When giving the date, they didn't say "In the year of our Lord..." like the other proclamations have said. I wonder if that was done intentionally or in error.

I noticed that as well. I think it's probably intentional since he says "long live the King" and not "God save the King."

What an anaemic excuse for a ceremony! Out comes the Chief Herald of Canada wearing a blue academic-style gown-no tabard-and reads, in a barely audible voice, a tepid proclamation in which he cannot even bring himself to say "God save the King!" but only "Long live the King!" As he repeats it in French, the gunners begin to sound their salute, drowning him out. The Royal Anthem is played, but nobody joins in singing it, as all present did in other Commonwealth realms. No troop of guardsmen is present to give three hearty cheers for his Majesty. Faugh! It makes me ashamed to be a Canadian.

Having now viewed many other versions of the ceremony, I feel moved to congratulate our government on having got *one* thing right: namely, to let the ceremony focus on the King, without having local grandees hog the limelight or intruding the traditions of 'First Nations'. For once the Prime Minister stood by in reverential silence, displaying both good manners and good sense.

@言行一致 For me 'intrusive' does not equate to 'derisory'. I respect the aborignal peoples and their heritage. But I do not think their rites should overshadow such an occasion as this, as they seemed to me to do in New Zealand.

No they did not. Canada has two official languages but when the proclamation in English is done the proclamation is considered done by one of the two official languages and thusly takes effect. Therefore the cannons start firing at the end the English proclamation.

@@CameronBW2000 That's not true either. The king is the "Head of the Commonwealth", but the person who heads the organization is determined by the members of the Commonwealth, and at a recent Commonwealth Heads of Government (CHOG) meeting, they voted that following the passing of Elizabeth II, Charles would succeed her. The Head of the Commonwealth, in theory, could be anyone selected by the CHOG. The OP should study some constitutional history before posting nonsense, as should you. There are 36 republics in the Commonwealth, plus 15 Commonwealth "realms". Charles is separately recognized as King of Australia, King of New Zealand, King of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and well as his role as the seperate king of the other Commonwealth Realms. Canada is a Commonwealth realm. Its Constitution legally recognizes that Charles is the "King of Canada". The British crown was "severed" as regards the then British Dominions under the 1931 Statute of Westminster. On December 11, 1931, George V became "King of Canada", separate from his role as king of the UK, its colonies and crown dependencies, and the other then "dominions beyond the seas". Finally, the king "reigns"; he does not "rule" over any of his realms.
