King Charles pays touching tribute to Barry Humphries at state memorial
Employment Minister Tony Burke has read out a heartfelt tribute on behalf of King Charles during the state memorial for Barry Humphries.
King Charles described Mr Humphries as a "cultured and erudite man" who could not have been more different from his various stage incarnations.
“No one was safe. Barry Humphries, through his creations, poked and prodded us ... punctured pomposity, surfaced insecurities, but most of all made us laugh at ourselves," the message read.
“This cultured and erudite man, with his love of literature and the visual arts and passion for Weimar cabaret, could not have been more different from his various stage incarnations.
“Like so many, I have been deeply saddened by his passing.
“Life really won’t be the same without him.
“May our gladiolus bloom in celebration of his memory.”

That was a beautifully written tribute. Thank you KC for the lovely words. Barry and his brilliance will be sorely missed, but his brilliant talent will thankfully live on.

It was only the idiot Melbourne Comedy Festival that cancelled him. It will take a long time for them to live that down.
For someone who brought huge laughter to people, this memorial wasn't up to Barry Humphries standard. The chamber orchestra was depressing, and of course Dick had to get the wokem to country in. And the singers were also terrible. Whoever organised this should be banned from organising another one.

Everyone liked Jimmy Savile when he was raising money for charities. Do a bit of research and you'll find that he raised a.phenominal amount. Nobody knew what he was up too behind the scenes.. This is about Barry Humphries. Don't cheapen it.
