@@akk424 No, because the moment you offload a lot of shares, the price crashes. They will never realize the current market value of all their share holdings in cash. But if I own land and estates that have actual utility, from which we derive other resources, then I possess greater leverage over someone that merely has a stake in a software company, unless that person is a multi-multi-billionaire. In Sunak & his wife's case, they are about $800-$900 million USD/GBP, which is not a whole lot higher than what the King is worth. $750 m worth of land and resources > $750 m worth of shares in a software company.

@@userdim I'm not taking away his credit as an entrepreneur. But most are too concerned with getting their next meal than having enough free time, as a result of being essentially financed to exist as a nice idea, to dedicate their time to developing their entrepreneurial spirit. It's far easier to excel at something when the looming threat of losing everything you have as a result of pursuing it is non-existent because you are cushioned by an immense amount of inherited wealth.

There’s no inheritance tax on what the monarch leaves to their successor. If something is left to him by anyone else he’d have to pay.

I think monarch wont do the thing, but the Prime Minister holds more power than the King and is really just a president and a prime minister. The monarchy system is only worth for tourism in my opinion.

Its interesting to see UK as one of the countries that promote democratic principles to still allow a monarchy holding up so much wealth, especially right now when the country is going through a bit of a crunch.

@@martinketchum actually I don’t know if u saw John Oliver’s show on the monarchy but he explains it pretty well. Essentially people don’t pay tickets (which gives revenue) to see people but to see jewelry or palaces etc which only require upkeep. There is no need for a monarchy to exist to continue to make money of those things. For example, there is french architecture and food that people like to see in New Orleans but for that US doesn’t ask France to put people there and give millions for their luxury living.

Most of the democratic countries are having constitutional monarchy. 7 of top 10 democratic countries are having monarchy. Democracy has nothing to do with monarchy.

The most lucrative position in the British Monarchy, including that of Monarch, is the Prince of Wales. The Duchy has vast prime real estate with huge rental potential. The King has held that position for nearly seventy years. Having said that His Majesty's period as head of the Duchy has been exemplary. Through prudent management and investment, he has expanded the asset base many fold and in doing so assisted a huge number of worthwhile causes.

Technically owns England, so it should be quite a bit more than that.

The Guardian did a much more comprehensive six month investigation into his wealth that estimated a net worth north of 1.8 billion pounds. I’m pretty disappointed in the Journal’s lazy reporting on this.

It's amazing to me that even after generations of accumulation, the King of England still isn't worth as much as Elon Musk.

This estimate is far below than one could expected the King’s one resident alone the Buckingham Place in the heart of London definitely worth more than £750 million never mind his other’s fortunes home and abroad.

@@kbram7363 I live in a republican country, and I only see a lot of corruption, the money #stolen, is much greater than the taxes paid to a monarchy, and that there is never a return for society, illicitly enriching politicians and businessmen who care little about their people. Taxes paid to the monarchy have, at the very least, a return on tourism, oxygenating the country's economy. A republican country, it has a lot of work, little leisure, low salaries in the majority, high inflation, precarious health and education, many dysfunctional families, many homeless people addicted and with little social assistance, among others. Want to be a republican? You will bitterly regret it! Just look at all the republican countries and you will see the great disillusionment!
