Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a 2018 action role-playing video game developed and published by Warhorse Studios and co-published by Deep Silver for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It is set in the medieval Kingdom of Bohemia, an Imperial State of the Holy Roman Empire, with a focus on historically accurate content.[1]
The story takes place during a war in Bohemia in 1403, in the times of King Wenceslaus IV. On the orders of Hungarian king Sigismund, half-brother of Wenceslaus, Cuman mercenaries raid the mining village of Skalitz, a major source of silver. One of the survivors of the resulting massacre is Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Destitute and vengeful, Henry joins the service of Lord Radzig Kobyla, who leads a resistance movement against Sigismund's invasion. As Henry pursues justice for his murdered family, he becomes involved in an effort to restore Bohemia's rightful king and Sigismund's half-brother, Wenceslaus IV, to the throne. The game features branching quest lines, an open world environment, and period-accurate weapons, clothing, combat techniques, and architecture (recreated with the assistance of architects and historians), which encourages immersive gameplay.
The game received generally positive reviews. Critics praised the story, attention to detail, and focus on realism, while criticism was aimed at technical bugs.

    There's a reason this game has that "feel" you talk about at 15:11. This studio put in the work, studied on the actual history. This game takes place in a real place... if you look at the map of the one main city, and compare it to the actual city today... you can see it yourself. The castles, the buildings, the towns and hamlets... all of it was studied to be as "real to the early 1400s" as possible.

    If anyone is wondering why almost every drink being given is a form of alcohol: wine and alcohol during those times were basically drinking water (not really a 100% replacement but still drunk more often) as those tend to be cleaner and safer than the water most people would find back then or are easier to store + maintain in large settlments away from natural reserves. Plus, some can be useful medicinally as well. Pure drinking water was more of a second choice drink than anything.

  • @tevarinvagabond1192

    @tevarinvagabond1192

    Yes, but also alcohol then was almost always watered down...you wouldn't drink it straight like we do today for normal usage. Obviously they would still drink normal alcohol at dinnertime, relaxing, and special occasions too.. but for normal drinking it was water with a small serving of alcohol like ale

    @@tevarinvagabond1192 ah thanks for the extra tidbits and corrections. Yeah most places were built next to rivers, although often times due to how progression in civilization works, those rivers can get overcrowded and polluted, albeit depending on how big the growing settlement is and their culture. Mostly small settlements are lucky to maintain fresh water as larger areas would most likely have contaminated their rivers/water reserves, not entirely to the point of making it undrinkable, but still giving a risk of catching something or better off used for bathing or cooking/brewing. I should've worded the point about pure water better as it's definitely not a rare commodity but more of a second choice drink people in settlements would choose to drink.

    Kingdom Come: Deliverance was a massive breath of fresh air for me. I overlooked the bugs because of how immersive the gameplay was. "What do I want to do today? I think I'll pick some herbs, make a few potions to sell and then go hunting before it gets too dark out." I played it for about 4 months, just messing around role-playing in the world before finishing the main storyline. Here's hoping a sequel is not too far now.

I wish they were better at that The map has a way of feeling very large, like you're traveling long long distances... but then you realize that it's only a couple hours to any town by horse and so the idea that you would travel back and forth for quests (mostly fast traveling) isn't that big of a deal it's just weird for a bit. Once you get past the idea that traveling back and forth doesn't matter, it gets easier to manage quests.

    About 5hrs into this game there is an attack at a small community you investigate with what is essentially the local police and I found two of the thieves in the woods. What happened next blew my mind. The game never told me to do this but I went back and told my commanding officer and he sent me back with some help, a fellow soldier/cop who was fully armored and could fight much better than me. We went back to the thieves, who had never seen me, and my new partner took them both out without breaking a sweat. We went back and the mission was completed. I LOVE when games give me ways to complete quests that are never explicitly told to me. More games need to reward our creativity and problem solving.

    A "catchpole" is a medieval instrument designed to capture and hold people away from the catcher, who was an early form of policeman. It's where the surname "Catchpole" comes from. It's a long staff with a rope noose or metal trap at the end. The object is/was to slip such noose over or around a person's neck and hold them. The metal ones were better because they had sprung 'jaws' which you could push directly into the felons neck and which sprang shut, preventing escape. Some of them had spikes inside to deter struggling. The rope ones, I suspect, were more difficult because you were trying to 'lasso' the person while they could dodge and weave. Vets/animal rescue use a modern equivalent method to capture ferals or suchlike.

    fun fact: the guy that created this game, Dan Vávra was also a guy that worked on the first two Mafia games. He left before they started to develop the third Mafia because their studio was "sold" to Hangar 13 and they actually were shitting at his work and told him what to do. His original idea for the third Mafia was to play as a gangster commiting crimes in the 60-70s and as a policeman thag tries to investigate these crimes. J.F.K was supposed to be somehow involved in this story (his assasination etc.) So he left and made his own studio Warhorse and made this masterpiece.

    This game has the most innovative quest design ever made... Like it gives you so many approaches to do the same thing and people will have so many different reactions to it based on your actions...And dialogue options appear based on what you have done... And also you can improve your skill to persuade or intimidate people... It's so perfectly done and works so well... No other rpg does this so well... Not even Red Dead 2 or Elder Scrolls or Witcher 3....

    No games are too realistic, the developers just wanna make a game where you have to be as careful as in real life in the medieval era. The game just does not grab your hand and guide you. Basically, a masterpiece

    I absolutely love this game, the storytelling, the graphics, the historical accuracy and.. the infamous combat system. At first I hated it, because it's hard on purpose. When you master it you feel pretty good. Spent more than 100h on this game. It's like playing a childhood knight adventure. The game doesnt lead you by the hand. When I left the castle, I just jumped off the little bridge and ran away escaping guards haha I didn't even know you could steal a guard uniform... I hope there are making a sequel. Anyway, thanks for showing it!

    This games fantastic. It takes awhile to get into but once you do your hooked. Unlike other games you’re not some badass sword wielding chick magnet, but some useless peasant son of a blacksmith that doesn’t even know how to hold a sword or even read. Once you spend a few hours training with Bernard you become unstoppable but more than that, you feel like you’ve actually accomplished something, like learning a new combo or how to read. Because you actually have to work for a long time to get there. There are some bugs still but very rarely and most the massive ones have been patched. And the big battles are awesome and you really get in there and fuelled with fury, and the map is gigantic with so many quest to do and places to explore, plus you may even get interested in the real history the games based on. KCD is awesome, an extremely fun and rewarding game you can put way over a hundred hours left and with a couple cool and gold DLCs. I always urge people who haven’t tried it to play it, it’s an awesome game if you give it time, get into it, and train and train with Bernard, I highly recommend it

They taught you how to find solutions to people in your way really well, showed you that you need a healer when your beat down, all kinds of stuff. I really loved this game, though I would've loved to have a character creation "freeplay" mode, even if it was barebones. I honestly never got far in the story, I just started trading, fighting, and just making my way through the kingdom doing sidequests.
