Thank you U.K showing us your traditional and historical coronation ceremony from far-east Asia. Seeing these symbols such as tree of life mural and ornaments with listening to sacred baroquean songs, I feel like time-travelling and even educational. What a beautiful visual treat to international viewers! No country in this world can have this type of ritual as U.K beacuse of modern equality spirit. However connecting your traditional ritual and symbol to collective unconscious of british people is not so bad. we need our roots for unity of community. Symbols and myth are important to human spirit as much as modern value.

Your absolutely spot on. I'm Irish living in UK and what is wonderful about it is, the symbolism, ritual, ceremony, and above all the appeal to God. It brings us to the higher order of things. A coronation is bigger than the individual monarch, it's Christianity and western civilisation on display. Yes the equality spirit as you put it so well is bringing all of this down, because it does not recognise that we are all unique in the eyes of God.

The music is so beautiful. The ceremony is full of splendor. Charles is even wearing a tunic made for his grandfather George VI in 1937. Imagine being directly related to so many British monarchs of the past. It must be awe-inspiring.

It is based on King Solomon's coronation from 3,000 year ago (that's what the song they're singing is about, "Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, anointed Solomon King.")

@@blazednlovinit This is true, but the liturgical structure of the coronation was first instituted in AD 973 for the coronation of King Edgar. So the service you see here is now 1,060 years old this year.

This scene is filled with awe. Charles attended by his equerry, the Archbishop, being divested of his golden robes.

One thing no one anywhere has mentioned was the timing. The last bar of "Zadok the Priest" coincided exactly with the moment the King, having just put on the long, plain white colobium sindonis (wrongly identified in the commentary as being the white shirt worn underneath) symbolising simplicity, donned the golden supertunica (dalmatic), the first of the rich, kingly robes.

Holy smoke such lovely singing by the choir ! GST King, LLT King !

The Age of the New Carolingians dawns over this sacred, sceptr'd Isle 👑 It's a Divine blessing to see it.

It’s a funny old 🌎 but beauty is everywhere. 🙏 No other ceremony on earth comes close to this. Largely made up of Victorian bells and whistle theatre but with core elements from the old pre reformation Latin high church coronation mass translated to the national language. This then dipped in high church Anglicanism creating a melting pot of mystery. On one of the upper levels of the abbey. You can't see them but they are there. All of this music is completely live. The acoustics of Westminster Abbey are incredible.

Who writes your headlines? What a ridiculous one. While King Charles was anointed, the choir sang 'Zadok the priest' which was written by Handel specifically for the anointing of George II. Anything less like a serenade doesn't exist.

Major Jonathan Thompson, royal stuff member, he’s 39 years old.

I've performed this once, and it was one of the most gratifying thing I've ever performed.

The sight lines in this church are terrible and there's two separate rooms to boot. Attended a Sunday service their a few years back and all the action was around a corner. Seems strange for such a historical important church.

Because they put the oil on his chest i believe. Head, hands and heart. So the screens are there for privacy of the King during the most sacred part of the ceremony.

Apart from the modesty aspect, the most important reason for the screen is to allow our Monarchs private time with God. It’s always done this way.

This isn't from the Messiah, it's Handel's Anthem, Zadok the Priest and it was written for the Coronation of George II in 1727 and has been used at this point in the Ceremony ever since.

Zadok the Priest was a coronation anthem long before champions league existed. It is a British anthem that was composed by George Frideric Handel for the coronation of George II in 1727. One of Handel's best-known works, Zadok the Priest has been sung prior to the anointing of the sovereign at the coronation of every British monarch since its composition and has become recognised as a British patriotic anthem.
