    Reggie Fountain, Jack Brabham and Carol Shelby.. they all wanted to show how good they were, tried everyone else's kit, said "nah".. Needs to be done like this.. then they won every thing in front of them. Beyond brilliant in their times.. Top Doco this.. will watch it again for sure..

    In 2000-2001 my colleague, Les Sabo and I campaigned a 29' single engine Fountain in the APBA P-4 class. The boat was rigged by Art Lilly and Joey Griffin did the supercharged engine. We raced in the last APBA race in Baltimore and then went on to Daytona, key west etc. We raced in Cleveland and placed third in the P-4 class and I will always remember Reggie coming up to Les and I at a party on Saturday night in a local bar and thanking us for racing one of his boats. We were so impressed that he took the time to come up to two novice racers and wished us well. It was just the kind of person he was! Thanks Reggie!! Twenty one years later I still remember that!

    I spent my teenage years around Reggie and worked at fountain with my Dad from 94-96. Right when the first step bottom boats were being introduced. Jim Caldwell designed the first carbon fiber/epoxy laminated Fountain. The boat was Ohio Steel and the boat ran 147.24 MPH. That was REALLY EFFIN fast in 1995. BTW that pier 57 boat was not the first canopy boat. OHIO STEEL was in 1994.

    Privileged beginnings + competitive spirit + being a hustler = legend

  • @peterhaan9068

    @peterhaan9068

    4 жыл бұрын

    The same spirit that drove Reggie also drove his father which provided, as you like to say, his "privileged beginnings." What you seem to mostly want to ignore is the fact that he earned the money in his early years to support his early boat racing whilst also competing in high school sports and did well enough academically to go to college. I would also remind you that he worked his way through college, competed in boat racing and still earned a law degree! He then went out into the world, made a success of his business, raised a family and took care of his employees! This was all made clear in the video. How you missed/chose to ignore all of that has to be intent! I'm guessing the reason has everything to do with your horizons being stunted by the 4 walls of your Mom's basement! You do get points for recognizing a competitive spirit but fail predictably because a successful business is all about hustle! A legend indeed!

It was really fast but dangerous. Prior to my fathers arrival in had already been laminated with carbon fiber and epoxy. BUTTTT they never cured it properly. My Dad pointed it out and they scrapped the entire hull. True story. Circa 1994.
