in production" for the better part of a year. It's not an easy subject to tackle and I want to do it properly. So I have honing my techniques, adding additional calibrations, and trying to make it a more well rounded concept. Then of course I go back and make sure everything is clear, concise, and flows well. That's sort of the reason I was thinking of fast tracking the OrcaSlicer video. Finding the Max Volumetric flow rate is an important step to finding max speeds and accels, and OrcaSlicer is an efficient way to do that. so I want people to have some familiarity with that software, or at least be able to point them to a source where they can get more acquainted with it. I hear you loud and clear though, I'll make it happen.

Colin, it's funny you mention this, I was thinking of doing an Intro to Klipper live stream this week. I was going to set up a new host device (either a pi or an inovato quadra) and then flash Klipper onto that host as well as a printer. Then I would go over all the setup up needed. I was sort of kicking the idea around, thinking it could be helpful for people to follow along and ask questions as we go. I am going to put some ideas down on paper to see if I could get this to work well and I'll let you know. I wish I had an Elegoo to give this a try with but I don't, I would probably be using an Aquila D1 that I have in the box.

Regrettably I don't own a K1, so I wouldn't be able to give any first hand experience, and based on that I really wouldn't be in a position to compare the two printers. There are some features on the K1 I really like seeing (like auto z offset) and I have to imagine it will have a larger user base, as Creality printers are more of a household name than Kingroon. Both of those factors make me interested in the K1, I know there are already a few mods out there to make it even better also. There's a group of users on the Discord who really like their K1, including people who've had a hard time with printers in the past, they've found the setup and ease of the K1 to be great. A lot of the features of both of these printers line up, except in most cases the pricing doesn't. For you though the price being nearly identical makes me want to lean towards the K1. I mean I love the KLP1, it's been a rock solid printer for me, and it's still producing awesome prints and I have really no complaints. The one intangible would be the 'buzz' around it. There are going to be way more 3rd party (aftermarket) mods and parts available for the K1 because there is more demand for them (because Creality will sell more printers), which, in theory, may give the nod to the K1.

@@PrintsLeo3D KLP1 has problems with the extruder, it is prone to overheating and has performed extremely poorly when used with TPU plastic. The KLP1 has an insufficiently rigid body, it has a console table, rollers and pulleys are fixed cantilevered, it makes very nasty sounds at certain speeds, not all fans are controlled. The extruder is of a proprietary design, because of this, nothing can be done with it, only replaced with another one. Creality is trying to make a Klipper for housewives, and although they did not succeed, the direction of development is correct. K1 prints faster and better than KLP1. The essential problem of K1 is ripples. It is solved by replacing the pulleys with 20-toothed ones. Klipper also requires rooting, but in recent firmware versions this has ceased to be a problem.
