just shows why these 3 play with Crimson. It takes a very special technical drummer to play all the polyrhythms and unusual time signatures in their music. They played several times as a 6 piece. 2 drums, (Pat and Bill) 2 guitares and 2 bases.

Philip Hodkinson I thought that at first! Then I noticed he was looking out at us with upturned corners of his mouth. The Warfield is a historic rock venue going back to the 60s, built in '22. Steve Hackett's concert made the place vibrate with strong bass.

Philip Hodkinson You might appreciate this Robert Fripp story. My good friend did computer graphics for the movie "Titanic". He was at the wrap party. As in all my friend's stories, "There was a pretty girl". She came over to talk to him. She was unnerved. She said she had just met a man she pointed out. My friend told her he was a famous rock guitarist, Robert Fripp. She said he had come over to talk to her. Fripp repeated word for word, both sides of a 3 minute conversation he had watched her have from across the room. She said he freaked her out, and she quickkly ended the conversation and found my friend to talk to. Brilliance wasted on the pretty girl and/or Fripp didn't have much game.

Like many of you fans, I've been hearing about the R. Fripp excentricities for years. Honestly, is it that important?? The guy has his specific ways of working and being. So, what of it? If he didn't exist then none of us would have this music. I own about 30 KC and solo artist CDs. MY musicalal interests would have been much less nourished had it not been for what he did. The gosip may be interesting but is it nourishing? I am grateful for what has been traded-his hard work for my money and appreciation.

351cleavland - I agree with your outlook, and also with Jörmungandr: Mr. Fripp seems far less eccentric to me than he apparently does to others… I’m even related to people more eccentric-seeming! He may be a little exacting, but again: I’ve worked with many artists, across a few media, and in many capacities over the years, and Mr. Fripp’s particularities seem far less pronounced - from what I hear of them - than the particularities of many less talented and less successful artists! He strikes me as good-natured, reflective, and generous - with a very silly sense of humor! He’s toured with musicians by bus most of his life, he certainly understands how to get along. So thanks to both of you for speaking up!! 🙂

As great as Bruford was (is!), anyone who thinks he could do what these three are capable of collectively should think again. Look back to the Thrak era when there were two drummers. I believe RF called it "double band". One of those drummers was Pat Mastelotto, the other...Bill Bruford. The combination on stage was magical. Bruford all wrists and subtlety and Mastelotto all shoulders and mayhem. Outstanding then and it will undoubtedly be even better when I see them in November. Long live King Crimson.

Mark Colman Well, this band recorded Scarcity Of Miracles, without two of the drummers. I'm sure that is a starting point for this incarnation .

For all those of you who dare to make fun of Mr. Fripp, realize he's the boss watching his employees perform a section that they composed themselves and rehearsed a year in advance and he is observing (with his particular "eye") their progress. This video is a filmed rehearsal before they began the tour. Mr. Fripp is a recording machine who sits still and analyzes everything; perfecting, finding glitches, updating - maybe "cyborg-ish", but his musicality and technique do not deserve any criticism whatsoever. He is to be emulated for his approach and work ethic. That is why he is Robert Fripp and you are not. Flame away, I don't care.

Shades of the classic Larks's Tongues line-up with Jamie Muir on percussion. This could be very special indeed.
