My wife and I went to Saint Sulpice in October 2023. We were treated to perfomances of both the gallery and choir organs and wonderful singing led by the cantoresse. Daniel Roth played for both the mass and a concert on the gallery instrument. Memorable day for us.

The carvings on the facade are fantastic, cant imagine how long it took to carve all those larger than life figures, Corinthian capitals, columns etc!

Cavaille-Coll was not happy with the massive carvings as they had a negative affect on the sound of the facade pipes.

@@brucetominello7440is case work done independently of the pipe manufacturing or done by someone other than the organ company? How'd they allow the design of the case to interfere when they themselves designed and built it?

@@DrpanProductions The case was built for the organ prior to the work done by C-C and he had to deal with it as he found it. If you have been in the church you would see that the facade pipes are very close to the back of the case carvings so C-C had to work hard to get the same speech and tonal quality from pipes both blocked and not blocked by the case

Though I've seen this organ in many photos and seen it during my only visit to Saint-Sulpice, I'm gazing at it now. Even though this case is gigantic, in a way the case has a cute appearance compared to other huge organ cases around Europe.
