King Charles’ Kind Words in First Meeting With Prime Minister Keir Starmer

This was the moment King Charles received Sir Keir Starmer at Buckingham Palace on Friday.
Sir Keir and his wife, Lady Victoria Starmer, were welcomed following Labour’s historic victory in the general election.
Starmer is the King’s first Labour prime minister, and the first leader he has appointed after an election.
Report by Karimah Bangura.

I like it less how someone elected has to come and scrape before the monarch like the latter actually earned their position. I'm inclined to say cut the cord - let the king still pretend to have power while being basically even more useless than he already is. It's long past time that the monarch was completely disconnected from govmt - it's not their place to have anything to do with our system of govmt, we didn't vote for them.

@@mnomadvfx The King formally holds the executive power in the United Kingdom. He merely delegates the exercise of executive authority in his name, to the prime minister and the cabinet. There is no other constitutional mechanism then for the prime minister to relinquish power (as Rishi Sunak did) or to gain power (as Sir Keir Starner did) except through the King. The King in the absence of a codified written constitution, is then the embodiment of the constitution itself in the UK. That is why senior political officers, members of Parliament, judges, and menbers of the armed forces are required by law to swear allegiance to the KIng prior to assuming their offices.

The Cabinet is technically a committee of the Monarch's Privy Council (which is why ministers are appointed to the Privy Council upon nomination). And indeed, the PM is not in that position due to that role/title but as First Lord of the Treasury - basically the head of commission which encompasses the ancient Great Officer of State, the Lord High Treasurer - the keeper of the Monarch's money.

The outgoing PM meets up with the king to resign and the incoming PM meets the king to be offered the job. It doesn't symbolize anything of that sort. The executive power proceeds from the King. This is a constitutional requirement for the new prime minister to be appointed. Between Rishi's resignation and Sir Keir kissing the King's hand, the United Kingdom had no prime minister and the King exercised the executive power personally. Unlike the president of the United States, the British PM has no term of office. He remains PM until he tenders his resignation to the King and the King accepts it and, likewise, he only becomes PM when the King invites him to form a government and he accepts it. There is no "swearing-in" either although. in his official role of First Lord of the Treasury, rather than prime minister per se, the PM is required to take an oath of allegiance to the King and an oath of office in a meeting of the Privy Council. If he is not yet a member of the Privy Council, he must also take the Privy Council oath, but that is not the case of Sir Keir since, as a former lLeader of the Official Opposition, he had already been sworn in before as member of the Privy Council according to tradition. I believe the Privy Council meeting happened two days after the election, when the other ministers who are also required to take the oaths were sworn in and took possession of their Seals of Office, signifying that they entered into office. The specifc appointments of the prime minister as First Lord of the Treasury and of the Chancellor of the Exchequer as Second Lord of the Treasury are confirmed by Letters Patent of the KIng, as is the appointment of the Attorney General and some other officers.

Labour (Keir Rodney Starmer) intend to apply a hefty VAT to private schools, this includes by default special educational needs schools so if you have children like we do who go to a private special needs school because have special needs, then you will be demolished by his tax on it, and will have to remove them and home school them. We have tried this week to call local schools to accept them but they have told us they don’t have the facilities to accept them, so Keir Starmer is totally ignorant of our needs as parents, he thinks he is doing it to the ‘posh’ kids but has no idea he is wrecking special needs kids chances. Crushing.

66 % to be more accurate, if we consider only those who bothered to vote; abstention, which is what you are probably implying, doesn't count. But, by the same metric, 76 % didn't vote for the Tories. That is how the British system works. It is not about getting a majority (i.e., over 50 %) to vote for you, but rather having fewer people not voting for you than the people who did not vote for the other guy.

@@JonCape JUST one in five Brits cast a vote for the new Prime Minister with the lowest turnout in decades, a polling expert has revealed. Scarlett Maguire from JLP polling told The Sun that the country faces an “extraordinary position” where 80 per cent of Brits did not vote for Sir Keir Starmer’s astonishing victory. Labour have secured a stomping landslide with 412 seats in Westminster with the Tories sliding to just 121. But the supermajority, which will effectively give Labour free reign over the Commons, is off the back of just 35 per cent of votes cast. Scarlett told The Sun’s Never Mind The Ballots: “We are in a completely extraordinary position. I think we're at a point where our people, the British public, are turning their backs on the mainstream parties."

###Well Harry and Meghan can collect awards because they moved aways and became independent from "FAKE KINGDOM" of king Charles III. "The Fake Royal Family" who claims lineage to the Jewish ✡️ king David yet they are NOT JEWISH AND THE KING LINE OF ALL JEWS END BEFORE JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN. AND SO THE QUESTION IS WHERE ACTUALLY IS THE ROOT OF THE FAKE KINGDON???? AND THIS FACT CAN BE VERIFIED IN THE HOLY BIBLE. **Royal expert Kinsey Schofield slammed the Sussexes for their obsession with “collecting trophies,” claiming that the public “sees through” ESPN’s decision to honor Harry with the award. “I see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle accepting more trophies for awards that I don’t understand what they’re for,” she told TalkTV.***

Only the people of the UK have the power to vote the monarchy out of existence as a publicly-funded force in church and state. Presently, the government has a lot of more pressing issues to worry about and try to make right for folks.

Haha with that lot at the helm we have no chance. Imagine what it's been like for the last ten or fifteen years, and then imagine it exactly like that but much much worse. More tax, more immigration, less jobs, more crime, more pandering and populism. Marvellous. Can't wait for them to finish it off before most of us with any sense leave for Bulgaria or Portugal. Or frankly anywhere but what was once Great Britain. It's done.

as an Australian who has spent a lot of time in the UK, and has fond ties to it, i think that this is a well met partnership between the new PM and King Charles. the rebuilding of basic decency in politics and committing to serving the public instead of ideological bs,, and just generally getting on with the greater good for the most amount of people seems to be a very easy meeting point for these two. i dearly hope that the austerity years are now on the way out. it's been awful, and i have confidence that both of them can help to turn it around. it will help not just the UK, but all of us as Commonwealth citizens, and many more beyond. in this time of worldwide fracture, no matter our politics, let us all hope that this will be a fruitful and healing union.
