King Presents New Colours To The Irish Guards (1949)

King presents the new Colours to the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. LS. Guardsmen counter marching in quick tempo. LS. Guardsmen presenting arms. LS. The old Colours being trooped. MS. The old Colours being trooped. MS. Back view, Colours being marched off the parade ground past Viscount Harold Alexander. MS. King George VI arrives at saluting base, salutes as 'God Save the King' is played. MS. The King and Viscount Alexander leave saluting base and walk over to inspect troops. MS. New Colours are brought up to the King who presents them to the ensigns. LS. Troops lined up during King's speech - natural sound, in patches. Several long shots of the ceremony for cut-ins during King's speech. MS. Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), Queen Mary, Prince Bernhard of Holland, Queen Juliana of Holland and several other members of the royal family in royal box. LS. Guardsmen lined up. LS.     Interesting. It was a nice surprise to hear "Garry Owen" at the beginning, it reminded me of that wonderful film with Erroll Flynn, "The Died with their Boots On"
